Banksy valuations, by Poster Bob on Oct 7, 2014 22:20:26 GMT 1, I think these kids put Banksy on a pedestal and get upset when they can't afford ihis work. Banksy does have a solution to this kids, he really doesn't do jack s**t to stop recreations. Want a GWB canvas? No problem, ยฃ50 on ebay. As if banksy is crying in his mansion thinking about the most recent hammer prices on prints. This guy has about ยฃ40k worth of prints sitting around, I say congratulations. Not what I'm asking about at all. I'm asking why own any artwork if you're not displaying it? Put down the bottle of Hatorade son. You jelly.

In a perfect world, artwork would be in the hands of people who will frame them up and enjoy looking at them all day

Banksy valuations, by Deleted on Oct 7, 2014 22:32:51 GMT 1, Like some other things ( not aiming this at the OP, but generalising)
lovely cars that never get driven, covered up and wrapped up warm
Comic books never opened
watches never worn
handbags never used
star war toys still in original packaging
there must be more to add to the list
its a 'collector' thing
Doesn't do it for me, i'd drive the cars dudes, read the comics, wear the watches, walk in style with my funky hand bag, trash those toys, and hang the pictures on the wall.

And what noise are you referring to? I generally try to avoid confrontation

Banksy valuations, by Deleted on Oct 7, 2014 23:06:45 GMT 1, I'd assume the answer the OP stored these and kept them tip top is the exact reason for this original post. Great investment if you ask me...
Some Collect simply to collect.
In Feds defence, not only is he an avid collector, but he's a huge fan of street art, Banksy and many of the other artists. I can understand his wonder of the investment collector, the same way I can understand buying for the sake of selling.

Why do I own other 100 pairs of 'sneakers' yet still only have two feet..

It is true fed is a genuine Banksy collector. I can relate to what he is saying. Feels wrong to stick great art in a folio as an investment rather than sticking it on the wall. But i also think it is wrong to collect sneakers. Some others think that is perfectly normal Each to their own i guess

Json/fed I have come across lots and lots of art fans/addicts who have loads of art on the walls AND in portfolios. It's not necessarily someone is a fan OR an 'investor'. Storage gives the opportunity to rotate artworks, have a change around etc as speaking from experience I sometimes end up wanting a change or getting bored of a piece every now and then.
There is nothing wrong with storing art. Don't forget back in the day banksys cost nothing so clever people bought quite a few and lots are being stored. Now it's different, very expensive. buying for a portfolio is less likely, banksy is better known so more people want it on the wall etc etc

Banksy valuations, by jim65535 on Oct 8, 2014 15:07:19 GMT 1, Hi all
I rarely comment and make it a point never to derail sale threads but I can't help myself on this one...
I was a fan early on - so most all but the gangsta rat and liita i am the original owner of. I loved banksys work but then i got led on to other artist who i grew into. I would love to have these framed early on but then the value of these became to much for me to consider framing them up but i never needed the cash to warrant selling them. I saw Willyonwonthe's reply to the question about why the prints aren't on the wall. This is completely understandable and an issue everyone will hit at some point with Banksy prints (unless and until the bottom drops out of the market :-) )
I have 4 on the wall....I bought them at a price I could justify as disposable income and have loved having them on the wall to look at rather than having the money in the bank. However with the price rises in the past year I now worry about framing quality and whether it's fair to the family to have that much money locked up in prints.
What's happened? The prints haven't changed and I love the images as much as ever....in some ways I would prefer it if the market hadn't gone up...that way I wouldn't worry about them and 'd be able to buy other prints I missed out on at the time...maybe even the Radar Rat which is my favourite!
Everyone on the forum will hit this issue at some point as value of prints increase and there is absolutely nothing wrong with making the decision to switch to protect the investment when you reach that point....it's a personal and family issue.
Jim

I am not keeping it in the folio as an investment but i do keep it instead of selling it because i do like the image. I am also on the hunt for a piece and i think i will trade some of the prints so i keep them safe in the folio. Personally i don't mind people storing prints but i can see Fed's point that he would LOVE a Banksy print on his wall and in his case it would feel really wrong to be 'privileged' to have a Banksy print but then not frame it.

Banksy valuations, by Deleted on Oct 9, 2014 12:22:37 GMT 1, I know its my own fault but I am not currently selling these prints until COAs are in place for them all.
Once these are ready to go I will say as such and the bunfight can begin!

Banksy valuations, by cmodart on Oct 9, 2014 13:26:44 GMT 1, I imagine your inbox has melted so I will start the party with an offer of ยฃ27k post-COA. You had the foresight to collect early and buy good art.
Congratulations to you for amassing an impressive and meaningful collection. Whether you enjoy them in the frame or preserved in the flat file, that is your business.
Many thanks, Aaron
