Tips on selling (Banksy), by fairplay1974 on Sept 20, 2017 16:32:46 GMT 1, Hi All,
After some tips from members with experience in selling higher priced works. I'm considering selling my Banksy Choose Your Weapon. It has COA, is registered in my name and is presently framed to full conservation standards with museum glass. My queries are around your experiences in selling similar valued works:
- How do you sort serious enquiries from tyre kickers or potential red flags/scams? - Have you used intermediary or galleries to support the process? - How have you taken payment or how would you advise on this level of transaction? - Have you sold framed? Unframed?
Any tips and experiences appreciated.

best bet to sort out the real people is to check the user history. not just number of posts, but when they joined and what they post about. im not saying a brand new user wouldnt be legit, but theres a lot of unkowns.
face to face whenever possible
most buyers will want ot see it unframed, even if they buy the frame too. again face to face helps with that.
never ship glass.
and you may not get max rate, but contacting someone like andy at castle gallery may save you a lot of headaches at this price point. on a 25-30k piece you may find that going to someone reputable will still give you a fair price and you dont have to deal with any of this, the smooth deal in some people's opinions may be worth forgoing 2k..

Tips on selling (Banksy), by rockbeer on Sept 20, 2017 17:21:42 GMT 1, Without wanting to hijack the op's thread, I'd like to throw in a related question - if the seller were to follow dexterbulldog's suggestion and approach a gallery, what exactly does the gallery do? Do they sell the piece on the seller's behalf and take a cut, as a broker or auction house would? Or do they buy the piece themselves (presumably at a supposedly reduced rate) before selling it on?
In other words, would the seller get paid before the gallery has found a buyer?
I can definitely see advantages to handing valuable pieces over to a gallery or auction house to deal with.

Tips on selling (Banksy), by fairplay1974 on Sept 21, 2017 12:54:58 GMT 1, Thanks both for replying on topic, useful and interesting points.
I may look to get this out the frame but keep all the materials for any buyer. The frame materials alone are over ยฃ650.
Mine is Dark Orange and on current valuations Iโve been advised by various people Iโll be looking around ยฃ30k.

Thanks Delloy....
Iโve emigrated twice in 18 months and been travelling in between, just starting to settle and find my feet again
