Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by Poster Bob on Nov 15, 2014 19:11:01 GMT 1, If I'm a clown then they're asshats. Look at the stark difference between the forums: on one 14 people try to make a quick buck; on the other one person tries to and is forced to drown in opprobrium.

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by natstan on Nov 16, 2014 2:14:38 GMT 1, Should an artist be happy knowing many people buy them purely to flip or he shouldn't care as long as it sells out almost instantly? Discuss.

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by sin on Nov 16, 2014 3:42:54 GMT 1, Yeah. Someone should be thrilled the work they bring to market is diverted to secondary retailers looking to capitalize. You know Pfizer should just be happy they people are willing to divert their drugs to secondary wholesale markets, because you know, that just means people like their product.

The secondary market is necessary and crucial for any artist's success.
Grab this whole you can. The noobs on eBay selling these for 400 are a true steal and will look so first quarter next year.
I suppose they made their lunch money from the purchase.. kudos to them?
If you sell this for less than 650 for a standard you have knowledge to gain.

In the case of Eelus, his secondary prices are pretty unpredictable. Some of his works' prices are very soft whereas just a few pieces are held in higher regard. To hold a print that does not sell so fast on the secondary market and do the waiting game till a buyer comes along, or even lowering your prices in order to sell fast and make a but of money after factoring all the hidden costs and hassle makes print purchasing for the purpose of flipping the most unwise investment in the world. One can do better with his money in other investments and reap higher profits (at least I know I can). So even to become a flipper, it takes some serious homework to make sure what he buy is in high demand and move it fast to make it a good 'business'.
As an artist though, I should think one wouldn't care. "I made my money."

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by sin on Nov 16, 2014 4:59:41 GMT 1, you can always look at it two ways.
a. art is different than other commodities b. art is the same
if art is different, its because the value is determined by something other than the actual value of the item. art , more than any other luxury item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. we often attempt to justify that this item, more than others is a piece of the creator. some decorative arts, furniture etc, mimics this, but nothing quite a much as art. In this cast, taking someones passion and monetizing it without offering value is pretty vile.
if art is the same as other commodities, primary manufactures produce their work and expect to be able to control the wholesale and retail parts of their business. should phizer be happy it made its money when it sells a product wholesale to mckessan but then that gets diverted in some market, sold on the grey market and then moved via a secondary wholesaler to a new retailer. shouldnt phizer be happy? they made their money. No, when a market gets out of a manufactures control, they put their brand, product and market value at peril and this is why phizer spends tens of millions fighting diversion.
so be it for either reason i think these opportunists are the worse side effects of fluid markers and at worst they steal the good will of the artists and the collector, keeping that extracted value for themselves without providing anything to either stakeholder that they couldnt accomplish themselves.

The art collection game is also built upon that little probability of making big bucks should the work or the artist hits big time, or a particular print becomes highly sought after. It is actually very hard for any human being to justify spending a fortune on an art piece without thinking of the value it will hold. We all have bills to pay, kids to bring up and many other necessities in our lifetime to buy. Is looking at an image daily for a feel-good factor a necessity in life? I would think nobody thinks that way - we won't die from that. And not forgetting we may eventually tire of looking at something up to a certain point in life.
It's ironically the secondary market that keeps this whole art collecting thing going. Without these opportunists, this becomes a very unexciting hobby. It's that feeling of getting something highly desirable (as we humans all like to) and subsequently ride on that mild possibility of making money on selling it onto the next person in the future which probably appeals to lot of collectors. Of course, one may say he is buying to support the artist to continue doing what he do, but let's face it - there are millions of other more meaningful causes we need to support in this world.
My only question is, as an artist, will I feel upset that I am being made use of as a money churning machine, that people who buy my work transform it into a commodity rather than see it as something they would be proud to hang on their walls? Everything else is secondary.

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by sin on Nov 16, 2014 6:52:14 GMT 1, most of the artists i have the pleasure of knowing would prefer not to feel like they are being monetized by people that dont value their work beyond its economics. hell, even in traditional business, a business that only makes money is a poor business. while there are forms of the secondary market, that are valuable to the art world, these short term flippers are parasites. these digital "galleries" that don't provide value to their collectors, that dont represent any artists, are parasites.
i work closely with a gallery that deals heavily in secondary work. that guy isnt buying print releases and flipping them in 2 weeks, he is making tours to part of the country, hunting, finding work for his clients, etc. he make a fair margin doing it, he helps collectors find important pieces for his collectors, who trust him. its easy to spot a parasite, in his transactions, only he wins. lumping those dipshits in with actual business people is offensive to business people.

I helped a member here gonefella check on some stuff earlier, and though the deal didn't fall through, he kindly sent me some beer money for my efforts. Do I need the money? No. But I was pleased to see people make such gesture. Still looking to pay it forward to him in the near future.

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by chitownhero on Nov 16, 2014 16:45:22 GMT 1, The secondary market is necessary and crucial for any artist's success. "I made my money." This is not Mondo.

You are part of the problem, and also part of why I will always exist and grab multiples of every release worth anything. Because of people like you, who think it is ok, to sell prints at cost after a high-demand release has sold out.
If you're a parasite, I am a bigger parasite, because I sell 5-10 of each high-demand print for each one that is sold at cost by parasites like you.
Flipping. Is. Awesome.

Its the first time a grab a print during the online sale... i was more than surprised as was the very first time i scored one. I have already tons of eelus works, this one was just an extra for me, so i propose here at 200ยฃ instead at cost of 180ยฃ and 3 person ask for details but was already on hold. The point is, i become a parasite, a bastard, a xxxx, a xxxxxxx and and.... and all that because i offer the print near cost helping other forum members. Here we dont speak about flipping, nothing to do with eb or ebay or.... here was just an help.... thats a basilar standart of this forum isnt? Idiot.ย You are part of the problem, and also part of why I will always exist and grab multiples of every release worth anything.ย Because of people like you, who think it is ok, to sell prints at cost after a high-demand release has sold out. If you're a parasite, I am a bigger parasite, because I sell 5-10 of each high-demand print for each one that is sold at cost by parasites like you. Flipping.ย Is.ย Awesome. It's alright... Really. Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by natstan on Nov 16, 2014 17:49:38 GMT 1, In the case of Eelus, his secondary prices are pretty unpredictable. "I made my money." This is not Mondo.
By now, I'm pretty convinced you are a nice person outside of this forum and you'll just trying to be the bad guy here with all these special crafted comments to incite hate towards you. Come, my friend, we welcome you with open arms to this forum once again.
I am after a Maya Hayuk Very X. You have any copy to flip to me???

The original on paper of "Conjuring" is really nice. In case of questions just let me know. Maybe I can help.

Conjuring - A New Print Edition from Eelus, by noirrion on Nov 26, 2014 21:46:00 GMT 1, Did these Canvas sell at the end ? They haven't directly sold at the opening. But Colab Gallery does not send out a pdf with available works in advance. So only the audience is able to buy. But I expect them to sell once interested people receive the pdf.

Just unwrapped the black cannon it arrived in! Very nice indeed, well chuffed.
Anybody that missed out, there are some standard versions available in eelus shop now.
