Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Feb 27, 2010 13:57:00 GMT 1, Hi all,
I am soon releasing two limited edition prints and wanna know how many people might be interested in purchasing it before launching any print series.
These will be A2 format (42 x 60 cm) including a 3cm wide white border for signature and ed’ number. The size of the edition is yet to be confirmed (defined by popular interest but will not exceed 50 prints (Digigraphy process on high quality paper). Price will be about 75 euros each (+shipping from France).
I am also considering a Digigraphy print run (edition of 10) on canvas (same size). This is similar to giclee technique. Unfortunately, price would be much higher (200 euros).
Some Screenprints (single color) are considered as well, with various colours available but it would lose the background tinted parchment detail so I guess it would be a later series only if people really prefer the screenprinting process (price to be determined, as I never tested screenprinting).
For people who don’t know about Digigraphy printing, it is a recent printing process patented by Epson, which is High resolution inkjet printing on Art paper. I make all my prints through it and the result looks awesome. They are made only by agreed printers and are made to last 100 years without alteration. More info on www.digigraphie.net
Thanks

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Heavyconsumer on Mar 2, 2010 19:18:46 GMT 1, FWIW Cedric, I wouldn't be upset about that in and of itself. There's a big difference between not buying and disliking.
I like this idea and it did get me to chuckle, but liking it and wanting to invest in buying and framing it to replace something on the wall and see it everyday are very different things. I'm sure there are plenty of lookers who also do like it, but are share my reluctance to buy.
Nice work by the way.

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Mar 2, 2010 21:14:57 GMT 1, Hi guys, I'm not upset, it's more the absence of reactions or comments that makes me a bit sad. It is more than respectable that people don't want to buy it, as there is so much quality art around, far better than mine, and I understand you prefer buying some MBW or Banksy piece (or any artist :-). Ah, if people had to buy every new piece, you would all need Buckingham palace as a place to live in :-) I am quite new here and I just appreciate feedback or reactions in order to progress in my art. If I don't sell, not that bad. Thank you for your feedback mishco and Heavyconsumer, I greatly appreciate it.

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Drymounted on Mar 2, 2010 21:49:30 GMT 1, I love the prints! The motion of it reminds me of a Xiao Xiao video frozen in time. Also the commentary it has on consumerism, capitalism and the daily grind is a nice summation. I'm sure this would have some interest in a smaller edition run, and I'd let the readers of drymounted know about it for sure
Cheers and keep up the great work!

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Mar 2, 2010 22:53:57 GMT 1, Well, thanks, do you think 50 is that big for a print run ? From what I usually see, print runs are often between 50 - 75 or even far more for successful artists (ok, I'm not one lol) ?

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 13, 2010 17:39:58 GMT 1, Bigger edition would change nothing. It is the printing tech which is costy. I have no reason to dump my art prints just for selling them. People probably imagine that printing costs a few euros and that I would make 70 euros in my pocket here... I would not. Printing cost (including shipping to my home so that I can sign and number it) is very close to 50%. If I wanted to launch a cheaper series, I would have to go offset on cheap paper. Then, yeah I could propose a 100 series sold at, say 20 or 30 euros. But it would definitely not be the same quality... IF people asked for such a series, I could do it though... But I doubt 50 people will be interested.
It is not a question of price. If people love and want a print they simply buy it. if they don't they just pass. You say that because I am unknown artist. People do not seem to say 350 or 500 or even 1500 quids is expensive for a Fairey or Banksy prints which were made in the 400+ series eh... Price is just a matter of perception.

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by rosstierney on Jul 13, 2010 18:11:03 GMT 1, The price is based on the method of printing. The method of printing is based on the background tinted parchment detail. If you scrapped the background tinted parchment detail, you could have the image printed much cheaper. I didn't even notice the background tinted parchment detail until I re-read your first post. I don't think it adds much, if anything at all, to the image. It reminds me of the perspex signs that hang above fire exits. Saying that, I think the image would work much better on perspex. You can't use Banksy and Fairey in your argument either, they have an established market.

dude... do you even think about how much art Banksy made honing his skills, before the move to stencils and screen prints came ? and even then he was pretty much unknown..... and as for shep, shep pretty much takes it to a different level in terms of brand building
Is there anywhere we can see your past work ? maybe events you have taken part in ?

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 13, 2010 19:05:30 GMT 1, I didnot mean to compare myself to banksy or shep. What i meant is that for example if you have two similar works people will choose the most trendy artist despite the quality of the work (for ex mbw spray cans versus gagnon's). I am not a street artist so little chance i get famous. Regarding my past events i have some. In Usa and france (galleries). Which does not mean much anyway. Though the gallery price for my prints were into the 200 300 quids range. sold only a few of course. Exhibits are on my blog feel free to visit :-)

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 13, 2010 19:37:14 GMT 1, Shep is certainly a big influence i would be a liar not to admit it. We all have influences. I still do not understand why people always have to be agressive here when an artist proposes to sell his prints. If you dont like what i do just ignore it. Ps : gimme a break with ripoffs. Shep literrally stole art in the past or took inspiration from socialist posters or constructivism. Banksy fully reappropriates irving penn photos. I am convinced that most people dont even know he took recent ones from irving penn.. My art style takes things from several influences from wzrhol to shep. My originality, i dare to hope, that my art is twisted around financial subject. It probably does not speak to most people here for sure who are mainly into graffiti/street/stencil/low brow art.

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 13, 2010 19:42:33 GMT 1, Oil is just not suitable for all ideas as a medium. Oil requires canvas, and requires much more time and space for storage. I have a full time job and 2 kids so digital art is easier. It s more a question of availability.

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 13, 2010 21:14:34 GMT 1, You might be right sky. Ross i had not read your post and i certainly dont take it as an agression. On the contrary its valuable comment and perspex is a good idea. The parchment texture may had nothing for sure. The real print looked good with it anyway but yeah maybe a single color would do as well. Like i said i have nothing against critics. But i dont like sarcasm or rants because it is out of respect for the work done. I may be too naive. (and I had a bad day at work so I probably have weak nerves this evening :-)

I agree 100%. I like the image, but the price for a giclee is a little steep. A 1 color screenprint will look just as nice for a fraction of the price. Nice work!

Cedric Mnich - New Prints - Pre-order, by Cedric Mnich on Jul 14, 2010 18:06:09 GMT 1, I never worked with any screenprinter because they are scarce here in France. I have a UK contact given by to me by my friend Pahnl who might be worth the try. I could probably make a small series of 10 prints this way. Thanks for the suggestion guys. I will enquire about this. If any people are interested in a screenprint at a cheaper price (no idea about the final price but I guess between 30 and 50 GBP ?) please let me know on that thread.
