The estate of Andy Warhol is suing a photographer so she doesn't sue first.
The late pop art icon's namesake foundation has filed suit against photographer Lynn Goldsmith after learning that she thinks Warhol violated copyright law by appropriating a photo she once took of Prince.
Goldsmith shot the publicity photo of Prince in 1981. Three years later, Warhol "drew inspiration" from the picture when he painted his "Prince" series, according to attorney Luke Nikas, who represents Warhol's estate.

Warhol Estate sues Photographer, before she sues first!, by wakeskater on Apr 11, 2017 13:57:14 GMT 1, That's crazy. The photo and the image to the right look almost identical. With that being said 20 plus years of waiting to sue? Isn't there a statute of limitations on stuff like this whether it's the photographer or the foundation suing?

Warhol Estate sues Photographer, before she sues first!, by Rouen Cathedral on Apr 14, 2017 3:30:08 GMT 1, Looks to be same to me. The thing that makes it difficult is the light reflection on his jaw. It makes it look like the profile is different but it really isn't.

Warhol Estate sues Photographer, before she sues first!, by met on Apr 29, 2017 2:38:10 GMT 1, On an art forum, it's wonderful to see members taking an interest in and discussing the merits of a copyright case.
What's a little disheartening is that some have made an effort to comment, but without appearing to have read the article first.
[If ever I'm charged with murder, hopefully it won't correspond to the exact time these members are called up for jury duty.]
Lynn Goldsmith's image of Prince is the source photo and reference that was used by Warhol. This fact isn't even disputed by the Warhol Foundation.
