Ones to watch 2017...., by Artfan13 on Mar 22, 2017 14:14:31 GMT 1, Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and stumbled across it this morning while I was looking for some art, anyway since I came across it I haven't been able to stop reading all your posts! There are so many varying opinions on this site but I would love to get people's thoughts on upcoming artists for 2017 or ones to watch for the near future....
Thanks Michelle

In what direction are you looking? Prints or artists/originals in general?
Check Ted Pim out, just release a fantastic series that feels very promising for the future. And have a look at unit london, their artists might be more of rockets that already started than upcoming but hey its a start

Ones to watch 2017...., by Artfan13 on Mar 22, 2017 14:44:09 GMT 1, Thanks maxamaxa - to be honest I am very open, prints or originals...to be honest there is nothing quite like knowing you have an original but prints are a great way to get your money to go further....unless you are after a banksy
I would just like to see what artists people have their eye on....just to expand my horizons. There are so many artists out there it can be overwhelming and it is hard to know where to start! this forum has already brought a number of new artists to my attention, its an amazing resource.

Some to look up to find some direction: Conor Harrington, had some great shows already, probably lowering production now but great artist Pejac, creative and very interesting. Ted Pim, just released a flower series (sold out) and will be very interesting to see what direction he is taking. Harland Miller, fantastic originals and high quality prints! Normaly huge thou. Brendan Monroe, interesting mini canvases, just had a show. Jose Parla seem to be on an interesting journey and the old watercolors are fantastic Katrin Fredriks is going places Mehdi is interesting as said above Think Ryan Hewett will produce fantastic pieces when he's past the face-phase All of these are on the roll already thou, not exactly budget alternatives.
Good luck with all, its a wonderful art world to live in

Ones to watch 2017...., by Hairbland on Mar 22, 2017 16:02:47 GMT 1, Howdy from Brooklyn NY! I'd check the Cheap Art and Artists You Might Not Know threads to see what you like while simultaneously checking out threads of some of the more established for example the $150 Faile coming up tomorrow. I'd cross-reference what you see here with googling Street Artists To Watch In 2017, which I just did and some hip stuff popped up.

Ones to watch 2017...., by cashewman on Mar 22, 2017 16:44:50 GMT 1, As an echo, I think Katrin Fridricks and Parla are on interesting trajectories these days.
But I wanted to quickly share how I understood what I liked, and discovered related artists, over a year or so. Here's what I did: - Check several threads on here constantly, in particular this one. - Set up an ebay search for my 4-5 favorites as one search. This works well to discover new artists, because sellers often put something like "RETNA" in the description of a related artist to attract attention. - Try to hit at least one or two street art galleries every time I visit a big city like LA, NY, or London. (Since my taste goes there... visit modern art galleries too.) - Get on mailing lists for a few galleries I really like. My personal favorit is Library Square Collective in Detroit/LA. - Follow my emerging set of favorite artists on Paddle8, etc.
I set all the links up as bookmarks on Chrome, and check them with my morning coffee.
Anyhow, that helped me discover new artists adjacent to my initial favorites, and refine my personal tastes.

I know it sounds obvious, but just seeing it online is ok but never appreciated more so than seeing it yourself. Quite a few artists I have dismissed and since seeing them up close I would consider buying.

Read more here

But in all seriousness have a look around and get a feel for the artists/styles you like. Don't rush your decision's and make sure you're comfortable and can afford any art you're potentially spending money on. Don't believe the hype.

Ones to watch 2017...., by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Mar 22, 2017 22:59:40 GMT 1, Welcome and yes the forum will open your eyes to LOTS of artists which is great. It's been said many times on many threads over the years - don't jump in and buy releases you see hyped on here, and don't try to buy for profit. You see all the time on here people buying not just prints but spending a lot on originals only to sell them for a few thousand less after a year as their value hasn't gone up...
Wait for that release you really like and will stay on your wall for a long time, if the value goes up all well and good.
In terms of one to watch, (not a new artist on here) but I am loving Ludo's work, cant afford an original, but hopefully pick up one of his older prints and hopefully some new come out this year also..

Ones to watch 2017...., by disappointed on Mar 25, 2017 16:48:53 GMT 1, -Get out to see art/shows/street work as and when you can. I know it sounds obvious, but just seeing it online is ok but never appreciated more so than seeing it yourself. Quite a few artists I have dismissed and since seeing them up close I would consider buying.
This is the very best advice.
Forums can be extremely faddish in their group tastes and there can be numerous reasons for artist X to be flavour of the month meaning that if an artist is currently not in vogue they will disappear from publicity/discussion very rapidly. So you may well miss an artist who you really engage with ..
Whilst it is easier to see many artists online if it's logistically feasible then visiting galleries on a regular basis really is the very best way to find out what you like, rather than what is being talked about. So first hand exploration, supported by monitoring various art forums, should help you develop a feel for whats out there.
Finally, if you do buy art then my number one rule has been to buy art that I like rather than art that others like. If I followed any given forum and bought the most discussed artist on there each month I am pretty confident that I would end up with a pile of art that I would consider to be mostly awful, most of which would then be sold at a loss..

I wasted time by thinking about t over the weekend and they both went. Can't find them for love nor money now!!!
Very under rated artist!!!
