Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by Sliding on the Walls on Apr 4, 2017 21:43:08 GMT 1, I was just going through some of my private messages (if you click along the pages you can see them right back from whenever you first joined the forum). I have a PM that says:
"Hey, If you're interested in a Banksy S&S you can have mine for $3000 US shipped. Mint with papers and I have many references if you need them."
OH MY GOD!!
to which I replied...
"Hi,
With more consideration i've concluded that I'm not going to be able to afford $3000 for it, not this side of Xmas!! It would be a toss up between that and Xmas pressies for loved ones. Although i know which i'd prefer, I think i'd be in the dog house for quite a while if i went with it!! Looks like somone's got the money waiting on the forum thoguh so im sure it will be an easy sell for you.
Good luck and thanks for getting in touch "

There is an easier way, just buy what you like instead Although for £50 you really should have pulled the trigger..!

Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by Express Post on Apr 6, 2017 9:48:44 GMT 1, Off the top of my head, I passed on a Wade Guyton for US$20k. I thought it was too much for an inkjet print on canvas.
Also passed on a 2m by 2m Os Gemeos for US $40k.
But had a lot of wins since then, so it doesn't sting as much.

I am the worst person for that, my old stable was on SHS and we could look down onto Rivington when Banks was stencilling on the walls there, we were all like "He's not even a real graf guy!" "Who's he tryin to kid??" "Give it till Christmas etc etc" The moral of the story is, Ladies and Gentlemen, never come to me for investment decisions in the next big thing! I commonly try to caveat that with a bit of "I'm poor and happy" cliche but that's complete bollocks.

Worst part is I'm an modern and early contemporary dealer so technically I suck at my job 😉. Or not that happens all the time to every dealer.
A few years back, I was trying to sell an early (weird) vintage avedon photograph. I offered it to like 4/5 of 5 dealers for like $7k. They all passed. I put it at sotheby's. Sold for $43k hammer.
That's what makes the art market weird and fascinating at the same time.
As much as you know how the market works, contemporary art is PR and marketing. And as of now the banksy print market is either in a bubble or canvases are undervalued (I think a little bit of both). It baffles me that someone would pay £30/35k for a stop and search when you could buy a full size happy copper painting on cardboard (sold last month) for £100k.

Hahaha don't really care. That s Just reality in the end.
Tbh screenprinting is like the lowest form of printing (apart from offset and digital). It requires no work on the part of the artist whatsoever. Thank mr warhol for the generalization of that medium.
If someone can name one other artist whose signed prints sell on average as much as banksy prints do (relative to OG prices) - I'll buy a few drinks.
Apart from the quality of his art, he has one of the best management I have ever seen. He is on par with Jeff Koons (whose art is mediocre).
Edit : If people thinks that mr B hasn't released anything for 7 years. Stuff are being sold and released privately for the select few and VIPs. No need to please the masses.

Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by Whitefish on Apr 7, 2017 2:00:12 GMT 1, This is a post of self reflection
4 days ago my wife's uncle passed away unexpectedly.. "the cool uncle" and I said to myself I should have, I would have, I could have....
Then last night my neighbors wife came to my front door BANG BANG BANG. I open the door and she just screams Vinny. So I bolt over next door and find him face down, not breathing, no pulse and quickly began CPR. EMS finally show up yada yada he is dead. He leaves behind a wife of 43 years 3 kids and 1 newborn grandchild.
He was a very close friend and like minded sucessful entrepreneur. 5 days ago he sent me a text and the most intriguing email and I kept procrastinating my response. We were working on boring but cool patent stuff not related to art.
The reason I am posting this here is because you never know what is going to happen in life. As much as we all love art and chances that we missed out on, blood will always be thicker than water. I have personally seen at least 500 people die in my hands, in my previous profession and nothing has hit home like this one did.
So take what you want from this, but my message is expect the unexpectable and never take for granted what you have now. Regret is unavoidable but your future undeniable.
I now despise myself for being a procrastinator.

Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by Deleted on Apr 7, 2017 2:11:39 GMT 1, This is a post of self reflection 4 days ago my wife's uncle passed away unexpectedly.. Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by lucky7 on Apr 7, 2017 4:48:10 GMT 1, Ouch!
Not really.
1. 200% more is a lot. Especially when that puts it in the 6 figures. 2. Stop and search is a much more powerful image and imo more beautiful. 3. You don't know who is buying and what that person alreadyowns, maybe a happy copper.
I do agree many people, particularly here, are weird, not smart, not knowledgeable, lazy, blindfollowers when it comes to originals vs prints. 3k prints might fly. Or a beautiful original by a good lnown artist languishes.

Which of your previous PMs makes you want to cry the most, by lucky7 on Apr 7, 2017 5:26:31 GMT 1, Cripes brushstrokes75! You really are airing your dirty linen in public! Careful or you'll find these comments being presented to you at your next annual apraissal!!!!!!
What you probably consider higher forms of printing come from eras where they were the easiest/lowest forms of printing. If you just want to reproduce why would you use a more difficult and time consuming method?
It's difficult to name another artist since banksy is just so different but I will give you one. He's right in front of you: Warhol. Where are the drinks?
Koons is mediocre? I take it you didn't go to his retrospective at the Whitney.
Koons and B are not succesful because of their management team. They are succesful cause they themselves are great promoters and salesmen (plus artistic talent imo). They ARE their management team.
You don't sound like an art dealer. Anything but. You should really consider changing career cause you sound very cynical and burnt out about it.
I meant everything I say but I also mean to say it lightly, respectfully, and with heart.

In all reality though, I foresee some future ones as my timing happens to be straight garbage
