Ng Lung Wai: " It Speaks To Me ", by artpopup on Mar 13, 2017 3:21:28 GMT 1, We cordially invite all of you to share Ng Lung Waiโs solo exhibition at G/F, Open Space, Central Plaza, Wanchai from March 21 to April 3, 2017.
From Ordinary to Extraordinary
Taking ordinary objects to make a huge painting, Ng gathers 300 ordinary white shirts, neatly mounts it on panel one by one to form a 5 metre x 5 metre canvas. He then applies with his unique twist, squeezing paint through medical syringe onto the canvas; the visual effect is phenomenal.
Another focus of this exhibition is an artwork made with Ngโs private collection โ architectural models. Ng collects more than 400 architectural models of different scales, including residential block, commercial complex, gymnasium, amusement park, and many other types of buildings. Like a town planner, he locates each of them onto a panel, โlandโ to form a โmini cityโ and then splashes and squeezes paint onto that โmini cityโ to make a painting.
Sharing the Inner World through Artwork
Every single painting in this exhibition not only shows the skill and exploration process Ng did in his art journey, but also reflects his inner world to audience. โSpontaneous choice on colors with intuitive action on applying the paint leads to a reflection of my subconscious self onto the painting.โ Ng said.

NG Lung-Wai
Biography
Ng Lung-Wai (b. 1971) graduated with a master degree in architecture from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. For more than 10 years, he had been collaborating with local museums, exhibition centers and governmental departments for a wide range of exhibition projects. These organizations include Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defense, Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery, Hong Kong Film Archive and The Heritage of Mei Ho House, Home Affairs Department, Architectural Services Department, Planning Department, and other governmental Units.
Through the years of experience in a spectrum of exhibitions for museums and the aesthetics and values he absorbed from architecture, Ng had developed diverse approaches and his unique style in art. With a strong focus on uncompromising aesthetics and essential values in art, Ng approaches the discipline of painting with a twist, using unconventional elements such as oil scribbles, pyrography and a mix of modern and vintage materials as well as the incorporation of up-cycled antiques.
During the last decade, Ng received accolades on multi-disciplinary design contests both internationally and locally. These include merit awards on COCF โA Door to Paradiseโ (Italy, 2005), on DesignBoom โGreen Earthโ (International, 2008) and โReinvent Infrastructureโ (International, 2009), on Ithaca โTen images for Ithacaโ (Greece, 2008 & 2009), on Incheon โGreen Lifeโ (South Korea, 2009), on Alessi โAperitivoโ (Italy, 2009), Seoul Design Olympiad (South Korea, 2008 & 2010) and Hong Kong Technology Park โGiftโ architectural design (Hong Kong, 2013)
His solo art exhibitions โ1960sโ World Celebrity Portraitsโ in 2015 and โOut of Dreamโ in 2016 were successfully concluded with thousands of local and overseas visitors sharing his works and passion; the art shows were widely covered by media. Some of his artworks have been shared with The King of The Netherlands.
