What else do you collect?, by Deleted on May 25, 2014 17:21:48 GMT 1, Not sure it counts, but I have kept most of my ticket stubs, since 1998. Looking through them brings great memories. I can't believe I have been lucky enough to see some of the things I have.

What else do you collect?, by Wearology on May 25, 2014 17:35:16 GMT 1, Every time I visit a new state or Country for work I bring back a magnet for my kid. I started the collection when she was a baby and now she is 16. When she was little she thought it was cool and now that she is a teenager I guess I am really just collecting them for myself out of habit at this point. Never thought I would become the uncool dorky dad with the strange art on the walls.

I can't believe I have been lucky enough to see some of the things I have. It counts! A mate of mine collects ticket stubs and he's framed then in his downstairs loo.
Whilst having a crap in the crapper it makes great reading and recollecting the times I spent with him at some of those gigs. So I'm with you on the nostalgia angle Slammer.
Also loving the decoys, might have to blag a couple of them for the northerly paddocks.

What else do you collect?, by Chrisp on May 25, 2014 20:46:54 GMT 1, Single Malt Whiskies (drink more than I "Collect") and Japanese swords. Also managed to keep one of every iphone version. Been looking into collecting Japanese swords, missus is not too keen on the idea though how many do you own and can you share some pictures?

What else do you collect?, by gords on May 25, 2014 21:09:34 GMT 1, Home and away FC Barecelona footie socks...don't even follow the team but each year attend a conference and bring back a couple of pairs. Interesting how they've evolved - now come with integrated support which is handy at my age. Also collect moths...hundreds of them...munching through my socks. A right plague this year.

What else do you collect?, by Black Apple Art on May 25, 2014 21:41:10 GMT 1, Single Malt Whiskies (drink more than I "Collect") and Japanese swords. Also managed to keep one of every iphone version. Been looking into collecting Japanese swords, missus is not too keen on the idea though how many do you own and can you share some pictures? While it's an amazing world of history and craftsmanship that still can not be fully understood, I can only advise to stay away as it will suck you in and never let go.... a little like another type of collecting we all know about. I was luckily able to pull away after a 3-4 years of collecting but to this day there is something thrilling about holding a 500+ year old blade in your hands and be able to trace it back to it's history right down to the family who made it and wars/battles it was in.
If you do decide to jump I would highly recommend joining the Nihonto board and also check around Ricecracker as well. Lot of good people on the forum but just like here, good to do a little homework first and learn the basics and lingo. I'd be happy to PM you some pics of what I have but after a little surfing those links you will definitely get your fill of sword porn. I try to stay away from those forums now so they don't suck me back in
Good luck!

I'll tell you why: One of my best friends works in his father's bar in lets say a crappy crappy part of town, One day he told me about one morning, around half 11 there was loads of shouting outside, went outside and 2 scumbags were taking lumps out of each other with Samurai swords (fake I imagine) point is as cool as they look and they are realy cool (also the whole craftsmanship and history so embedded in each piece )I wouldn't keep them in my house.

What else do you collect?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on May 26, 2014 5:00:16 GMT 1, This is a great book mate, it is huge!! We have one in the office but wouldn't mind my own copy. www.arcspace.com/bookcase/the-phaidon-atlas-of-contemporary-world-architecture/I have one swiss watch and can see how people get into it (i am trying not too!!)I love old modernist architecture, got out bidded on a nice house 2 years ago, i was gutted but the wife rightly stopped me. Will have my man cave finished soon in our new place,so along with art also looking to buy old modernist drawings and a nice old wine rack and get a collection going Ah sweet hadn't come across this one, thanks man. Eileen Gray, Reitveld, murcutt and lewerentz my favourites at the moment. When travelling, in a gallery in Kuala Lumpur I seen a hand drawn section by tadao ando. Was 6k BTW but unbelievable, completely blew me away. No worries and if you ever buy any sketches show us on here, some architects are highly collectible like Frank Gehry, they would be expensive also. I have been looking for plans/sketches for Palm Springs modernist houses not by anyone famous just because they are old and hopefully find something cheap on Ebay. Here are two great sites for houses and other architecture : www.archdaily.com/ www.thecoolhunter.com.au/architecture

Black Apple Art - I'm fascinated by your sword collection, very cool! What's a beer growler? i hope something's been lost in translation! it's a glass jug that holds around 5 pints of beer, sold mostly at micro-breweries. the growler is filled straight from the tap and will last around 7-10 days (sealed and refrigerated). also, most breweries will give a discount on refill's if you bring back your clean growler.
