3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by Feral Things on Feb 5, 2014 21:31:10 GMT 1, Who would your top artists be to prints made following up the show. I think Zepha and Sowat's styles would lend themselves very well to screen printing. There's lots of artists in there that I love but the texture and layering is an important part of their work and that would be easily lost in a print.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by graffuturism on Feb 9, 2014 20:04:55 GMT 1, PDF or link to but images won't be finished for a bit it's going to take a small miracle cataloging everything. I would guess the week of the show well have it. Emailing Maya will get you on the list to receive the link before it's open to the public.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by svenman on Feb 13, 2014 13:34:03 GMT 1, huge props poesia for putting this show together. i wish you the very best of luck!!
the wider than a postcard show was a great show to work on. i totally underestimated the hang time in the gallery - thought i would be a simple task hanging 450 artworks as the majority were to be tacked to the wall with museum putty... i ended up doing 3 18 hour days on the bash and then was still hanging and labeling half an hour into the opening on the fourth day!
this show is a HUGE undertaking and by the looks of the response on here, people are appreciating that.
personally, i can't wait to see how it comes together. as someone mentioned above the aesthetic for hanging a show such as this is important.
good luck my friend!! i don't envy the task of cataloging and putting the pdf together!!!

Haha yes believe me I am looking forward to it but also dreading the week of hanging, I will also definetly not underestimate the time for hanging now that you have made that comment. I was thinking that hanging should be fairly easy, building a narrative with so much art and trying to establish some sort of progression with the artwork is what I have been thinking about, I totally forgot it actually takes time to hang the work haha. Wow man I might need to rethink this thing haha regardless your wider than a postcard show was amazing and shows me its possible, if we can be half as successful as that show Ill be happy.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by Feral Things on Feb 20, 2014 17:16:01 GMT 1, Very interesting essay, graffuturism. Thanks for sharing. I think art institutions have a similar attitude and relationship to urban art as they did to other art movements at similar points in their evolution. During much of their working careers the likes of Monet and Munch were equally shunned by museums and Iโm not sure that this is necessary a bad things. The size and nature of big art institutions seems to make them inherently conservative and Iโm not sure that this conservatism is a particularly positive influence on an evolving art form like urban art. I think MOCAโs buffing of Bluโs piece a couple of years ago is a good example of that and the danger is that artists inhibit themselves to unconsciously please these powerful and influential institutions. I personally think that the retrospective shows are what the big art institutions do best. Although the interpretation text in the exhibitions could often be a little more lucid and clear, I generally find them more demystifying rather than mystifying. I think the more important thing for art institutions to be doing in relation to urban art at this point is acquiring the significant works by the more important urban artists while they are still relatively affordable and to then curate shows, which place the work in context, once the movement is more fully formed. I think art institutions are only a part of the whole art infrastructure and, although there are some exciting, dynamic art institutions, there are plenty of galleries to fill the void. Although urban art is now embraced by the general public I think this is far more to do with the art becoming more socially acceptable (i.e. street art emerging out of graffiti) rather than the general publicโs attitudes changing significantly. Although there was a general outcry when the Banksy jubilee piece was removed from the street, there was no corresponding reaction when, for example, Ether and Utah were sent to prison. Whatever the reason may be though, urban art is, as you say, far more relevant and engaging for most of us than lots of other contemporary art and I agree that this is probably part of the reason why art institutions havenโt embraced urban art particularly warmly. Although I donโt think this is a problem at this point in time, I agree that urban art is what is relevant to lots of people and that if in the future art institutions donโt embrace the art form then they themselves will become less relevant as a result.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by graffuturism on Feb 21, 2014 8:59:06 GMT 1, Thanks for taking the time to read it Feral Things it took us a fair amount of time to put it together and it might not be a great read for your average person but we feel its important to provide some real dialogue along with these shows, instead of just feeding people art and dealing money. We hope people are actually able to get some insight into why and what we are trying to say.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by graffuturism on Feb 21, 2014 9:04:36 GMT 1, For anyone that has contacted the gallery for presales or interesting in buying work. Here is how it will happen as there has been a great amount of emails already. Anyone that has already emailed will get a presale PDF link Monday. That is our goal to put in a PDF all the art and prices for the artists that were ahead of schedule which is about 40% of the work. Because it is alot of work and the gallery is building a Shopify link for the whole show that will be made public the day of the show. We will release that link also to the same people and in here when it goes live. We wanted to be fair as many inquiries are about similar artists. Anyone want to be sent the link you can message me here If you havnt emailed the gallery yet. If you emailed the gallery you should be fine. Now back to some pictures.

3rd installment "A Major Minority" Mirus Gallery, by Gard on Feb 24, 2014 19:55:50 GMT 1, Looking forward to see what Zepha is doing. Got a huge painting by him last week, unfortunately it was damaged badly so I had to send it back. But when I looked past the damaged part I saw how beautiful his work is, so I got another one.
