tips wanted!, by james10 on Dec 9, 2015 21:53:19 GMT 1, hi, Iโm new to the forum.
I like urban art very much, but i never bought any. Iโd like to start collecting urban art now, so Iโm going to need your advices here on some beautiful, signed and not very expensive pieces. Not that difficult, right?
I just got a new apartment, so at the moment Iโm not financially wealthy but I have a lot of empty walls! So far (beside Banksy, of course) my favorites artists are kunstrasen, Dolk, Pose, Oliver Jeffers, whatson โ and many more. Do you have suggestions or tips about where I could start from?
Thanks Andrea

tips wanted!, by james10 on Dec 9, 2015 22:29:10 GMT 1, yeah i know, but the fact is that i'm new to this, so i don't really know how this works
for example i'd love to have a kunstrasen canvas, but all i can find are signed editions. where you normally get the chance to buy one?
what about other artists that are "more expensive" like pose or ben eine? I know i cant afford originals.. you think a signed limited edition is not worth it?

a good source for kunstrasen originals is castle gallery ni (andy). check ebay, too. there are currently 1-2 available. i would suggest you the older "fighting the blank canvas". his first "cut/fencer" work ! that's only my opinion...

tips wanted!, by Sliding on the Walls on Dec 9, 2015 22:45:07 GMT 1, Buy what you like, not what galleries or the status quo tell you what to like.
Remember that to get a picture framed costs money too, so your ยฃ150 print may end up costing you ยฃ300+
Some art will probably not stand the test of time so be aware of fads, and your own tastes which will change as you develop your knowledge of the subject.
If you are not looking for investment art then just get prints, or better still print your own images onto paper or canvas from .jpgs on the interwebs!

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you want to buy something because everyone else is saying it's good. It's your wall it will go on, and once in your apartment, only you will see the beauty (or mistake) that you made, so buy what you really like and not what the ยฃยฃยฃยฃ say, it's art, should make you happy to look at not worried that you can afford it. Good luck, welcome to the spiral.

tips wanted!, by Deleted on Dec 9, 2015 23:22:38 GMT 1, One tip is don't believe the hype.
Including some of the orchestrated hype on this forum.
Flippers and galleries use the forum/s to sell for profit.
If you want a print or art by an artist and miss out. Dont panic as some of the artists are churning out editions to feed the bubble.
Better to buy an original than a print if both are the same money.
I wouldn't judge urban art by the high prices that Banksy fetches at auction.
No one knows who bought the art, whether it was bid up to achieve a record price or if it was bought in by the auction house.
Do your own research.
If you have a good eye for whats "urban" you can pick up bargains in provincial and small auction houses.
Or even hit the flea markets car boot sales as you never know what can be found and if you find a nice designer coffee table or lamp etc. You could probably swap it on this forum to a collector for a very nice print.

It's easy, especially in the beginning, to get wrapped up in the latest hyped print release and end up with a portfolio full of unframed prints because framing is expensive. Some save for an entire year for that one special original. Not demeaning prints, just originals, even HPM are really nice.

tips wanted!, by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Dec 9, 2015 23:36:30 GMT 1, The ยฃ50 art thread and the Amateur (Your own work) art thread are great places to find new artists and good affordable stuff, low edition canvases, prints and originals. Who knows these may be the stars of the future - Opie, Aza, Pogo, Zir0 all very talented folk and there are plenty of others that I can't think of right now. Keep your eyes out for release dates and sign up to alerts at the main galleries - then join the F5 Bunfight for a print at the point of release, this is usually the cheapest time to buy the print but you can get lucky as people offer stuff up at cost or near cost quite frequently on here.

But being pretty new like yourself, I'd recommend holding back on buying much just now. Just enjoy the website for a couple of months, read and learn loads from the other members and then buy with confidence knowing that you're making the right decision. Ask loads of questions about artists and works as most people on here are only too happy to share their knowledge.

Iโve been reading this forum for almost two months now, but only a few days ago I decided to be active introducing myself with this other thread.
Thanks to you guys I have a better idea on what I will do and how my battle plan is going to be, especially now that the โIโm buying it allโ phase is fortunately gone. So Iโm going to focus on originals and HPM, when affordable
bustart I recognized you from your beautiful icon image. Let me tell you I really like your art! I was checking your website a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. Iโll follow you and maybe Iโll try to get one of your canvases in the next future.. (as said before, those are temporarily out of my budget)
snoozy it is a spiral indeed.. Basically I spent a long time getting out of facebook, then I found this forum and is probably worse than it
thanks to you all!

Have a look at my page as I have these available at the moment:
I think these are great value considering the amount of hours that go into producing them, assuming you like the image of course

If you really like a new artist you can contact them direct and they may do you a nice deal. Subscribe to as many newsletters of most street artists so that you can be informed on what is going and what going to be released.
You will always be jealous of what someone owns that you can't afford, and unfortunately you have to live with (That blasted Stik canvass. My Cyber). Do not get caught up in the hype, as most people that Hype own pieces by the artist, so are just trying to push prices up. As a newbie don't buy because everyone else is buying unless you love the image.
You will be exposed to so much in a little time and it can become quite addictive. There are also shows to attend and private views depending on where you are. And also check out the London Street art thread to see new work thats going on outside. Always lots of festivals worth going to as well. Oh it helps to have fast internet.
The most crucial thing to remember is don't forget your family, if this hobbie gets addictive. The art police can become the art peace, if you understand that family come first.

Original art I consider excellant for low prices and a long term investment from artists on this forum.
Is anything from Kobron and the ceramics will be changing hands for higher prices in the future plus ceramics last for centuries too.
Anything from Nordicstar who makes unique images and art and is affordable and also accepts chochas as payment.
Anything from Monisha Bernice Rockett who makes stunning paintings.
