john grayson | conart[studio], by Con Art Studio on Oct 15, 2015 21:57:35 GMT 1, I may have missed a previous comment on the subject, but can I just ask, how did you decide to combine David Bowie with Star Wars? just thought it would look funny. nothing deep about it. no different than invader combining bowie and the ghosts from pac man.
everyone who stopped at the booth during my signing at NYCC smiled when they looked at it. job accomplished in my mind

john grayson | conart[studio], by Dr Plip on Oct 15, 2015 22:03:20 GMT 1, Cool. I kept trying to shoehorn a Ziggy Star(Wars)dust style pun for it. But there's nothing wrong with a meeting of a couple of icons of popular culture.
And hey, making people smile or laugh is amazing.

john grayson | conart[studio], by otomi on Oct 15, 2015 22:13:25 GMT 1, I just can't believe the amount of star wars themed art and releases lately. Find it perplexing that an "artist" can release a garnished storm trooper, R2D2 or any other icon from the saga and truly think it is in any way original or a new spin so to speak. One only has to scroll down 10 posts or more to see this: Come on people.... I guess that is what is called "urban art" drips, Star Wars, cross, slogan. Not a great slogan "tag fine art", it does explain why no one tagged it.

Would progression now be stenciling a storm trooper on a found oil painting? The regurgitation after this many cycles just looses all flavor whats so ever IMO.

One only has to scroll down 10 posts or more to see this: Come on people.... you do realize i could say the exact same about pretty much 90% of the art, themes, subject matter or method posted here. would you have preferred if i made it from a stencil, covered it with graf tags, put my thumb print on the back of it and then sold it under an alias? or perhaps you would like it better if the image just consisted of the text "troopin sane" in multiple typefaces and multiple color ways and sold for hundreds and hundreds of dollars it's cool that if you don't like it, i won't lose any sleep over it... it's also a good thing that it's not all i do. in fact, the entire reason i made the marylin monroe/stormtrooper prints in the first place was because i was making fun of all the warhol and star wars art that people were doing and i figured i do both in one print to kill two birds at once. i just thought the troopin sane image looked funny and would be a cool thing to release this past may 4th and after i did i was approached about doing prints on wood of it for this years comic con. no worries if you don't like my stuff. thanks for at least looking which is all i could ask for. I actually admire anyone just going out there are creating regardless. My comments are not meant to offend but more of a constructive criticism, which is of course just my point of view, and why I think many artists post pieces, not just for sales but for feedback as well. I see skill with much of your work and feel if there was a bit more thought about the market they are being presented in and what is and has been done elsewhere, this may help a bit. You may have an idea you think is fantastic about stylizing a Kate Moss image and while it's your own idea and vision, something inside should say it's been done to death and will not be received well as a whole. Also could be just me, but I have been bombarded with storm trooper images all year and it's just sad to see them still being used. Some may be being paid to promo the movie but if not there is really no excuse. An artist showed me a storm trooper head a month or two ago with the Guy Fawkes " Vendetta" mask graphics painted on it and asked my opinion. I had to admit it was clever but with the trooper as the base we both agreed it was just an over used icon and he scraped it. Doesn't mean there wouldn't have been people who loved it or bought it... just was a creative choice.
Just voicing an opinion and I feel most here go with the "if it's not praise, just hold your tongue" which I think does the entire art community a disservice. Honestly wish the best for you and your work.
