Dolk • Burger King • King Charles, by mose on May 27, 2006 2:24:56 GMT 1, Second rate Banksy / Banksy ideas thief anyone?
i quite enjoy what i've seen of his work and actually like Che quite a bit more than anything Banksy has come out with in a while...
besides, everyone is influenced by/borrows from/steals from everyone else.
Banksy isn't the most original of artists himself.....very good, but not mindblowingly original.

Alright, quotes like that are where art interest stops and religious fervor begins.
Just for the record, are there any Banksy works, quotes, or artwork concepts that HE hasn't just blatantly lifted or simply outright plagiarized from others himself?
Feel free to insert other appropriate names in the proper spaces; "Oh, Kate Moss was merely just inspired by art by Warhol, but Dolk is simply a Banksy thief with second rate ripoffs like Che.
Have fun with this game, as you will never run out of appropriate hypocritical statements like that in defense of your new messiah.
Now watch the holy war begin.

Hi gm, I think this really misses the point, not only about a genre based on street art but also about art in general. If all work was based on what it looked like in yer living room we'd still be stuck with 'Constable' and not 'Rude Copper'... I agree that some of Dolk's work is still a little immature and without depth (StarWars etc), but I think the 'Che' piece is genius..he's a young artist with a lot of talent who I'm sure will produce some memorable works in the future.

Hi Nu,
How old is Mr Dolk? any idea?
Yeah, I think he is certainly on the right track with his work, and I'm keen to see what he comes up with next

Dolk • Burger King • King Charles, by gm on May 27, 2006 12:41:52 GMT 1, The Che's OK, but not OK enough for me to want it on my wall. The StarWars things just leave me cold. Hi gm, I think this really misses the point, not only about a genre based on street art but also about art in general.
Sorry, I thought we were talking about Dolk in particular rather than art in general. Of the POW prints, I won't be buying any because I don't like them enough. What's wrong with that? How am I missing any point? I'm not into "investment art" I only buy what I like, and what I want to look at day after day.
That theory only works if everybody likes and dislikes the same things all the time.
Art, like language, architecture, etc etc evolves. It's not static, and never should be. Just because I PERSONALLY don't like something, doesn't mean I'm dissing it, just that I PERSONALLY don't like it.
I wouldn't want a Constable either.
I think the StarWars pieces are very witty, they just do nothing for me. Neither do the movies. And I don't doubt Dolk's vision/talent, or that his work will evolve as he gains more life experience. Maybe I'll like one of his future pieces enough to want to own one, but at the moment...

Yeah, I think he is certainly on the right track with his work, and I'm keen to see what he comes up with next judging by his subject matter i would say about 16 - am i close? I mean seriously how can Che of all the tacky tenth rate 'my first stencil' street stencil / and souvenir shop over milked merchandise subject matters be rated - urgh it makes me cringe i'm embarrassed for it, and can't bring myself to understand why someone could waste their debut onto the pow site with such weak material. I loose faith in the members of this forum who have made such purchases. Since i'm in a warbling opinionated mood - it's all about a unique style, and subject matter is a large part of that - how can a stencil of che help you define a style for yourself!? When art integrates commercial subjects i find it hard to appreciate it as 'art' - i mean that might explain why napalm (amongst other reasons) is my least favourite banksy and why i would never buy a jamie hewlett - it's just too related to the gorrillaz and therefore could never be open to interpretation as i think art should. Dolk's work states the obvious if you sum up pow as offering art for the star wars generation.
I really think you've missed the point with the 'che' print.. or got the point of the old souveneir material and missinterpreted this as part of that tradition. For me this is the ultimate comment and the death of the Che image.. it simply cannot go any further.. unless you have this image made into a t-shirt and photgraph someone wearing it, and on it runs into infinity....that's the point of the image.
