I was listening to a report about this. I was lost in the first sentence, when they used the term "space time". I understand both of those words in isolation. But used together, I'm clueless.

Thank you. Hmm. So what's space-time?

isn't it?

Agreed. Its a great scientific discovery...but so far beyond my realm of understanding that I can't quantify how great...just relying on other people to tell me it is.

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by Deleted on Feb 12, 2016 14:26:10 GMT 1, I was reading Brian Greene's book "The Fabric of the Cosmos" years ago. Some of it was way above my head, but it was enjoyable. Then the cat threw up on it and I never finished it.

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by Dr Plip on Feb 12, 2016 15:35:58 GMT 1, Do you ever find yourself in the middle of the night, standing in the neighbour's backyard, looking up at the vastness of infinite space? Marvelling at all the stars, while appreciating just how insignificant we are to the universe. We are nothing to the universe. And yet our problems, our worries and our suffering seem so big.
We're alone in a universe that either doesn't know we're here or doesn't care. And the universe is such a volatile place, on a scale that is so epic. And we are so fragile. All we really have is each other. We should look out for one another.
That's why I hang out in my neighbour's backyard.

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by Deleted on Feb 12, 2016 15:41:32 GMT 1, Dr Plip Yes, but then I begin to wonder what would the universe be without consciousness to interpret it the way we do. Would it just be waves, frequencies, data? Then my head begins to hurt.

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by Dr Plip on Feb 12, 2016 15:42:20 GMT 1, Humans are so smart. Dinosaurs were around for hundreds of millions of years and they didn't have a space program or a large hadron collider.
And do you think plants know we're here?

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by vernaxley on Feb 16, 2016 12:17:20 GMT 1, so far beyond my realm of understanding that I can't quantify how great...just relying on other people to tell me it is. Art and science are clearly bedfellows as this also defines how the upper echelons of the artworld work.

Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein’s Theory, by quayesy on Feb 16, 2016 12:48:17 GMT 1, So true!
I'm lucky enough to have galleries on my doorstep and sometimes I walk around wondering why people are in here when I've seen so many things I prefer on walls nearby.
