The Art Police, by Stoko on Nov 12, 2013 20:35:02 GMT 1, All we have in the living room now is a micallef, 'liberty' and some burger man and pete fowlers that she bought.
Slowly but surely everything seems to be creeping up into my studio. How can this be? Is there a poltergeist afoot? Is it tiny little art pixies up to their japes? Oh, those scamps.

The Art Police, by Deleted on Nov 12, 2013 21:47:55 GMT 1, I was thinking of hanging some Jonathan Yeo wallpaper in our room and seeing what happens. I reckon I could get the existing stripped and that re-hung within the time it would take her to get to Bluewater 'to get a few bits' and back....
Given however that I have no bollocks whatsoever.....this has not happened.
Wanted Borf's 'we're fucking serious' for the hall......

( its okish -degree of okish measured by financial outlay ) 3. Where are you planning on hanging that (not keen but now its framed hang it out of sight) 3. Rolling of eyes and head shaking-self explanatory

The Art Police, by .dappy on Nov 13, 2013 0:11:54 GMT 1, I have squeezed some C215 OGs in the dining room together with my invaders. she just does not get invader at all. I have even manged to get a couple of Bast into the main living room - she smiles at them and then at me - you know that smile .
I do have a Polly Morgan Bad Breath - the one of the dead chick on a toothbrush in the downstairs toilet - 'when is that going?' is said about once a month, but she does like showing her friends 'that revolting thing!' ... she doth protest too much m'lord me thinks
tbh - I don't tell her the value of my art as she would prob have a hissy fit. not that I even buy much at 'secondary prices'.
Its odd - the one she will definitely not have up on the wall is my wonderful Eelus Icarus AP - 'Its Grim' and 'Just No!' ... I have even thought about selling the piece ...
It's a "No!"

I would have thought the Eelus was fairly girlfriend friendly, but mine hated it too and I eventually sold it.

The Art Police, by sin on Nov 13, 2013 2:56:26 GMT 1, luckily my wife in training and I both love art and there have been almost zero restrictions. She even broke down and let me turn our dining room into a gallery. She would prefer I didn't hang my Ekundao in the living room, but other than that no complaints. Its special to me, cause it looks a lot like my dad so its in the hallway outside my bedroom.

The Art Police, by whl10 on Nov 13, 2013 3:30:23 GMT 1, maybe we can swap wives rather than prints..? i have been trying to get clearance to buy a sub-rosa since we got engaged. she doesnt like any of the same faile images as i do which is a shame but i am starting to wear her down i think. i just used the "theyre not kissing the meraid is giving her oxygen" line from this thread. i had been stuck on trying to use the logic that they cant be lesbians because a mermaid doesnt have a va***a and that was getting me nowhere. she wont let me have any of the dface'd lichenstein prints either. im not allowed banksy soley on price reasons which is fair as we are a young couple with a child. wish she had given in before the kid tho!
on the other hand, i see someone cant hang an icarus from eelus. i was ready to trade/sell that as i dont much care for it anymore and she demanded it go on the wall! luckily for me she loves conor harrington's style-- just wish i could afford more! she also has an affinity for keyes just as i am tiring of some of his work. we will be putting up exodus sooner or later though as we both love that piece.

The Art Police, by pcant on Nov 13, 2013 3:47:58 GMT 1, Apparently the only benefit to being a pathetic single loser is I can hang what I want where I want. Hasn't stopped me from having more art than wall space, but I don't have to clear anything with anyone. I'm going to die sad and alone, but my walls will be awesome.

The Art Police, by smokey on Dec 25, 2014 6:51:05 GMT 1, My normally gives me an "it's ok", which is the equivalent of the blank stares I used to get when talking record collecting to her. She rarely says no to anything although most are relegated to the stairway walls. Del Naja is the only one that keeps getting a no. Gonna have to find a print bad cheap to get that in the door. For the most part she's fine w/ whatever. She's a drama teacher & a big supporter of the arts as well so even though our tastes don't always mesh, it still works out.

The Art Police, by Schrödinger's Chat on Dec 25, 2014 10:41:15 GMT 1, I have to say fair play to my other half as she let me have this in our lounge for ages:
And still tolerates this piece:
But much prefers my Josh Keyes and Eternal Reflection.
Agree with the 'it's okay' read 'i don't like it' and white lies about the cost of prints.

The Art Police, by soulseeker on Dec 25, 2014 21:19:59 GMT 1, I wonder if there are any relationships where the lady buys all the art and their poor suffering partner has to try and police it. I'd love to know... So excited to make my fiancé sit and read this thread when she gets home Wonder no more!
There's plenty of us females that collect Urban art out there - I guess we're just not as prolific on this forum. My partner thinks everything I've collected over the years from Hush to Stik is all utter s**te and worth about 50p a print; unless it's Hieronymus Bosh, Van Gogh or Kandinsky (all a tad out of my price range I'm afraid ), he turns his nose up saying he wouldn't wipe his arse on any of it. Having said that, he's been known to glance briefly at the odd Handiedan and the like and comment 'nice tits on tha'. As we don't live together, it's my money and I don't like his heavy rock music anyway, I suppose it's all a level playing field.
Guess if you're a live-together couple problems can occur owing to 3 major issues:1) differing taste in art/house decoration; 2) amount one partner is spending on art that pisses off the other (they will find that cc bill you think you've hidden at the back of the sock drawer eventually!); 3) the degree to which the art piece offends/threatens/unhinges ( ) the partner. Oh, plus the fact for the crazed collectors among us it consumes our lives to the point of obsession and we sort of forget others just don't 'get it'.

The Art Police, by dani3orange on Dec 25, 2014 22:29:06 GMT 1, I wonder if there are any relationships where the lady buys all the art and their poor suffering partner has to try and police it.
That's me! Although I'm lucky as he likes most of my art choices apart from a couple of pieces. The only thing I get in trouble about is the fact that we can't afford the art I keep buying
