Graffiti artists win awards in Netherlands, by Deleted on Dec 13, 2012 8:59:58 GMT 1, Boniface Mwangi and the Spray Uzi team are in Netherlands to receive Prince Claus Fund award. He won the award for doing plenty of arty-activist stuff, like photo exhbition, graffiti, etc. and want to change thing through art/artivist. You can see the masterpiece done in Feb 2012 in Nairobi here - flic.kr/p/dfLAPC
This was the first ever graffiti done in Nairobi... this guy (and the team behind it) risked his life to do this graffiti insulting MPs !!
Definitely the graffiti of 2012 for me !!! The story was in all international media (CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, etc.)...

Graffiti artists win awards in Netherlands, by Deleted on Dec 28, 2012 11:44:57 GMT 1, I know this forum has lot of members and I am sure that some of you have connection (or even work) with the media industry or running popular blog (Graffiti Art magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Very Nearly Almost Magazine, The Street Art Blog, StreetArtNews, etc.)
Please read this below and give this guy some international media coverage (I know he is not backed by Banksy, well he should) in your next issue/next blogpost
Now, the big question, why not a single blog/mag about graffiti has mentioned this story ?? C'mn, a graffiti artist nominated "People of the year" by Global Post (it happens once every 200 years, no ?) and nobody speak about this !!
Anyway, if you like the spirit behind this, please share and reshare.
Also, note that the artist has been released from prison last week on cash bail and judgment shall be on 7th of January. He may end up with a 3 to 7 years sentence (politicians want him down, let's hope judiciary system will keep its integrity). I shall keep you up to date with sentence.

Boniface Mwangi was released on cash bail hours after his arrestation... He was told last week that there is no need to go to court as cops dropped the charges. Masks, spray cans, cameras have be returned to owners...
Boniface is organizing an street protestation tomorrow with a thematic "our MP's funeral" so we shall expect lot of coffins and vultures spraypaint arts.
And yesterday, he had a surprise visit in his studio ? Guess who ? Eric Schmidt, the chairman of Google. You can see pictures here, Eric Schmidt with Boniface Mwangi and street artist Bankslave (the one holding the cans) !!
No, I wonder, will street-art magazines speak about Boniface... Remember Choe story with FB, all mags jumped on the story. A perverse painting a wall in kiddie studio and all the street art rapporteurs were in joy !!
