Banksy Applause Print, by Jonny Breaks on Nov 17, 2006 18:25:49 GMT 1, It says it took 500 orders before kneeling over..... I'm not so sure myself !!?!?!?
my personal idea (and thats all it is) is that the their site processed orders all day at extremely slow pace, it got to about 4.30pm (home time) so they shut the site down only to see orders come streaming through the backdoor, they then put the site back up with the Applause prints showing for it then to sell out within 5 mins.
so all in all the computer took 500 orders albiet in a very random way...certainly not the first 500 orders.

Actually it was just around 350 orders (for unsigned ones), so it's not as hard to imagine them selling out within such a short time frame. When they first put the "Due to unprecendented demand..." page (I still don't get how in the world it could have been unprecendented), they said something along the lines of "We'll figure out how to sell the remaining prints later". Then a few minutes later, they shut down the site completely, and they took the "We'll figure out how to sell" message away. So perhaps they were close to selling 350 when they decided to take it off, and subsequently figured that they were much closer to the limit when they did. The trickling so-called 'back door' orders just took the game home.
Feels as though this 'disaster investigation' should be on CNN or something. ;D

Banksy Applause Print, by jackson on Nov 17, 2006 22:35:44 GMT 1, I've just received this from POW:
Hi Jackson,
If youโre basket emptied then Iโm afraid you did not place a successful order, if you donโt update the postage then this can happen or if there are more people logging on at the same time you may never have actually had a print in your basket in the first place. Iโm afraid there were over 200,000 people trying to log onto the site and buy the print. There are only 450 prints available. Not everyone who visits the site, and even manages to put a print in their basket will be guaranteed a print. If there was a physical queue of people you would be able to see how many are in front of you but as its virtual you canโt. We will not be releasing any Banksy prints online in this way ever again. I am sorry you are disappointed but we have only ever tried our hardest to give everyone a good chance at owning a print, we could as the manufacturers give them to a gallery who would set a much higher price (around ยฃ2-5k) which we would take 80% of, and they would probably never be offered for sale to the general public but for some reason we choose to put ourselves through this hell instead!
Thereโs not much we can do Iโm afraid, there are only 450 prints available and 444 times the amount of people. The majority of people are bound to be disappointed. Let me know how if you have any suggestions on how to handle this?
Kind regards,
Steph Warren POW
First my basket emptied so i emailed them and then i managed to place a succesful order. over 200,000 people!! no wonder their system had problems. i am a bit worried that they won't release any more prints - they would earn alot more money and if all they are getting is abuse and hassle why not sell them to a gallery?
And i got the mail at 20:36 on a Friday night! Thats dedication..

I sent them an email too, but never got a reply In fact, I've sent POW quite a few emails before, and I have yet to receive even ONE reply Did you send it to Steph directly?
They won't be releasing anymore Banksy prints online EVER AGAIN?? This means only at Santa's Ghetto and other real-life shows like that? Whatever happened to "Our computers like doing this thing"? It would be tragic if Banksy becomes gallery-only. Lazinc sells prints for what, ยฃ5000? I mean... it would be great income and well-deserved recognition for Banksy, but horrid for us non-millionaires. And to think that Banksy has made so many digs at art snobbery before... would hate for him to go that route
Damn, this would also mean that people outside of the UK won't be able to purchase any prints anymore... unless Banksy does more shows outside of the UK, but how often does that happen?
I wish Steph would send me a reply and ask me for suggestions on how to handle this. I have quite a few thoughts that I really think would help

It will be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Well, we all knew that it was just a matter of time. From the description:

Awwww, what a tragedy... don't want to part with it? THEN DON'T F**KIN' SELL IT!! If you want to sell it, then cut all that "my favorite print" crap! If you wanna be a tosser, at least don't be a hypocritical, wishy-washy one!!

Banksy Applause Print, by rolyateel on Nov 19, 2006 1:00:27 GMT 1, i'm a little annoyed at reading comments on here of people "spitting their dummies out"
I've been into banksy since the blur album, which whilst not "from the beginning" is probably a lot earlier than most, ontop of that, I have never bought any of the early Banksy prints...which i am kicking myself about now...and am now buying on ebay prints that for ยฃ500 that originaly cost ยฃ45
I tried to get a grannies print & failed. I tried to get an applause - and I think i did
So, so far, I think I have a perspective from both sides.
Basically, to all those on this forum who feel the need to send abusive or deragotory emails to Steph or others at POW...for f*cks sake GROW UP.
All u will succeed in doing is forcing them to go another route other than selling directly " to the masses"...and far fewer of us will be able to afford these prints.
Be thankful that u may get 1 or 2 of the LA prints...rather than none at all.

Banksy Applause Print, by Deleted on Aug 27, 2014 1:14:49 GMT 1, I've always wondered this, but for some reason never bothered to ask: does anyone know why there's a vertical line towards the left in the sky? i've always found it odd but maybe there's a simple explanation for it?

I'm pretty sure the Ship, Jet and People are all pieces of different photos put together. You can see the rough cuts of the wing tips that overlap the ship layer as well.

Banksy Applause Print, by Deleted on Aug 27, 2014 2:41:13 GMT 1, this is what is looks like superimposed... doesn't quite match up... you can see where he cut the left part of the image to make it smaller (where the vertical line occurs)
