To the person sending BS offers to me on ebay talking shit, by Dungle on Oct 22, 2014 21:26:45 GMT 1, It's not. They're talking about the harrington small town tale. The way I see it, it was priced at the gallery for $400 (I think) with the proceeds going to charity. Simple enough transaction. If one bought it, and opted to sell it shortly thereafter for any reason that is their right. Whether to fund a bigger purchase, because they have no room - whatever. This self-righteous complaining about flipping about any piece is juvenile holier than thou bs (IMHO). I think the pattern of coveted art being resold for higher prices has been going on for almost as long as art has been created. Those who argue otherwise have a foundation-less argument based on personal emotion. Again, my opinion...but I've worked with musicians and artists for 30 years as a career choice.
But can I buy it for cost?

If you can find it for cost I can't see why not. Depending on where you live likely a free country. But other than the gallery nobody obligated to sell it to you at cost. Supply and demand a basic economic principle.

I didn't do that.
So sorry if you still think that about me. Wait, no, I'm not sorry.

Money is ruining this forum. Think I'll stick to PM's for the most part

To the person sending BS offers to me on ebay talking shit, by sgolby on Oct 22, 2014 21:46:46 GMT 1, Can we all agree to not give a sh*t about this anymore... I have a problem with Flipping, and it begins and ends when someone buys something and tries to sell it before receiving the print. My only problem with it, is that the idea behind a print is to offer fans without the means to be able to have an opportunity to own some of their art.
Flippers suck because they do ZERO work and reap a profit on the work of both the artist and the customer. That to me sucks. Call me high minded, but I busted my *ss for the past 16 years to get to where I am, and the idea of giving some schmuck in his undies money for having a faster internet connection than me bothers me because they are lazy and expect that this world owes them something for nothing. It is a general problem with society, but is exemplified by the print game.
The worst part about it, is that now prints have gone from affordable to a luxury for most of the fans because the artists see little hemorrhoids reaping the profit from their hard work.
There is nothing wrong with changing your mind, or selling for a profit... however there are ways to do it, and then there are ways to do it and come off like a scumbag...
Just my thoughts. Not passing judgement or calling anyone a flipper. Just my thoughts.

To the person sending BS offers to me on ebay talking shit, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 22:02:49 GMT 1, This will be a discusion with no end. And it can go on forever; Flipping/no flipping, what is a flipper?, is it also flipping years after a release?, flippers ruin it for true fans, when there is art there will be flippers, Banksy is not releasing prints because of the flippers.... Just a couple of subjects who were discussed lately.... Perhaps we need a new section on the forum. "Discussion alley"? - for all your discussions about money and flipping - Can a mod take this up in your monthly meeting ?
P.S. Did we find the BS talking lowballer? - I would like a word with him/her (i like to learn from the best!).

To the person sending BS offers to me on ebay talking shit, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 22:03:39 GMT 1, I think that if you're going to sell a print for LOTS more than what you paid, soon after said print was released... You're a flipper. Else you would sell it to close to cost to your forum friends.
Now- the OP did have it on eBay, so he gets brownie points... I'd suggest to OP to just ignore future "lo-ball" offers and their attached comments... And move on. It's the OP's right to sell the print at whatever the market will bear.
I am glad I don't like it! <smiley>

I agree with some of your well-made points - listing an item before you have lame, and on that case someone clogging up the system. But buying a print at a gallery...different. And I imagine most that bought the originals are thinking of investment value and reselling at a higher price at some point.
But I disagree on your reasoning as to why prints are created.

Ppl take stuff so personal, it's just the internet....

Agreeing to disagree a thoughtful solution, one would think a forum on art would have more of this!
