UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by soupy on Oct 12, 2017 18:44:59 GMT 1, they didn't say quantity... as for distinguishing between the "editions", not sure. that is my fear. is that they don't and just keep printing. i'll reply back to them and see what they say about all of it.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 12, 2017 19:39:22 GMT 1, yvon lambert confirmed that the original listing when it was priced @ 250 euros was the first original printing.ย ย however, they also confirmed that the ones on their site now for 500 euros are a second printing.
This is a bummer. If they do a reprint is should be clearly marked as such. Keep those receipts folks!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by soupy on Oct 12, 2017 20:52:03 GMT 1, they replied again to my inquiry....
first printing of 1,000
2nd printing of 1,000
... only differentiator is that the 2nd printing is on heavier stock. however, the only way to know is to have both. not really a good way to mark editions. i bought from the initial batch, but i considered mine to be on "thicker than usuaal" stock. i dunno.

Just wondering if anyone has a screen grab of the original description? I picked one up at โฌ250 but like others on here had immediate concerns on the freshness of the poster once it arrived - they've either been stored exceptionally well based on the 1988 date, or my fear - probably part of the new batch of 1000. Seems a bit disingenuous - it's unclear whether this 'new edition' also date back to printing in 1988 - my guess is it's more likely to be September 2017! Suppose you can't criticise them for identifying the interest in these, particularly on the back of the show - plus they have doubled the price, but does make me slightly sceptical - tbh would rather have paid โฌ500 for an original 1988 run limited to 1000, than โฌ250 (or indeed โฌ500!) for part of an overall edition of 2000 with little certainty over from which run it originates...

Unusual to hike the price of a pile of posters that hadn't sold for almost 30 years... either way this is poor form and I don't get a good feeling from it.

However I found something 50 years old that def. feels like something thatโs 50 years old. Probably will post something tomorrow to keep this thread going...

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 20, 2017 0:55:46 GMT 1, I bought mine a year or two ago so defiantly first edition; will take some detailed pics for people to check against theirs. Mine is a glossy, with fairly thick stock, litho with thick paint. In the sense that it kinda looks like a screen-print; you can see each layer of color resting on the paper under bright light. Not like an obey litho where it appears mechanical, its clear that each layer was added separately. (just an assumption based on the appearance, I don't really understand printing as much as I would like)
So funny that they are only now selling out, I've been telling people to buy it for years!!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Rouen Cathedral on Oct 20, 2017 18:08:59 GMT 1, So the name of my new friend is Alexander. Alexander Calder.
Found the site for Galerie Maeght. Maeght was a big player in the production of some major lithographs or some major artists. Also, producer of a nice little art 'book', DERRIรRE LE MIROIR.
Was intrigued by many of the listings on their e-boutique page and eventually narrowed in on this Calder issue.
Purchased it a couple weeks ago, you will see its now sold out (got the last one!). 45 euro for 8 original lithos by Calder and over 50 years old. There is also a signed version numbered out of 150 as many issues of Le Miroir had signed special editions to go along with the original versions. This is the unsigned version, but still quite impressive.
Its beautiful. Couple very quick images snapped after it arrived below. I'll post some better ones eventually. But the printing, colors, paper are all top notch.
In researching it appears some of these have been cut up and individual lithos framed up. Some very reputable galleries list these from anywhere between 300-600$ a lithograph. Seen some listed higher/seen some listed/sold for lower. Either way it give me heartburn at the thought of cutting this up! Also, I don't see myself reselling this, but anyway you look at it 45 euro for this seems like a good find to me!
All that said, the boutique has a wide range of these issues. With a large amount of different artists. Miro, Calder, Kandinsky, Braque, Chagall, etc etc. Note some are priced insanely, some appear to be original printings, some appear to be reprints. Some of the original printings don't contain original lithography. It is very confusing and not speaking french didn't help!, but feel free to take a look yourselves and find something nice.
www.maeght.com/editions/selection.asp?id=8
I recently just made another purchase for another Calder issue. I got the second to last one of this issue. Not bad for a couple more original lithographs and color lithographs from an original printing.
Lastly, be sure to check out the posters section. While at it I've picked up a couple original lithographs posters of Calder. Stock numbers are low on many of the Calders. I got the last one for one poster. They also have some other great artists! I stuck with mostly Calders, but were tempted by a couple others. Will post some images when they arrive.
www.maeght.com/editions/selection.asp?id=10
Feel free to discuss any thoughts on these or fight about values (which I'm sure will happen :-)) Hopefully someone gets something they will enjoy hanging and either way I'm happy with my haul!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Dust Buster on Oct 21, 2017 9:55:04 GMT 1, I picked up a couple of the lesser expensive ones to get a feel for whether I should pick up more. 8 euro for an original Calder stone litho is a great deal, I donโt care if itโs from an open edition of 20,000. Thanks for posting this deal. As it happens Iโm in Paris right now, Iโll stop by the gallery if I can.

Thatโs cool! I am very curious about the quality of the paper they used and the vibrancy of the colours of the lithoโs. Maybe you can check that out for us?

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by rockbeer on Oct 21, 2017 20:22:47 GMT 1, So many amazing things on the Maeght site, and so many new byways to explore. I can see my collecting veering off in a totally unexpected direction, if I ever have any spare cash for art again after this crazy month.
Thanks for the heads up.
I'm reasonably handy with French if anyone's stuck.
