Another new Whatson print ? , by lha on Apr 10, 2015 12:56:09 GMT 1, Yeah. That looks like a jokey comment. We'll know more when a print turns up with "Help me. Graffiti Prints have me locked up in the back room, signing and tagging prints. Send help, they're going through Getty Images. Tell my family I love them. A/P 1/25" written on it in pencil.
This made me laugh
Surprised a chinook did not slip through with message like that my youngest stamped and numbered them over two days
Seriously though I tell martin to stop working and let's go home most nights when he is over, he works so hard.
I think it's often missed how hard most of these artists work. When in Penang they were up till 4 or 5 am painting pieces for that show.
Festivals and shows don't just happen and fall into place.
I was saying that to them all that people don't see the behind of things, helpers or anything they only see the supposed massive money everyone is making not any hard work, time or pain.
Whatsons off to Jordan for a charity gig then over to tom @ black book for a show in next few months
He has to cut paint etc for all of that he has no assistants or anything
No were just all money grabbers in some people eyes and no matter what I write, it seems perceptions are hard to change
I think I'm honest and a good person who cares and so do the artists I work with and that what's important to me! [/quote][/p]
I'll stick my head above the parapet and say thanks for the input on this thread Giancarlo. You've been about as transparent as you can be and I think people will appreciate that. That probably wont be enough for some of the whingers, bitchers and haters - that says more about them more than anything else. I think constructive criticism is fair enough and folks will have some views about the GP set up that you might not agree with which is fine. It seems as though there's no pleasing some people though whatever you do or say. f**k'em

Another new Whatson print ? , by Deleted on Apr 10, 2015 13:08:00 GMT 1, None of us know what really goes on behind closed doors at Graffiti Prints HQ. Some of us think that they provide a great service and others think they are in it purely for the money.
Whether you like some, none or all of the artists they promote is down to individual taste but without Graffiti Prints some of these artists might not have had such a good platform to show their works.
Also, although I can't go into detail Giancarlo did me a real favour last year and I would not have batted an eyelid if he had charged me £200/£300 for the transaction. However, he asked me to donate the money to some local charities instead and several homeless guys and a food bank benefitted from his generosity.
I'm not saying he is a saint...none of us are.....but I personally think he is one of the good ones and doesn't deserve some of the criticism put his way. Just my opinion though!

Another new Whatson print ? , by thomasmer on Apr 10, 2015 13:13:13 GMT 1, I love making screen prints for artists I even make prints for others that I don't sell as favours. I love this business and we are trying to up the quality more experiment with other artists and continue to push the boundaries of print making We're not a production line were a tiny artisan print company that loves what it does! I have seen others copy us or do things similar yet no one can get up to our printing standards and use of so any colours as there so hard and expensive to make We spend months on files, films and paint selections before we make something we rarely just print straight off files But do you actually make these screen prints yourselves at Graffiti Prints, or just publish them, while using an industrial screen printing factory down the road? I've not seen many process shots of people getting their hands dirty, just your office, thats why I ask.

No it's a dying art that takes 20+ years to perfect when you want to make 10 - 70 colour prints I could not put the time into both.
Were a print house outsourcing prints but to get any printer to make a complicated print like Sandra's you have to have a amazing working relationship with or they would not make it ESP the way we made it!
I use three printers right now depending on the work, one I have worked with for 7 years that works mostly exclusively for me and two other artists so is used to heavy detail and lots of colours.
One I just helped to set up last year made chinook prints, they are for easier things while they gain experience and my Giclee guy who is expensive but very very good!
I am at my printers most days testing and talking shop it's the bit I like the most!
We are going to start to do more process shots and videos etc starting with a print I am making next as I think this is a perfect way to show what we do

Whatsons originality seems to be in putting tags on mundane images. Yes? But the tags thing could be his thing. Like Hirst and spots. You don't need to be the first to do it, just the most prolific. And Whatson's creative output is only limited by the amount of quirky stock images out there in the world. The day he starts taking his own photos as well.......................BOOM! *mega art explosion*
GP, I want to take original photos for Whatson. GET AT ME!

Another new Whatson print ? , by Deleted on Apr 10, 2015 20:16:51 GMT 1, Hey Graffitiprints was born on the back of the market at the time selling very easy to make screen prints 3-5 colours for £150-£500! I wanted to go back to making very fine products as I did in my earlier years of fashion till it went super price pointed Who else offers 15-70 colour screen prints for £150-£250? If I was in London my prices would be double, we continue to try and sell all our prints at fair prices I love making screen prints for artists, I except there not for everyone and people may not like the image etc although some protest to much ESP when my friend whatson Like nuart said he's been at it a long time and I trust his judgment, he's a pleasure to work with and have over at my house, all artists stay at my house eat with us etc. It really is a family thing here you don't see me helping artists buy out there editions paying upfront and using the money I have made to help others not so successful I even make prints for others that I don't sell as favours. I not a manager they tell me what to do not the other way round It's been a crazy non stop journey for us but I took stock over Xmas where the company is now and where we want to go We do shows all over the world and continue at every point to invest back into the artists we work with I was caught out by outis and get that thrown in my face all the time when we had nothing to do with it We don't hype anything ever I think our marketing is lacking in many ways so I don't get the hype comments I laugh hard when I hear us compared to Simon cowell we are so the opposite it's unreal I love this business and we are trying to up the quality more experiment with other artists and continue to push the boundaries of print making We have a vintage linen map we scanned to make a print with free hand spray on top, technically hard to make and re capture the vintage look We traced a massive 5 story mural and layered into a 28 colour screen print which we are making right now It's all about product for us not marketing, seo, fancy website or any hype I have been a member here from day one and eBay before, I like this place and without it may have not started GP It has leaned better or for worse towards investment etc over the years as prices have risen yet if honest the old saying only buy what you like still is the key advice when buying art We're not a production line were a tiny artisan print company that loves what it does! I have seen others copy us or do things similar yet no one can get up to our printing standards and use of so any colours as there so hard and expensive to make We spend months on files, films and paint selections before we make something we rarely just print straight off files I'm not asking to be loved or anything just trying to explain what the company is about as I think it may have got lost Check my original statement back here in oct 2012 and I think we have done what we set out to do! Thats all great.
Do you care how artists arrive at the image they produce or how they get the image to use in their art?
For example Brainwash has been done for plagiarism, so has Fairey. Hirst has been accused of plagiarism but I don't know if he has ever been don for it.
For example if an artist plagiarises someone elses image and you make prints and sell them. Do you leave yourself open in case of any lawsuits?

It's not one of his, but it makes you appreciate how I'm now associating anything tagged, with him. Like when my nephew had Chicken Pox and I instantly thought of Hirst.

Another new Whatson print ? , by alexdb on Apr 11, 2015 11:19:04 GMT 1, What I notice is that if GP receives comments there is always a defence taking place with lots of words. Hence, I don't think any explanation will suffice as it is consumers perception what they think is going on.
For example, for every print release there are 10 different colours, editions, etc etc with different price levels. My perception is that this smells like a money machine. Which is fine, but not my cup of tea. I don't need an explanation that artists are like family or working 24 hours because they like to do so or that there will be lots of shows. I just wonder why it is just not one print run making it an edition instead of editions of editions.

Another new Whatson print ? , by thomasmer on Apr 11, 2015 12:02:23 GMT 1, Well GP obviously wants to make money, and make money from his artists, so he gives the public exactly what they want.
Theres a lot of jealousy even if people wont admit it here, but then there are also a lot of knowlageable people that have followed the street art movement for many years who feel a bit sick about fakers and the talentless making a quick buck. I admit that I just don't like anything that GP releases, but there are a great many that do, best just ignore it.

Of course you might think something is too cheap or expensive, you dont like the image, whatever! but if other people are buying it then maybe its just honestly not your type of thing everyone is different.
Have a nice weekend everyone

Do galleries give the public what they want. Or do galleries steer the buyers (public) towards an artist that they have made a deal with?
I'm sure also that galleries guard and build up client lists and détails and contact clients previous buyers with todays great art piece. Or investment.
It's a business which is fair enough.
How many buyers actually know anything about the artist that made the art that a gallery sells?

If people are fed up with the images they will stop buying it and the artist will move on. If your Banksy you can afford to do what you like when you like, but others need to sell works. Whatson is getting a bashing but other artists are doing the same thing. I'd be more likely to accuse the TMA's and vandals as being repetitive and I would assume he can afford to paint what he wants to rather than being commercially driven.
Just my opinion!
