Selim Varol Collection, by Karl Read on Jul 19, 2014 19:14:39 GMT 1, Would have loved to see that collection !!! Always wondered HOW the Hell Selim manages to simply buy EVERY piece of Streetart that ever get released ? I mean he can't have bought all of those if same rules that apply to us apply to him, right ? Hope I don't get too personal telling he's good friends with many artists now. He met his wife via JR and JR was his best man at his marriage. Selim (Turkish) inspired Shep to do his Atatürk image and Shep visits him when he's in Germany etc. etc. Selim if you read this I hope you don't mind me telling those info. I got the impression that some members' envy want to see your person in a light where you absolutely don't belong to... I'm pretty sure Shep wasn't inspired to do it. Im pretty sure that Selim commissioned the canvas as well as a number of screen prints of the same image. Selim also gave out a poster with stickers of the same image also. I have one somewhere.
I think his collection is amazing. I love the balance of low to high prices art all sat together. would love to see it in person.

Selim Varol Collection, by barryh on Jul 20, 2014 9:52:18 GMT 1, Just looks like passion to me, herb and Dorothy of urban Art. It just takes starting to collect at the right time, without the need to ever sell and you end up with a collection like that.

Would be nerve racking though, whole collection on display, reckon i would be standing guard over it all day/every day making sure no1 messes with anything

Selim Varol Collection, by LAZAKY on Jul 21, 2014 7:05:26 GMT 1, Wow, this collection is just amazing! This guy could get his hand on almost...everything! I say bravo to the man! Even if he already got the money to make his collection grow, it takes times and taste to do such a collection! Art world needs people like him, especially for "young" art like street/urban art, I'm sure that a lot of artist we like now will not stay after years/decades, and this guys with his collection will helps people to keep them in minds! That's important!

Selim Varol Collection, by Backpack Punk on Jul 21, 2014 19:33:49 GMT 1, To me this collection is the perfect representation of this forum. Almost every artist that has been coveted on here is represented in this collection. I look at many of these pieces and it reminds me of so many threads on here. It is amazing in size but I personally feel looking at this it lacks a personal touch. It feels like a collection by committee, almost as if every forum member voted on what to put in that show. That being said, it is still quite amazing for being a personal collection and I am very happy to see that such a collection exists by a person and not an institution and I think with a little editing this would an even better exhibition.

Selim Varol Collection, by anodyne13 on Jul 21, 2014 21:54:36 GMT 1, I might only suggest that this is an exhibition of a collection, not necessarily a curated exhibition. I think there is a difference there and part of what makes the exhibition interesting is the lack of down selection that is normally involved in a curated exhibition.

Selim Varol Collection, by kchay on Jul 26, 2014 21:31:10 GMT 1, I've seen this collection a few times on the web but never associated it with the collector. I honestly thought it was the archive of a museum looking to capture the rise of new art forms with a new generation.
Unbelievably impressive that one person assembled all of these works. A passion for art without bounds.

Selim Varol Collection, by gab on Jul 26, 2014 21:47:05 GMT 1, I think it will be really interesting and fun to see this collection in twenty years time. It will be like a time travel back to a period in the urban art scene, with some artist and art long forgotten. I consider his collection as a historical archive of the urban art scene.

Selim Varol Collection, by Dice on Jul 27, 2014 10:08:55 GMT 1, I wonder if there is anything he doesn't buy? Yes it's an impressive collection but it doesn't seem to be moderated in any way, quite the scatter gun approach. I wonder if he really likes all those pieces? It is a great archive of urban art from this era though.
I love the look of the burger bar, didn't realise it was his and if I'm ever in those parts I will make sure I pop in.
