New Print, by Deleted on Aug 18, 2014 8:34:48 GMT 1, this is pretty cool, and very affordable, anyone that knows the background of this piece? Probably some kind of story to it.

New Print, by Feral Things on Aug 18, 2014 19:13:30 GMT 1, this is pretty cool, and very affordable, anyone that knows the background of this piece? Probably some kind of story to it. ‘1000 Shadows’ is an on-going project which will shortly include a number of installations in conjunction with Winterlong Galerie and, consequently, Eric can probably convey the artist’s intentions far better than myself. But my interpretation is that the work references the quote often attributed to Winston Churchill about how ‘History is written by the victors’ and how the flip side to that is that the marginalised and disadvantaged in society are often forgotten and ignored by the history books. While, on a conscious level these people may have been forgotten, their influence and past presence still lingers in the places where they resided and in society more generally. The distended figures are echoes of history; lost souls reinserted into the world. The first piece below is from an abandoned psychiatric hospital in Parma where people were discarded and forgotten about by their families and the second piece was painted in the artist’s native São Paulo where people live and die in anonymous poverty. Both photos are from Herbert Balgione's IG.
