Why no prices / no pix?, by linter on Apr 20, 2012 15:03:14 GMT 1, Why do so many people post things for sale here with no prices and no pix? I just find it so ... irritating. Am I the only one?
Pix should be a no brainer. Got something to sell? Post a g.d. picture! Don't make me PM for it. What's up with that?
As to price -- I guess people are holding private mini-auctions, hoping for a greater fool to offer a greater price than they could ever have imagined, allowing them to retire to the countryside once and for all!!!! What I find really amusing is when someone with like 2000 posts to his name says, gee I have no idea what this is worth, make an offer. Yeah, right.
Lots of forums I belong to with buy-n-sell sections won't allow for-sales that don't have prices stated. And I sure do like that a bunch better than all this coy-coy whisper whisper stuff.
I'm a newcomer around here, which is maybe why I find the no-pix, no-prices business so unpleasant; maybe with time, I'll come around. Heck, maybe if I ever have something to sell here, I'll prefer it this way. But for now, ugh.
Anyone with me?
Or maybe there's a logic to it that I'm simply unaware of. If so, feel free to educate me!

Why no prices / no pix?, by Happy Shopper on Apr 20, 2012 15:07:46 GMT 1, Certainly pictures help to sell a piece. Even when it's a print everyone knows well.
Prices, well, it can be tricky to judge price sometimes on items with little sales history... although 99% of the time I think you're right about people thinking they're holding mini auctions.

Why no prices / no pix?, by exiter on Apr 20, 2012 15:43:40 GMT 1, Pictures certianly help, in my case, to sell an item. I'm more apt to buy it... it's a visual thing. As with prices. I skip most sale threads without them for the most part. UNLESS, I know the piece and I really want it then I'll message them for a price they want for it or I have already researched the piece and know what might be a going rate for it at the time... I'm not at all against silent auctions. Just state it as so... IMHO

Tend to agree with everything
2000 posts and no idea of value, damn sure they have damn good idea what they wouldn't sell for!
A cynic might say some sellers never put prices up in the hope a new collector will come along, not be up to speed with recent prices, and offer a higher price

Why no prices / no pix?, by tsteve on Apr 20, 2012 20:08:27 GMT 1, Anything higher-end offered for sale here is done without pics because they're flipping pieces acquired recently, usually from source.
Do you really think that is true. I am in full agreement with the OP, particularly the picture idea. I have posted in many pictureless sales threads, asking for pictures to be posted. How are you supposed to even know if you are interested in a [fill-in-the-blank] original, if you have absolutely no idea of what it looks like? Yes, I know you can PM the seller, but I think that such sellers are selling themselves short [pun left in] by failing to put the sales item right in people's faces on this board.
Maybe five or six out of ten people will PM for pictures, but there might be one in the other group, that would have bought the piece, if they had actually seen it.
Price can be another thing. For multiple prints, between expressobeans and elsewhere, a fairly accurate price history of a particular item can be ascertained. For original pieces, it can be a little tricky. As a seller, you know that once you post a price, you have set the ceiling, and people will try to work downward from there. A number too high will chase everyone off, but if you set one too low, and the item is bought immediately by another member, it will leave you with the nagging feeling that you lost out on some funds.
The use of "offers above $XXX.00" is probably the best solution. It sets a ceiling, but high enough that the seller would be happy to let it go for that price, and it gives the buyers at least some idea of what the seller wants for the piece. My $0.02 or the equivalent in pence.

Why no prices / no pix?, by AFR1KA on Apr 20, 2012 20:18:10 GMT 1, I know a few sellers that just don't want images put on a public forum of there higher price pieces. Don't see the issues with saying the artist name and pm for price on some pieces.

Why no prices / no pix?, by Baby Dave on Apr 20, 2012 20:29:26 GMT 1, Im guilty of not posting pics in my recent sales thread. The main reason was that I was too lazy to take pics of everything and post them all up. I personally would want to post as many pictures as possible in order to show the quality and condition of the piece. If someone were to ask for pics then I would take a fair few pics and post them on my thread and PM the pics. I can understand why people want pics. I was just being naive in thinking everyone would know the images and would only want condition photos.
I totally agree that pics do help the sale.

Why no prices / no pix?, by maadbeats on Apr 21, 2012 15:32:17 GMT 1, i honestly dont care what other people do. IMO to get a sale made its best to post pictures. At least that is what I have experienced in my 10 years of selling through forums
also, by posting the pictures it saves me time later when a bunch of people that cant afford the piece im offering bug me to pm them a picture

Why no prices / no pix?, by Ottomatik on Apr 22, 2012 16:45:37 GMT 1, Here is how you upload photos from an apple hand held device. 1.-Download the photobucket app. It is a blue square with a white line camera image inside the blue box.
2.-once downloaded. The home screen has the menu bar at the bottom. Find stuff. My Albums. Upload Media. And Settings.
3.-select upload media. Your 2 choices will be...Choose existing or Use Camera. (I always have the image in my iPhotos, because it takes some time to load if you choose to 'use camera.'
4.-once your image is loaded. Click 'my albums.' select photo the photo you just loaded. On the bottom menu bar there will be a white circle with an 'i' inside. Press this. The URL link codes will appear. Tap the bottom one that is 'IMG.' It instantly copies the URL! All you have to do at this point is paste the URL.
Hope that helps! (if it works for you, I only ask for a +1 respect point, please:)
