Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by Daniel Silk on May 10, 2016 13:19:29 GMT 1, I think some people are certainly. Its a bit like the discussion in a thread a few weeks back about how some people stick to a music style from when they were young, and other move with the times. What I mean is that some have stuck with Artists from maybe 10 years ago, but are not so interested in the new talent. So the scene changes with some being satisfied with the Art collection they already have, and move onto new things away from Urban Art, while others enjoy the evolution in Art and are interested to see whats next

True, also maybe the public are exposed to Art more now than maybe just 5 years ago, so expect much more.

You may buy less but the pieces that you buy are more like canvases or rarer prints.

Once you're fed up with one thing there is another one popping up, more related to your current/new taste... I have been following this movement for about ten years now and I have followed different artists and styles along these years, and I guess it will keep changing all the time in the future...

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by kel on May 10, 2016 14:45:41 GMT 1, A good question which does get asked now and again on here and always throws up good discussions. I don't think it has had its day but do think it has lost its edge. Reminds me of the late 70s and 80s when underground dance music was buzzing as it was fresh, new and totally different from the norm. People and record companies hated it but as soon as they could see the ยฃ/$ sign views started to change and everything started to get branded as Dance. Very similar to Street Art it got swallowed up by those that could see the monetary gain to be made out of it and now everything seems to be classed as Urban Art. Donโt get me wrong there are still hundreds of Artists that are still throwing their works up on the street for all to see and that will never change. To answer your question though. Yes I am getting bored with Urban Art and I can see that in my buying. Donโt get me wrong the odd piece of Urban Art still gets bought. But when I look and question at how people throw away 4K for a matchstick man or 1.5k for a woman with a comic on her face then I know I am getting bored with it.

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by Feral Things on May 10, 2016 14:46:50 GMT 1, I originally got into strรฉet art and graffiti in about 1999 seeing Bรกnksyโs work around Bristol and Dizmโs tracksides in the North East and Iโve just grown to love the art more and more over that period. Invadรฉrโs mosaics have become an intrinsic part of our cities, Taps and Moses are reinventing train painting, Swoonโs work constantly makes me reassess how I live my life and Sรญckboyโs installations in his show last week gave me a real buzz. Unfortunately, this forum presents quite a skewed picture of strรฉet art and graffiti. For whatever reason, an increasing number of posts are about the work of a small number of artists who, by any objective assessment, have very little aesthetic or conceptual merit. Personally, I think strรฉet art is just as funny, beautiful and thought-provoking as ever; itโs just unfortunate that all the good stuff is drowned out on here.

Then maybe it won't be so boring then.
What I have to write 30 words before I can post now.

Its fun and I am just trying to figure out which way to go with this fun.

Without traditional skill sets theyll struggle to adapt and move out of the general gimmick that got them recognized. There is some real talent in the genre and great work but a lot of fakes and rubbish

A friend of mine asked me the other day "whatever happened to Mantis" Yeah, so many really promising Artists over the years that never seemed to reach their full potential. Some that made so great Original Art when the first appeared on the scene, and then went a bit commercial and sort of lost their style and image. Maybe it's the difference between what we want and what the Artists want to be

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by Hairbland on May 10, 2016 19:10:33 GMT 1, I saw tons of great Urban Art on the streets of Oaxaca in February.
Maybe because of a happening scene not reading influenced by or copying blogs and other mainstream outlets.
Real.

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on May 10, 2016 23:08:26 GMT 1, It's all about big money. That German Banksy show the other day was just terrible, sad, cringeworthy to watch. So many shows purely on Banksy as he seems to be the only one worth investing in to make money. And it's all about the money whether your rich or like us poor folk on here. Every one is flipping somewhere down the line.. Just the way it is, not just art.. vintage cars, wine, watches etc..
Laz now having a billionaire partner and new gallery, the rich will be getting drawn in paying s**t loads for originals from hyped up artists. Then the majority on here will be buying the limited prints from the hyped artist hoping to flip, then the value goes down and they sell as 'their wife doesn't like the image'..
You still get little gems like up fest and the car boot sale etc.. But for me I am not bored of urban art just appreciating and researching more contporay works by older artists.

Urban art, whatever art, if it does something intangible to you, get it, surround yourself with things that 'quicken your heart'

Having said that, new members with little to no knowledge of these tropes replace the gone members and the circle goes around again. Although it's slightly smaller and less passionate each time it happens ....

Anyone else getting bored by urban art?, by samfrost on May 11, 2016 1:36:40 GMT 1, It has become incredibly derivative. Hearts, rainbows, buffs, spray cans and hit you over the head sophomoric social commentary. The best years are behind us in the "scene". The scene has shifted IMO and it will be interesting to see how Banksy evolves, along with his disciples. The only new stuff that gets me excited these days is some stuff from Arsham and Pejac...but not sure how urban art it is anymore. Just the natural evolution of movements.
