Santas Ghetto = Bethlehem, by arcam on Dec 7, 2007 15:53:16 GMT 1, Just wondering how substantial the roumer of a Banksy release in a giclee form are??? reason being - the only possible reason for a giclee release would be to produce a huge amount at ease in a short amount of time....ie. unlimited or extremely large edition??? just speculating! It will be a large edition, I am sure of that. As for it being a Giclee, where did that rumour come from? Personally I don't care as done right Giclee's can be stunning.

Completley agree Arcam, The recent Ian Francis BLK MRKT prints being the proof.....

Santas Ghetto = Bethlehem, by stereoface on Dec 7, 2007 16:10:20 GMT 1, I dont own any giclee prints. I would like to be an owner of the Ian Francis ones but that is a different story. It does seem, in my opinion, that giclee is becoming a more common way to create the prints. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just a construct of my imagination?

Stop this rumour nonsense, I mentioned once at the beginning of the week about the Dove canvas being reproduced as a giclee and it's taken a life of it's own since then, in spite of me denying any knowledge or insider info.
I've since seen photo's of the street dove and that could (as Pezlow says) easily be reproduced as a screen print.
Having said all that, who's to say it will ever be made into a print run of any kind, plenty of Banksy originals and street pieces never make it to print, all pure speculation.

I guess, having never seen one up close, I worry that giclee would come off similar to an offset print and look cheap. I am not trying to disparage the giclee medium. Just with never having seen one in person that is my worry. It is one of the reasons I havent purchased an Audrey Kawasaki print yet. I know this probably isnt the right thread for this discussion but ... How would you say giclee compares to screenprinting and offset printing.

Nothing like screenprinting but very similar and could be worse than offset litho.

No, because giclees are printed on (generally) very nice art paper.

I know, mad.
Let's get it back on topic, this print medium business has been discussed at length before, we've all got our personal opinions.
I'd be VERY surprised if they open their online shop late today, I think they've got better things to do on a Friday evening.
