can we dispel the notion that lower print # means anything?, by honestcrooks on Nov 1, 2016 12:14:04 GMT 1, When a set of prints is released together, for me it feels "better" if they have matching numbers. Maybe it's a tad of OCD that kicks in, but it feels that they "belong" together this way. I don't think I'd pay a lot more for a matching numbers set, but if I was looking for a particular set and they would match, I'd bite bullet a but quicker I think :-) Oh, and I'm also a sucker for AP's. :-D

can we dispel the notion that lower print # means anything?, by Lroy on Nov 1, 2016 19:29:26 GMT 1, This thread is a nonsense , or we need to be doctor in an university , i do not understand anything ! Why ? #translation I have some formal training in printmaking so sorry if what I said sounds cryptic but what you should get out of this thread is that if someone tries to sell you a print and says it is worth more because of the number, you should be very skeptical of the print and or person selling it.ย But of course if you have a fetish for particular numbers then so be it. No one will stop you from giving more of your money away. thank you for your answer. ... well... :-)

can we dispel the notion that lower print # means anything?, by nrgball on Nov 1, 2016 23:41:00 GMT 1, For certain methods of printing, it used to be that lower number prints were prized. In tne example of screen printing, the logic being that the screen would get clogged over time and therefore the image lose definition. I imagine though that printing techniques have improved and this is no longer the case. BTW - to the OP, this question crops up on here every couple of years or so. There are bound to be a few threads on it if you do a search.
Traditional lithographs and copper etchings will make about 100 prints before the quality of the printing wears away. There is certainly a premium given to lower numbers in these styles.
