The Biggest Missed Opportunity For Art Market Transparency , by Black Apple Art on Feb 16, 2016 19:03:51 GMT 1, The Biggest Missed Opportunity for Greater Art Market Transparency in 100 Years
A sad day for the art market indeed and not much different than the massive fines and under table deals of the pharmaceutical and financial markets that go on regularly.
"The number of forgeries on the market is unknown, but some experts have opined that as much as half the market is comprised of forged art" -
Quote from this article above but in a segment I posted awhile back from one of the top forensic art authenticators interviewed by 60 minutes, he stated over 98% of the pieces that come by him are fakes! Mind you these are world renowned galleries, museums and dealers that can even afford to go to this expert and after hearing their results they just proceed as if they never even got the news. The piece was actually done about the famous forger Wolfgang Beltracchi who still has at least 300 forgeries circulating amongst the world's top museums, galleries and auction houses. Posted below as well.
