Hong Kong , by Dan Kitchener on Jan 24, 2016 6:14:24 GMT 1, So here's my first Hong Kong inspired painting! It takes a while to get to grips with the mood, atmosphere, colouring and palette of a new city. Even though this is a day scene and not my more regular night scenes ( which will come, don't worry! ) theres something very beautiful about the streets around Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Bustling, busy, signs, neon, people, umbrellas, cables and chaos, it had a real intensity and complex architecture, that to me is unique and something i wanted to capture!

Hong Kong , by 11 on Feb 23, 2016 18:52:52 GMT 1, I love these and thought the first couple were overlaid on top of photos - but I am confused, are they painted with brush and canvas or painted on a tablet....if not what is the tablet for ?

Hong Kong , by Dan Kitchener on Feb 24, 2016 9:38:52 GMT 1, No, they are not overlaid photos, I am an by heart an illustrator and practice my drawing daily. I have a totally blank canvas and then paint them by eye, no corners cut , just pure life drawing essentially...my work is all about the craft and process and the final result, not just the final image. There is absolutely no benefit at all to tracing photos or using photo manipulation, it doesn't' advance the learning process, which is a constant and never ending factor in my work, i am always trying to learn and push myself creatively. Tracing, using stencils, projectors all remove a major factor in creating art in my opinion, and just lead to diluted, and in my opinion soulless art. Creating work from scratch, all aspects is vital to what i do.
They are digitally painted using a wacom tablet. It's just a tool, its the same as using a paint brush or pen in real life, although with the benefit of being able to undo!

'Traders' - My first major illustration from 'Future Hong Kong' - Showing the bustling and busy city port of 'FHK', with the deadly but beautiful female assassins watching over, guarding the traders. It's also the first image introducing my new model collaboration with the stunning Cindi Li from Hong Kong. This image is based on shots from a shoot we worked on collaboratively, with a great team from HK - ( Photographer: Untouchable Productions - Ben Siu / Assistant: Zachary Ip, Edward Cheung, Fred Cheung, Hoi Pang Tse / Hair Stylist: George Siu / MUA: Yvonne Au )
