Fauntleroy Snooty, by mmmike on Jan 10, 2016 7:08:18 GMT 1, Really? Is street art dead? Has it come to this? Terrible just terrible. If history remembers street art this likely will be remembered either as the forgotten years or the decline and ultimate death of street art. I'm hoping it isn't the end. There has to be some real artists out there with talent who are not selling anything? PLEASE!

Fauntleroy Snooty, by iamzero on Jan 10, 2016 12:00:41 GMT 1, I was given a packet of the goodies he handed out at the Stik show and somehow it got mixed up with a pile of 'stuff to put in the garden burner'... Stuff like the stuff that comes the your letter box and can't be arsed to shred. I threw a bunch of stuff on and didn't see it until it was too late and unable to a rescue. Not a very interesting story but thought I'd share it. I dread to think if there was anything else I wanted to keep in there?

To be fair I would say that putting together some freebies and travelling 100 miles to hand them out in a queue then travelling 100 miles home again is a pretty decent effort. Unless he was there for a Stik print anyway. Had I been in that queue I'm sure I would have appreciated it though regardless of whether I liked them or not.

Hahahahahahaha ............ I'm just joking Alec, please don't sue me or anything.

... but maybe add punctuation. I apologise for sounding like an ageing Eton housemaster, but if you want strangers to read something you might consider putting a tiny amount of effort into making it readable. #dismounts high horse#

Fauntleroy Snooty, by Dr Plip on Jan 27, 2016 13:32:09 GMT 1, Nothing to do with Fauntleroy Snooty, but I really HATED Lord Snooty when I was younger. DETESTED is a better word. LOATHED. I was more of a Roger The Dodger, X-Ray Specs, Tom Thug, kind of reader.
I think it's a class thing? Stems from my younger self being raised in poverty and my parents were both Foxes.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of Fauntleroy's paintings and TV appearances.

Fauntleroy Snooty, by Hairbland on Jan 27, 2016 18:47:10 GMT 1, In one way it proves how little skill and effort one needs these days to get ones name out there. I'd have to disagree with this, I think quite a bit of effort went into this, the thought process and working out the details of how to come up with a "package" that will appeal to the ever more popular urban art scene. The fact that Ikea, Converse, Dos XX and more have glommed onto this scene shows what advertisers' research is pointing out, that this edgy street art thing connects with the kids.
This ticks off many boxes, from the Banksy "anonymity" to riffing on the rich.
Some will be inspired by this, and others will try to come up with a schtick that sells. This Snooty thing has obviously been thought through from top to bottom. The name is posh, the character's inspiration well known, and Lord Snooty the obvious inspiration.
Or Lord Snooty lll: Beano has brought back a character called Lord Snooty III. He is a repulsive boy who wallows in wealth, hits his butler and says things like โI was watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire? to laugh at the poor.โ
While being called a "hater" would of course be the clichรฉd knee-jerk response, the fact that people are thinking up concepts to cash in without paying dues is really a shining example of modern capitalism at work, thus making this work rather ironic.
Alec Monopoly's dad was a music marketing executive - SR VP of Marketing at Columbia Records, followed by a long career in artist mgt, including the Pet Shop Boys. He taught Alec well with regards to making a whole lotta something out of a whole lotta nothing. And it worked.
Those with some basic art skills and a good brain looking to make a quick buck would be foolish to not want to achieve the same thing...fancy parties, fancy cars, fancy girls. No different than being a banker - also ironic.
So maybe this all works.
