New JR Louvre prints at Social Animals, by The True Cubs Fan on Dec 12, 2016 10:14:26 GMT 1, I really am so tempted by this one. Loved the piece when it happened and love the day print the most. The image is beautiful. But the price tag seems really high.
Maybe it's because I'm a younger collector and dont have as much cash handy, but $1,000+ seems like too much. Honestly if it were a few hundred less I would splurge but the combination of the print being a series of photos and the price tag is holding me back.
Congrats to those who got one

You are absolutely right about price being steep
JR has very little secondary market (appart from a few iconic images and some auctions in France) because he cashes in on his primary price.
These prints will sell out slowly, and you will not see them here or on the bay. They will not be worth more in the near future. People will buy to hang.
Also it must be said that the quality of his photo prints is extremely variable...not sure why but some of them look pretty crap ( ridges of Paris for example is a great image but the print is awful)

The majority of his images are appealing - I have one of the early offset favela posters, long sold out, and framed up looks little different to his lithos imo. Am currently having to part with a Walking NYC which looks stunning in the flesh, but pretty much parting with at cost to cover bills. This pair are equally tempting but can't justify the price, what with the ยฃ being hammered so much post Brexit.
Anyone else wish he'd release a few more offset posters?!

I think you need to look at the print beyond just a photo... This is the result of an artistic process, a symbolic disappearing act.
Different than a lot of "art" and prints discussed on here which are mostly ready to eat visual stuff a la Whatson etc... so this is a bit different.
That being said I loved the paste up on the pyramid but will not be going for the print. I think this is a typical example of something that was better out than in, i find the price is too steep for a memento of his great stunt

New JR Louvre prints at Social Animals, by The True Cubs Fan on Dec 12, 2016 18:09:36 GMT 1, Exactly what I was thinking. If he was selling a pieces of the paper he used to cover the pyramid, then the price might be a little More justified. Looks like a poster you would find in a gift shop.

New JR Louvre prints at Social Animals, by The True Cubs Fan on Dec 12, 2016 18:12:40 GMT 1, Very interesting. Thanks for the info! I didn't even know about the print quality issues.
Would love to see an open ended edition, or something. I've been looking around to see if there are any high quality photos of the event at the Louvre to buy. I know the money won't go to JR, but hopefully it'll support a local photographer or something.

I'm happy to keep people believing that if it helps me to get more of the prints I want, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. It's near impossible to find any of his prints that aren't currently for sale on social animals, and the ones that have sold on the secondary market have sold for much more than cost. Keep in mind, JR hasn't released many prints at all, maybe that's why it appears that way to you.

no secondary = very hard to find if not bought at source
the iconic early ones (which were a bit cheaper at release) sell at a premium, many recent ones sell at cost because cost was high to start

I agree. The real good sold out prints are hardly to find on secondary market. And when the are sold for over 3 or 4k โฌ. People buy to hang and to keep for many many years because he is an outstanding artist.

New JR Louvre prints at Social Animals, by Winter on Dec 15, 2016 11:43:03 GMT 1, Arrived today and have to say I have never seen packaging like it. The tube is large with a ribbon seal around it. It has a stamped wax seal on the outside. Inside there is a white glove and the print is wrapped inside a cloth bag with Social Animals printed on. The print has a lovely quality to it and will look amazing framed. Very happy.

Moreso id say it makes the signed edition a much better deal. Lot of complaining about jr's social animals pricing on here, but I think it's spot on to get them in the hands of fans not flippers, and seeing the price of these... id just grab the s&n'd edition.
