Irish Urban/Street and Contemporary art, by Momo on Jul 28, 2016 11:13:54 GMT 1, Francis Bacon
Pretty sure most of you know him but still haha..
Born in Ireland in 1909, Francis Bacon spent most of his working life in London, and he died in 1992. Bacon is best known for portraiture, using a somewhat abstracted style to create works that were often disturbing and always striking. In a series that continued from the late 1940s until the mid 1960s, Bacon created painting after painting exploring a papal theme, with many of the pieces being reworkings of Diego Vรฉlasquez' Portrait of Pope Innocent X. While it is unclear what the motivation for the series was (even Bacon himself later said that the work was 'silly' and he didn't know why he made it), what is clear is that the artist could employ minimal means to great, grotesque effect.

Irish Urban/Street and Contemporary art, by yorkie on Mar 26, 2018 23:05:40 GMT 1, OK so not exactly 'street art' as you cannot find these in the street.... but on a recent visit to Dublin we had an off site meeting at Iconic offices and I snapped these three bits of art...
We were there for a few days and they grew on me!

Irish Urban/Street and Contemporary art, by beatlebum on Apr 28, 2018 16:24:03 GMT 1, My friend James Hanley is a brilliant Irish artist, he is Ireland's leading portraiture painter, this one is hanging in the National Gallery. Nice thread, loved the work featured so far. Thanks. Here is a link, I was trying to upload some images but it doesn't seem to work for me. www.jameshanley.net
