Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by Matt on Nov 13, 2016 10:38:13 GMT 1, Although this eBay user was unethical, calling them out with a "beware" thread is perhaps a bit harsh. Personally, that title in my view is really for fraud or criminal activity rather than a skewed moral compass.
Would tend to agree. There is no fraud here, and chancers such as this seller are a dime a dozen on that website
If you are buying on eBay, as has been mentioned, it is a bit of a dog eat dog thing, so nothing new there...don't get disappointed when it goes pear shaped, consider that the norm.
If you are selling, best to know exactly what is protected by eBay and PayPal, what is not, look for verified addresses, buyer history and bidding activity, bail at the first sign of anything fishy, and pray.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by iamzero on Nov 13, 2016 11:09:09 GMT 1, Happens all the time. I've bid on many Charming Baker items from two users that constantly back out of deals. Only to find the same prices reappear several weeks later. Very poor form.

Personally, that title in my view is really for fraud or criminal activity rather than a skewed moral compass. I agree, it is absolutely unethical but I would also avoid linking it to fraud. Not too long ago, I bought an Invader print from a member of this forum at a very reasonable price. Transaction was made via paypal, but suddenly the transaction was returned and the member wrote me, that the print got damaged when wrapping it for transportation. Even though I have serious doubt about that story, I have no evidence and would rather stay away from publicly pointing out on this member. Nevertheless, I hate these fairy tales that come along with this. I bought a Meadow and question myself, why anybody owning it should have an interest to keep prices of other Pejac prints at a low level.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by Happy Shopper on Nov 14, 2016 10:51:25 GMT 1, As far as I can tell no one lost out here. Yeah, it's disappointing, but this is not a massive issue worth crying over. It's against eBay rules, but in reality you can't force someone to sell something to you.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by oxfordwelshchap on Nov 14, 2016 17:36:46 GMT 1, Yes, I emailed the seller during the sale to ask some information on this piece but she was extra-ordinarily rude so I decided not to bid on it. She is definitely a member on here as part of her rant she decided to look up my messaging history. I suggested to PM me to continue the 'chat' but she refused as I suspect she wanted to keep hidden. I strongly suggest avoid this person in the future.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by londonfx on Nov 14, 2016 21:40:08 GMT 1, I've never mentioned anything about fraud. As my money was refunded, no fraud was committed.
I guess it was just immoral. I would have loved the seller to honour the transaction and send me the print. But they didn't. My money was refunded and that was that.
Was just flagging it up with people for their reference.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by natstan on Nov 15, 2016 3:09:39 GMT 1, My guess is she is not doing this for every print that she is selling but she probably didn't realise the possibility of few buyers wanting to spend money on it at this point of time. At the very least, if you think about it, she did come clean that she thinks, on the advice of her 'friend', she found the bid too low after some consideration, and would rather risk getting a blemish on her ebay records than letting it go at the price. Self morals and ignorance (for not setting a reserve, but I guess she had expected a higher demand for the print) may be the question here, but you can't really get someone to sell you something at a price she eventually cannot accept, just as she won't be able to get you to pay the same amount she wanted. If you really wanted the print that much, ask her what she wanted and see if you can offer to match.
But is this print commanding a higher price than meadow? If so, I cannot fanthom the reason as I find meadow a far more superior work. But to each his own.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by rg on Nov 15, 2016 4:04:36 GMT 1, totally agree with you here, its a bit shitty not selling esp after correspondence. Atleast you got a refund, i went for a Doze print and it never turned up thankfully Ebay stepped in got my money back, but its part of the risk of buying through ebay rather than shops / galleries. you rely on the honesty of the merchant most of the time its cool, but as schode said try to remain neutral and zen with the bay purchases.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by WOOF on Nov 15, 2016 6:32:15 GMT 1, I'd be willing to bet that, taken to small claims court, you'd be able to get the print at the price you won the auction for.
f**k people who try to back out of an auction after it's been completed. Kinda shocked anyone in here thinks it's a reasonable thing to do.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by rg on Nov 15, 2016 6:58:41 GMT 1, Its a poor thing to do but with ebay your not dealing with standards set by trading acts etc its bit of a grey area, (unless they are set up as a proper shop) ebay is basically buying a second hand item from an individual like garage sale not sure where small claims would stand on that.

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by lucky7 on Nov 15, 2016 19:40:46 GMT 1, Did someone actually lose out on this deal!? If it sold cheap I don't blame the seller for cancelling the sale.... As long as you got a refund and haven't lost money. Really? If somewhere sells on eBay and it happens to sell under value it's ethically ok for the seller to just walk away? Isn't that what a reserve is for? I think it's completely unethical.
No need to ask for an explanation. Some people have no honor or morals.

I do think it's fraud. You came to an agreement and you paid. Once that happenede the print was legally yours, so what she did was literally steal, no matter if she gave you money.
And did she pay you interest?

Some don't for sure. But Happy Shopper isn't such a person, in my opinion. That's why I asked. I was interested in his opinion, as I often agree with him, but didn't regarding this.

There's bigger things in life to worry about than whether someone on ebay refunds you for a print you bought... as long as you get all the money back!

Buyer BEWARE of ebay seller melissa_tortoise, by kel on Nov 16, 2016 14:51:33 GMT 1, I had one once on here where I bought a piece, paid for it then watched as they sold it on eBay for more. They refunded me and made some excuse that they had an urgent trip they needed to make so wouldn't be able to send the item to me.
You are in a no win situation. If it was me they are clearly a member on here I would be naming and shaming.
