JamesOliverArt, by James Oliver Art on Jul 28, 2016 11:49:09 GMT 1, Hello!
Just introducing myself and what I do.
Studied mid 90's, kicked out of the RCA for poor attendance and general subversion, became a nurse...
I continued to paint but got properly back into it four years ago, thanks to the power of social media (and to an extent my own skill I like to believe) work started selling and exhibitions arose. I've just show at Moosey Galleries 'Art In My Mouth 3' in Norwich, earlier in the year had a solo show in Croydon and a wall next to Rise gallery, end of August I'm off to Germany for my second show there - this time at the wonderful Oberfett gallery in Hamburg.
I mainly paint, adapting vintage paintings (as many do) has been a big seller, I also do photomontage, dioramas, whatever takes my fancy!
Always churning out stuff (see www.jamesoliverart.net or James Oliver Art on Facebook), here be some examples - Enjoy, feedback welcomed and chat soon.
Thankingyou.
Adapted painting - Multicolor1
Adapted print - Xoniuqe (shown at Art In My Mouth 3)
Adapted portraits...
Adapted pieces on show - Rainbow Entity Project 1.
Show in Teddington last year.
Acrylic painting - Earthbase 4000.

Section from recent Croydon show...
'Big Red' In Ulm, Germany.
That'll do for now x

Great work there. Nice and different. What inspired your style?
As one who doesn't have any great/invested interest in art in general (I'm admittedly bit of a Raushenburg fan) I guess inspiration stems mostly from stuff like lego, vector graphics and particular film scenes (especially Kubricks work). The styles I have have slowly developed since childhood and I feel are best suited to the ideas I am trying to put across - I aim to produce epicness in the simplest way possible, large abstract figures in simple landscapes, old testament style happenings (creation and destruction), themes that make one go 'oooohhh'. If i was a musician I'd be writing 'Tubular bell's type pieces... Does that make sense?

JamesOliverArt, by Deleted on Aug 2, 2016 8:29:26 GMT 1, Here's a geek question I'm sure everyone is wanting to know the answer to. How do you get such clean straight lines? What tape/paint are you using?

Hi Stender Mostly using common masking tape though advancing to painters masking tape (don't get much for your money, they sell it in Whsmiths) I usually stick paper underneath the tape so only a couple of mms sticks to the paintings in order to avoid lift, especially if I'm putting acrylics on old oil paintings. Use standard acrylic paints, mostly pebeo or daler rowney, got some paintings that are 20 years old and still look fresh! With bigger paintings I just bulk out paints with Pva. Once done, edges if needed are tidied up with a scalpel, sometimes I outline with sharpie pens...

JamesOliverArt, by James Oliver Art on Sept 1, 2016 21:28:42 GMT 1, I've done some counting. I thought I'd done about 60-70 of these 'Entity/adapted painting' pieces over the last three and a half years, I've actually done 91! I only have a couple left in the house which means (apart from a couple which have for whatever reason been destroyed) all the rest are settled in new homes and galleries across the world. I'm going to stop at 100. This is #92/100 and it's big (61x78cms) - It is acrylic, sharpie pen and mixed media on a vintage (1980) framed oil painting. It will be the last time the 'Dark Entity aka Grim' appears on its own in a piece - I'm calling this one 'The Last Hunt'. It is available for sale.

I'm always doing other (non Entity) pieces so no problem moving on, as mentioned before, I want to keep these pieces fresh and collectable, don't want to milk them dry! Saying that, I'm in negotiations with a German artist and gallery that want to turn the figures into large scale sculptural pieces so I may (for a small fee or future %) hand over control of them to someone else who can do stuff with them I can't...

tullyart • yes this peice is still available - will take a reasonble offer ?
reg • Would love to know what comes first though, the canvas or the idea. He could have waited years for a canvas like this to appear.
reg • Think you're joining too many dots tbh. More likely a stoneage man using 21st century methods to put back the damage done by the modern custodians of the planet.
Jeezuz Jones Snr • I created a thread called 'Art market current prices'? Can anyone see it? I can only see it when logged in. Silky deleted it?
reg • Oh deary deary me. This poor landlord really doesn't know what they're doing do they? That frame has already compromised the image, I feel for them, in a way because everything about this has been hamfisted and delayed.
reg • Took a long time imo. Should've been fenced off on Monday, still no perspex over the main image. Idiot landlord.
