BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Oct 4, 2015 11:34:15 GMT 1, So what did we all take from Dismaland? And I don't mean Cauty figurines or gravel, I mean did we learn anything from Dismaland?
I learned that children seem to be more open minded and less judgemental than their parents. I witnessed a lot of children being curious about the exhibits, while many of the adults were just there for a laugh, to be at "the place to be" or didn't want to engage with any of the themes/messages of the art at all. Perhaps children just love a theme park more than adults do?
I learned a lot from the people of Guerrilla Island. A warm, friendly and informative bunch of folk. I could have happily spent all day there, chatting with them.
I learned that there's a part of me that really, really likes buying shit. That part needs to be kept in check (or cheque), but in my defence, Banksy told us to buy stuff.
And I'm competitive. I wasted so much money on the rifle stall. Stubborn to the point of idiocy. At one stage, the Dismalite said I was like a wasp banging my head against a window.
I learned I'm not good on merry-go-rounds, but I do love caravans that rotate, and I now have no fear of being in a caravan crash.
I learned that people can be really creative with their eBay listings.
I learned that Amazon are turning their staff into cyborgs.
I learned that it's ok to touch the inside walls of a portaloo, wash your hands and then eat a falafel 3 hours afterwards.
I learned the names of a lot of new (to me) artists. And who the most flippable are.
I learned that Banksy could well be vegetarian. That or you need some sort of special meat licence to sell meat to the public.
I'm sure I learned other things. I'll remember more as time goes by. I probably repressed a few things.

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Oct 4, 2015 11:58:02 GMT 1, So what did we all take from Dismaland? And I don't mean Cauty figurines or gravel, I mean did we learn anything from Dismaland? yes, community and sharing high spirit and loveliness between all sort or kind of people ! There was no difference there between the rich and the poor, the snobbish and the humble, " locals " , tourists, families and collectors . Nobody had judged nobody, only enjoying the pleasure to share art, games and pizza, to discover and to learn. ! Like in an island full of sunshine and kindness. I heard a lot I flagging there ( even on me lol ! When I - already - loose at games, but never mind it was the game ! Thank you Plip for asking !

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Dr Plip on Oct 4, 2015 12:14:07 GMT 1, Yeah, I think these kind of things are good for getting allsorts of people to mix. Like the art forums. You can have hedge fund managers rubbing shoulders with hedge trimmers and gardeners. All joined together by a love of art.

All of the above with the added observation that art and social commentary can work well in a run-down building, art snobs/elite appear to make art accessible to the few but inaccessible to the many whilst, in contrast, a Bristol boy can make art (art event) accessible to the masses. From my observations the very young to the very old enjoyed the event. Lastly, I learnt that high profile art-related events don't have to have an expensive entrance fee.

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by burgerman on Oct 4, 2015 14:41:24 GMT 1, Things I will take away from Banky`s show are:
The Western Mercury referring to Pussy Riot`s performance like the Sex Pistols 100 club gig.
That if your unemployed, it`s best to buy a Cauty Sheild at source.
That after four hours of trying to cart tickets, the shopping cart system does not really work.
Banksy did not hand draw mouse onto tatty slips of paper.
Paco is not just a perfume but a awesome artist.
If you see a guy in a cardboard box over his head, with fragile taped around; it is not someone just been released from hospital it is Banksy`s biggest fan queuing for the masked ball.
That the community can all pull together and get Roy Patrick from France to Blighty without a passport.

BANKSY Curated Show "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Lroy on Oct 4, 2015 17:12:27 GMT 1, First, I learnt, except Dismaland's show hitself, that there were fabulous people and big generosity - who gave me of their firendship, of their time, their money, their art : so that I can cross England. Most are on this forum but on an another forum and Facebook ; thanks to them.
I learnt to move the ass, to prepare a journey and to travel, things which I had not made for 35 years at least! I learnt to walk, and walk, to run , and to anticipate everything, sometimes in the minute. I remembered that the English people are very very pleasant ( and/or so funny) , generous and nice, and that the steack and kidneypie is a wonderful dish. That pubs have the ass much less tight than our sad French cafรฉs. After my departure, I was a bit disappointed and I finally remembered myself of the famous sentence of Rotten: " never trust an hippy " .
On the show itself :
I learnt that Bansky has wonderful tastes in art and that insatiable sound curiosity made us the best known ( artists ) of them. I learnt that Banksy and his team is incredible: to have prepared this amusement park without awakening the slightest suspicion. We talked to this with M. I saw extraordinary artworks and felt in love with this dragoon ( more than a snake ) truck. I learnt that my French accent maybe harmed me, that I still spoke badly, and that I had no chance to win at one of these games , apart by hurting my hand with a riffle, lol!
I squeezed the hand to Darren Cullen, made a selfie with De La Soul and a singer of the Pussy riot (incredible show!), I did not recognize Damon Albarn nevertheless by my side.
I remembered that I could not be everywhere, that I would have wanted to be more with some of the forum when other "local" friends and styreet-artists ( I did not say vandal, lol - Hi Dan, H i Daren ) , gave me all their friendship, until love ! I never had hugs in my life : that's great for the chest and for the mind. Gimme love I will give you my love too.
I discovered a friend of the forum who liked the art for art's sake and who has a knowledge, an intelligence and an incredible vista on the art, artists and the artworks!
Especially, what it is necessary to retain of Dismaland, it is that 80 % of the visitors had come there, as we go to an amusement park before any, in family, and did not even know Banksy or his artworks (incredible but true!). I learnt again the freedom and the exile, that the English people liked their youth and to have good laugh.
I forgot to speak about the VIPEE room, incredibles toiletts, witht a queue as big as a in Harrods sales, where 2 girls and a man had the same pee ( ? ) in the same loo ( men were per 6, what a mess, I could not piss ! )
Yes a bit of Glatonsbury festival there, I guess...
edit : I learned that Mickey mouse has ears, to like them, I did not remember by the past any comics by Disney, apart the castle logo ( the comics and movies were bo boring )

I believe the Dismal Stewards were issued with black paisley bandanas to wear during the masked ball. Some visitors ended up with them as well. I don't think their design was exclusive to the event though and if you do an eBay search for "black paisley bandana", they should come up.
But, if anyone's after a genuine Dismaland one, with authentic Dismal Steward saliva (and tears and alcohol) on it, there are 2 currently listed on eBay.
Once they perfect cheap cloning/3D printing, you could have your own Dismal Steward.
