Show us your Sex Pistols................., by Deleted on Aug 21, 2014 23:09:12 GMT 1, Hi Pistol, thanks for sharing your collection - great post! Like you I have also been inspired by Jammie Reids work. It got me into collage, along with Vaucher, Winston Smith and Genesis p-orridge. I like his loose, free style. Apologies for the crap pic of my pad.

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2014 0:09:28 GMT 1, Similar story with me too , I was a 14 year old deep in the Rhondda Valleys where info was slow to seep to back then and the first I knew of "punk" was the fuss in the papers after the Bill Grundy show ....as 14 year old all the "up yours" attitude was very appealing but I hadn't yet heard any of this new fangled "punk" music.
Somehow I got to hear that they were playing in Caerphilly which although only about 15 miles away from my village would have taken hours back then to have made the journey by bus , winding through sleepy village after sleepy village , so I didn't make the journey , at that point I didn't even know what "punk" sounded like?
Cut a long story short , a few weeks later I went to Rainbow Records in Pontypridd precinct and asked naively if he had any "punk records" , and seeing as I was financially independent due to my ยฃ1 a day , 7 days a week milk round (ยฃ7 a week!) I was able to buy Damned , Damned , Damned and the Ramones 2nd album "Leave Home"...the rest is history , I fell in love with the first wave of "punk" and bitterly regretted not going to Caerphilly to catch The Pistols when I had the chance , consoling myself that I would go and see them "next time" they toured ...of course "next time" was never to come.
like you I caught up with them at Finsbury park years later , and again at Brixton a few years later again , but it's my biggest regret that I had the chance to see the original band in the moment and blew it......
I saw everyone else of note from the time though , even supported Wire (Chairs Missing tour) and the ReVillos(not the ReZillos)..... Great halyon days

I grew up on the out-skirt of ponty, livining near Eglywssilan. I now live in rural Lincolnshire, and been back once in the last 5 years. Old friends in Tonypandy and Rhydfelin. Not a Pistols fan, and they were before my time. Caught the second wave though - Crass etc, late in the day. Listened repeatedly to PIL's 'One Drop' a while ago - if anyone's in need of a moral injection. Nice post Fattyramone, thats taken me on a trip down memory lane for sure.

How would you go about pronouncing that? I thought you'd had a keyboard fit or something at first!! Cheers, UmBongo It's not as unpronoucible as it may seem .... the key is to bear in mind "Y" is used as a vowel in Welsh , so phonetically you would say "un-iss-a-bull" ' say it quickly to form one word...
The Welsh alphabet just uses different vowels to English ...Double "LL" is a vowel too (you see that everywhere)....coincidently , there are no "J"s in the Welsh alphabet , so the name that is most synonymous with being Welsh i.e. "Jones" is not really possible
And the prefix "Aber" that you will see everywhere in Wales ...Abercynon , Aberdare , Abercwmboyd etc etc ..is simple to understand why too ..."Aber" simply means "The mouth of" (beginning of)
.....and here endeth your first lesson , now off you go to Chapel and if you go breaking your leg on the way , don't come running to me......

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by Deleted on Aug 22, 2014 19:44:14 GMT 1, That's beautiful fatty, such eloquence is a gift, and your story was heart-felt. It stirs very mixed emotions, but it's always good hear from some-one else who made it over the wire.
One of the very best things about Punk, the pistols or otherwise, is that it broadened peoples horizons.

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 3, 2014 2:46:18 GMT 1, Is that your recording /youtube upload? ...
if so your going to be very popular
Heres some photos from the gig and more interestingly with the pistols arriving at the gig and at an Esso garage before hand ....it's a good reminder to those who weren't old enough to remember first hand at just how normal and ordinary most of them looked before the "fashion punk" era caught hold.
there's quite a few pages of photos to root through , great stuff

Heh, small world indeed. I was born in Ynysybwl, moved to Pontypridd, and now in Newport. Can't seem to leave Wales... Good for you umajets. Count your blessings would be my advice. I was just looking at property prices in Mountain Ash, I love Llandeilo woods.
The only reason that I left Wales, was because I had to, not wanted to. Coming from a Traveller family background, I choose not to marry the person, or live the life my family wanted for me. I spent a long time running, living in various areas of the UK, even leaving the country for New Zealand at one stage. I finally settled in Licolnshire, and have been here for 5 years now. My daughter has had a full education, and gone off to university, and I now go to evening classes at the local college, Maths, English and Art. In a few more years, I will be encroaching middle age!
It has taken almost 20 years, to marry the girl I have always loved, bring my daughter up the way that I see fit (educated), and finally get the opportunity to study myself. Sadly, these things were not so possible back then. I was born in, and grew up in Wales, and very much miss Welsh people. People in the valleys are far better integrated, and accepting of difference, than many areas, that are perhaps more conservative. An old friends Gran was an Italian Jew, and another friends Grandad, Ukranian, who once worked at cwm colliery I think. I could go on!
At the risk of sounding patronizing, I have tremendous affection and respect for Welsh people, kind, compassionate, charitable, yet fair. Tremendously hard working, and arduous, yet so good humored and friendly, valleys people especially.
By the time I was a teenager, the pistols were already history, along with Crass, and so much more. The message was just as relevant as ever though, and listening to records like Anarchy In The Uk, even years later, helped galvanize me into living my own life. I'm definitively a John Lydon fan, far from being the biggest threat since Hitler to the youth of this country, he's probably encouraged and inspired more kids, than any politician can imagine.

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 3, 2014 13:56:06 GMT 1, Hi Cai. , we had a lot of Eastern Europeans working in the pits then , even though we generically referred to them all as "The Polish" ...pretty much similar to now eh? ..nothing changes much.
And likewise the Italians , practically every cafe in the Rhondda and Ponty were ran by some Italian family or other ......generically we called them "the Bracchi's"......best ice-cream , steamed pies and frothy-coffees anywhere.
As far as I'm aware there was no racial overtones to the name "The Bracchi's'" , just a bit like referring to "scousers and Geordies".
Appolgies to all for turning this thread into a Plaid Cymru meeting!

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 4, 2014 14:00:08 GMT 1, Drifting slightly off the Sex Pistols track but still relevant , someone on Ebay is selling off a complete signed Rich Kids poster.
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICH-KIDS-Sex-Pistols-LARGE-POSTER-SIGNED-by-all-4-w-COA-PHOTOS-SMUDGED-/161473437106?pt=UK_Music_Music_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item2598911db2
I've just got mine through today and I only bought it 2 days ago.
The seller seems to have quite a few of them and just puts another one on as the other is bought. To be fair to him , he's honest and upfront about there being certain issues wrong with the posters , mainly the smudging of the silver ink used to sign the prints and/or transference of the silver ink onto the front image ...but hey , this is punk right kids!
All the signatures on my copy are clean and smudge free , just a little bit of silver ink the poster image itself.
For what he's selling them for ...ยฃ8.50 ....although he now wants ยฃ9.99 ...I don't think you can go wrong really , as long as your not expecting them to be "mint-in-box" so to speak.
Go get 'em Floyd......

Somehow I got to hear that they were playing in Caerphilly which although only about 15 miles away from my village would have taken hours back then to have made the journey by bus , winding through sleepy village after sleepy village , so I didn't make the journey , at that point I didn't even know what "punk" sounded like? I was visiting my folks in Berryville VA and didn't realize until day after they had played Alexandria VA on their ill-fated US tour. I also saw the Finsbury Park show, Johnny proclaiming "we're fat, 40 and proud!" Buzzcocks and Iggy on that lineup.

Great halyon days I was visiting my folks in Berryville VA and didn't realize until day after they had played Alexandria VA on their ill-fated US tour. I also saw the Finsbury Park show, Johnny proclaiming "we're fat, 40 and proud!" Buzzcocks and Iggy on that lineup.

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 4, 2014 18:26:52 GMT 1, Yeah I was there for that comeback gig at Finsbury Park ...still got a few ticket stubs kicking around too as they just left them in heaps to pick up after the gig.
There's was probably 4x more people there at that gig than had ever seen them at all the gigs they had ever done before they split.
I think it was "Fat , forty and back".....a pun on "Young , gifted and black"

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by sssikuk on Nov 9, 2014 12:22:15 GMT 1, Hello
I've been a collector of Pistols vinyl for several years now and have just had the opportunity to buy a Jamie Reid GSTQ silk flag. It is approx 40 x 20 inches with the ยฉJamie Reid 1977 in the bottom left. Can someone tell me anything about these flag's i.e: year of manufacture, quantities, value? Were there any fake flags made?
Thanks a lot.
