BNE part 234, by randomname on Jul 21, 2014 18:46:58 GMT 1, When I was 21, I went to Mardi Gras with some friends. After getting a lap dance from a lovely lady of questionable morals and stumbling from gutter to gutter filled with piss and puke, I came across a young entrepreneur with a table set up for three card monte.
I'd seen it on TV before, but never up close and personal. I watched intently as he shuffled the cards across the table and thought I picked up on a tell. The card I was following (the queen of hearts) had a bent corner. The person with his money on the table failed to pick up on this and lost.
Being the genius that I am, I put $20 on the table for a sure thing. I watched him shuffle the cards and sure enough, there was one card on the table with a bent corner. Surely it was the queen of hearts. But magically, no it was the six of clubs.
I didn't get mad. All I could do is laugh. I learned a valuable lesson for the bargain price of $20.

BNE part 234, by tricorn on Jul 21, 2014 18:52:47 GMT 1, My hope is that the print is an outis collab of some sort of urban terrorist subverted into normal life. A lollipop man in a balaclava with hand finished graffiti on the lollipop would be perfect, so the whole 'scene' could internally combust through all the greed and profiteering. I miss the days when all people would argue about was wether the handles on the Bethlehem trolleys print were hand finished by Banksy or not

BNE part 234, by noirrion on Jul 21, 2014 19:09:14 GMT 1, So I am going to wait and see until the release and if I am happy with what I see I am going to take my option to buy as I forgot to ask for a refund.
Maybe then it turns out that BNEยดs intention wasnยดt to do such a scam and risk his reputation and explains why the Banksy announcement only happened that close before the release even the release went viral. Maybe it was really the idea to avoid flipping and do a social experiment who is willing to participate in the idea to bring water to people without thinking of a quick profit with a Banksy shirt. But maybe itยดs even a bigger scam. You never know

You never know people claiming it's a "social experiment" and defending BNE are forgetting that most people (like myself) did not request a refund because Banksy wasn't involved, we requested a refund because BNE is a liar and criminal, selling way more than 100 shirts and kept the money for himself. so if it were a social experiment, there are WAY too many "variables" to get a valid conclusion, scientifically speaking

BNE part 234, by opalis141 on Jul 21, 2014 19:28:04 GMT 1, bnedotorg Shortly after our World Water Day release of The Collaborative Tee, Banksy posted on his website the words โBanksy has not made any t-shirts for a water charityโ. What followed was interesting. About half of our customers immediately requested refunds, a few even insulted us. Some claimed refunds and generously donated directly to water charities. Some customers, understandably, were bummed that they werenโt getting a tee from their favorite artist. Apologies to anyone who was disappointed. Many people however, didnโt really care about Banksyโs claim of non-involvement, and stuck with us because they believed in the cause. Not only did they want to help people in need get access to clean water, they stuck with us to help build a movement. If you were one of the people who did not claim a refund, we feel that you deserve to be rewarded. It takes a lot to commit to a mystery tee, even if it does help people in need get access to clean drinking water. On September, 18 at 10AM PDT, a signed print titled โWaterโ will be released on BNE.org. Collab Tee customers who stuck with us, and did not claim a refund, will have the opportunity to purchase prints for the drastically discounted price of $350. This print will be available to refunded Collaborative Tee customers, and the general public for the full price of $6000. Print details and ordering instructions will be disclosed shortly before the release. One print per customer. Absolutely no exceptions. In November, the money that we have raised will be put to work. We will fund the work of small local NGOs in South-East Asia, and help bring clean water to those in need. Photos and updates from the field will be posted on social media and BNE.org Don't know if this was mentioned elsewhere--I'm a little late to the game. From what I understand the money from this never actually made it to the charity, which subsequently cut ties with BNE?

BNE part 234, by Deleted on Jul 21, 2014 19:30:07 GMT 1, "It is becoming a popular sales tactic / ploy to link an item, albeit worded very carefully, with Banksy.
If people are eager to help out a charity there are plenty to choose from, ie. give a homeless guy the $350.
If on the other hand people have profit in mind then the risk involved to that persons finances is of their own doing."

BNE part 234, by bullysonzx10r on Jul 21, 2014 19:52:04 GMT 1, So I ordered more than 1 of the shirts, in fact I ordered 3. Now, before you start to lambast me as a flipper, my original thought was "Buy two that you can potentially frame if it has a front and back image, and one that you can wear."
After this whole thing happened, I hung in till BNE failed to provide the Faile COAs to everyone, which IMHO was an obvious admittance that he made WAY more than 100 of those shirts, and was being dishonest.
At that time, I cancelled 2 of my orders, and left one intact. I did this because... Why not? getting the money back wasn't going to make me rich, hoping it would go to the Water Charity could potentially help some people, and I'll be very honest, I probably would not have taken that money and sent it directly to a charity if I had it back in my bank account.
My Tee showed up this weekend, and it's probably going to end up being a workout Tee for me as opposed to anything else. Hell, I even purchased my first Six Print because of this whole incident (Pool Closed) and have it hanging in my living room -- looks great, Six.
With this new revelation, it'll be interesting to see if BNE continues to be full of shit, which I have every reason to believe he is, or to see if he was the Ring Master all along.
Worst case scenario, I spent way too much on a T-shirt that I'll probably only wear to the gym.

BNE part 234, by microfluo on Jul 21, 2014 20:04:06 GMT 1, FFS not again. I totally forgot about this. At first i thought it was legit because of all the well known artist involved so i decided to buy the collab T-shirt. Then Banksy denied having done a collab for world water day. At that time i had a real questioning to myself about charity vs Banksy and art. At the end i decided not asking a refund because i thought the water cause deserved more than an 100 quids and greedy things. I did that also sellfishly :not to have remorse getting my money back while the first aim was to help people in need. With that choice my mind was at ease! Now the BNE's story is back again and i've just read that the money wasn't even given to world water charity. I hope is just a bad nightmare...Needless to talk about the mysterious print. I just hope at the end of the money given will go to help a good cause !

BNE part 234, by .dappy on Jul 21, 2014 20:16:46 GMT 1, ... I posted this on the other BNE thread a few days ago ...
('if it moos it's a cow ... if it quacks it's a duck.')
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
... it just gets better ...
instagram.com/p/qe2fWizadS/
BNE is now showing off art that he has just bought, quite an ironic print ... and then when someone asks him tell us which charity the money went to as it has been 2 weeks now ... his reply is 'How about you have a little patience?' ... and that 'not everyone has received their orders yet' ...
and to insult to injury he finishes with THIS:
'Details will be announced...when WE are ready to do so.'
Forgive me - but how long is this 'person' (insert your own swear word) been holding on to peoples' money and thousands of $$$$ from the sale of all of the t-shirts.
(I have caps the 'we', but the guy is just taking the p!ss & he has started to use my ...)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Brilliant ... Just Brilliant.

BNE part 234, by behaviorist on Jul 21, 2014 21:20:05 GMT 1, I purchased and got refunded the moment BNE started talking about sticking it all those who asked for refunds, making them regret they'd ever done so. Just didn't sit right and I've not trusted BNE since; the facade of charity does him no favors.
That said, this is the gift that keeps giving. I've loved watching this unfold, every step of the way. Each development is like a fractal: the same story within a story within a story. I love it.

BNE part 234, by met on Jul 21, 2014 21:27:54 GMT 1, such a master in shady marketing. don't know what can flip for 6k these days that is not a signed Banksy (talking about the urban art scene of course).
There is no mastery involved; this is painting by numbers.
BNE's tactics are textbook โ tried and tested thousands of times.
Once the victim's confidence has been earned, the scammer then introduces a delay or monetary hurdle that prevents the deal from occurring as planned [...]. [T]he victim willingly transfers the money [...] and the scammer receives and pockets it. More delays and additional costs are added, always keeping the promise [...] alive, convincing the victim that the money the victim is currently paying is covered several times over by the payoff. Sometimes psychological pressure is added [...] by comparing the salary scale and living conditions in Africa to those in the West. Much of the time, however, the needed psychological pressure is self-applied; once the victims have provided money toward the payoff, they feel they have a vested interest in seeing the "deal" through.

Just didn't sit right and I've not trusted BNE since; the facade of charity does him no favors. That said, this is the gift that keeps giving. I've loved watching this unfold, every step of the way. Each development is like a fractal: the same story within a story within a story. I love it. The story is indeed entertaining โ albeit in a depressing way, given it's at the expense of the naive, the gullible, and those who, quite admirably, tend to give strangers the benefit of the doubt. The exploitation of the charity card also does little to restore one's faith in humanity.
In following the story, I'm just relieved I can do it from some distance.
From a purely visual perspective, at least the Obey, Invader and Faile t-shirts are well designed. But unfortunately they too are forever tainted by their association with a chancer-fraudster.
I would no longer wear one of these t-shirts myself. It would equate to publicly supporting BNE and condoning his actions โ which I couldn't do without embarrassment, a feeling of moral compromise, and even (strong word) shame.
If I had purchased one of these t-shirts, I'd now be sorting out a credit card chargeback on the basis that the item received was not as described, i.e. it wasn't from a limited edition of 100. This was very clearly demonstrated by the way BNE dealt with the COAs produced by Faile.

BNE part 234, by joecool91 on Jul 22, 2014 17:22:20 GMT 1, I've seen the future and the print will be plain grey and will say;
"Bansky has not made any print for a water charity"
In all seriousness though a print run of 500 worth $6k - he's clearly implying it's a banksy without saying it this time.

I've seen the future and the print will be plain grey and will say; "Bansky has not made any print for a water charity" In all seriousness though a print run of 500 worth $6k - he's clearly implying it's a banksy without saying it this time. but since when has Banksy charged $6K for a print run of 500?ย 600 is more like it

BNE part 234, by maddoghoek100 on Jul 22, 2014 19:19:30 GMT 1, dont be ridiculous. he is in no way implying that it is a banksy. it could just as easily be a hand finished faile which would retail for 6k
i would put it at equal probability that it is a Faile print as a Banksy print 0%
