New to the boards but have been collecting art for many years.
I would be grateful for advice on the value of my Conor Harrington, A Fighter At The Opera.
Size: 42.5" by 47" Year: 2006
The subject matter in Conor Harrington's paintings has evolved since 2006, and collector interest isn't quite the same for his earlier work. It makes valuation comparisons with more recent, similar-sized paintings a little difficult.
That said, have you tried contacting Lazarides Gallery? StolenSpace Gallery may also be able to help with secondary market value.
Out of interest, would you know who the male character in your painting is based on? To me, it looks like a photograph of D*Face could have been used as the source image.
I'm not an expert, but I would guess around £25k based on size?
Although size is a factor you must also consoder era of piece and subject matter although there is strong interest im earlier works for most artists as they transition through their creative career an artist like conor has a lot of subject matter that resembles a study or experimemting etc.. trying diff things finding his way which he has obviously nailed it by now so although its a large piece you cant just say 25k based on size aubject matter may increase or decrease the price drastically, it can be as big or as small as youd like but the subject matter has to be strong and important to time and era and also have appeal. But def a nice piece and looks very similar to Dface for sure, i would contact a few galleries for an appraisel and compare and contrast your responses.
I haven't seen one of these go over £1300 when prices were at their peak. Prices were slightly over 3 times the release price then. Modern Monarchy was released at £350 and Tardis at £375 putting them at £1200 - £1300 at their peak.
I was interested to se if the price had drifted down a little because of the glut of prints which were released last year reducing demand.
There have been EBay ads for silly prices but invariably they never sell. People have been finding it hard to sell Conor's Samson at cost!!
