New book out now - "The Street Art World", by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Aug 10, 2018 18:13:59 GMT 1, Not connected in any but just a thought I had about rescuing old Banksy works.
I was just thinking that the original 'laugh now' was painted all over the walls of a club in Brighton called the ocean rooms. That club is now closed and has been closed for years.
I then decided to Google it and found the works were bought in 2008 for ยฃ200k by that Keszlar chap who rips off all Banksy's Street works.

The discussion of "rescuing" street art works - be it through preservation on-site or removal - is very interesting, and is something I bring up in my first book. Also, I am currently working on an anthology chapter that discusses street art removals in relation to copyright law.

I also noticed this article, where the club owner says it was one of 6 Banksy pieces in the club.
I'm surprised that some enterprising sort hasn't gone searching for there remains.
I'm fairly sure the building they are in will be demolished in the near future.

New book out now - "The Street Art World", by Peter Bengtsen on Sept 22, 2018 8:49:22 GMT 1, Last night I gave an introductory talk at Panora Arthouse Cinema in Malmรถ. The occassion was the premiere of the documentary film The Man Who Stole Banksy by Marco Proserpio. The film tells the story of one of the removed Bethlehem murals attributed to Banksy.
The talk discussed the status of decontextualised wall paintings as works of art and pointed out that such objects generally have a weak position on the art market.
