Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Ruggs on Oct 16, 2015 8:48:29 GMT 1, That's a nice piece. Someone got that for a great price considering what signed paper editions are realising these days. Those marks wouldn't bother me a jot. I wouldn't risk restoration anyway through fear that someone one day would tell me that all the grubby marks were intentional.

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Harveyn on Oct 16, 2015 8:52:18 GMT 1, I cannot believe someone would have been as lazy as this or ill advised with respect to getting this professionally cleaned. It will look fantastic when its done. They have lost out by £20/40k IMO minimum.
Whoever bought this got a real bargain, provided the PC is confirmed and the question over open edition does not throw anything up.
I would have bought it 10x over at this price.

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Dr Plip on Oct 16, 2015 9:02:41 GMT 1, It looks like something Banksy's had knocking around on his studio floor. Anyone know the seller? And like Harveyn said, unless they needed money quickly, I'm surprised the auction house didn't advise them to have it cleaned first.

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Deleted on Oct 16, 2015 9:02:40 GMT 1, What a buy this was! Although one sale doesn't make a market price it illustrates how crazy many of the Banksy prices for prints have become and particularly on here.. I'd rather have this over any print but I'm still around £37k short.

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Shoot Again on Oct 16, 2015 9:27:11 GMT 1, Having visited Phillips where that piece was displayed for a few days, I'm honestly NOT surprised it didn't fetch more when you factor in how small and average it looked like, hanging side by side to MUCH better / more appealing artworks. I love Banksy and own some so not trying to devaluate his Art but it's a good reminder of how much (more) great Art there is out there and people in the room that day (of the auction) obviously put their money elsewhere. Poor condition was part of the explanation but the Auction it was part of is another IMHO ;-)

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Deleted on Oct 16, 2015 9:37:59 GMT 1, Francis bacons paintings had dirty marks and fingerprints etc on them.
It's what made them Bacons and the painting of the Elephant is good in the condition it's in.
As for prices at auction.
It's a fickle business and cannot guarantee the sale on any given day.
Was it bought in?
Did Dismaland increase or decrease the value of Banksy art?

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by Ruggs on Oct 16, 2015 11:15:11 GMT 1, I'm sure if Banksy/POW had published HW as a single colour signed and unsigned edition that would be up there with the current values of the GWRB signed and unsigned.

Banksy HW only make £37,500 at Phillips today****, by covertshadowops on Oct 16, 2015 21:48:51 GMT 1, It hammered at £30k
Plus 25% = £7500 with 20% vat on that at £1500... So becomes £39k
And then there's artist resale at 4% on the hammer price which is £1200
Total is actually £40,200 to pay for it..... Just saying....
