Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by klyde on Jan 16, 2018 18:58:24 GMT 1, Like I said earlier. Dodgy and amateur. Why dodgy? I prefer innocent and perhaps niave These are just people trying to do what's right and to get some money into the Museum Mistakes happen [ibr]
Fair play. Probably harsh. Should definetely know better though. Clearly been forced into their explanation too. "Unforeseen circumstances" in the original email didn't really cut it.
Genuinely not bothered to be honest. Was purchased when i assumed it was unlimited, and it cost £5. 😆

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by tab1 on Jan 16, 2018 19:05:30 GMT 1, I just don’t get refusal on Banksys part. It’s very weird. You’d think they were trying to flog these for 100 pounds.
All banksy latest releases are pr coordinated to help the brand exposure usually tied in to helping a good cause which creates media attention this did nothing for the brand no publication before release gaining attention etc .
Would think the little amount they would get after printing and material costs the banksy team would let them carry on and maybe put a limit to the numbers.
If you see the numbers in wcp prints they run over 100k in sales now would think these would be chased instead

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by wakeskater on Jan 16, 2018 19:31:56 GMT 1, Use the 'Latest Threads' link from the top menu. I have been missing some threads for no reason, and I don’t understand why. If it shows under latest post, I wouldn’t have mentioned why I can’t see it. Even a search didn’t show the thread.
I keep having this problem as well. It seems that instead of relevant and new threads being posted in Urban Art, they seem to be place in sub headers. It seems that any new release or info about it you have dive deep.

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by J0NNY on Jan 17, 2018 1:42:42 GMT 1, People who sent stupid emails to POW and Banksy are to blame for this I'd say. Trying to find out whether they are official so they could try and cash in rather than risk a fiver for a poster. I didn't place an order myself but it's a shame that the museum will lose out because of this. It's not like they were exactly being greedy with the cost eithier. No one bothers to go after Bansky, or many of the sellers who try to trick people into buying fake Banksys.

Bristol Museum • Paint Pot Angel Poster • WITHDRAWN , by tab1 on Jan 17, 2018 2:43:10 GMT 1, Official reply from Bristol Museum that I have just received: "Hello, This was a mistake on our part. We own the art work in question and had been granted permission to produce the image in our Guide to the Art gallery published last Autumn. It was assumed that this would allow us to produce prints however, having contacted Banksy's management we were told that this was not the case. As a result we have taken the decision to withdraw all products of the Paint pot angel image from sale and offered full refunds to customers affected. We have apologised to Banksy and would like to offer our apologies to any customers who felt misled by this sale. Many thanks The retail team Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Queens Road, Bristol BS8 1RL"
The artwork produced and pictured was gifted to the museum by the artist ,odd that they are not allowed to publish pictures of the statue ? With banksy artwork prices extremely valuable , insuring the artwork in a public setting must be a cost ? Maybe posters were aimed to pay for upkeep and costs keeping in public display ? It would benefit the artist more so with exposure , or may be not priced high enough? Or maybe the wording in which it was sold misled people to believe it was produced by the artist? Surely they can change the wording? Lost the graffiti routes!

Banksy gifted them the piece as well as far and away the most successful exhibition in the museum's history. Seems more than reasonable to me and a huge error even assuming they could without first consulting PC.

Agree in parts but even if this doesn’t get found out by banksy and team, essentially people are just buying a cheap piece of paper printed with a photo that they can take in the museum themselves (cropped and photoshopped to good effect if needed), or just a picture they can download and print out on some fancy paper. It’s not part of the artist’s portfolio and certainly don’t deserve a place in one’s collection. Or is the saying ignorance is bliss a good thing here? Then we can count on many unknowing collectors with fake kaws figurines to have the utmost satisfaction.

No one said it was part of the artists portfolio - but it does belong to the gallery as would the photograph ( if it was taken by them ). Surely it would be part of the museums portfolio. Museums getting money is never a bad thing IMO. The whole thing could have also been shut down by the museum itself out of respect for Banksy who has been kind to them, so not to sever any good relationships.
Whether or not it belongs in someone's collection is entirely up to each individual.

If going by what you said earlier, people who sent in queries to POW (flippers or people hoping it would be, such that they can make money off it) are hoping to treat this as part of the artist’s portfolio, or at least a poster edition sanctioned by the artist. Isn’t that a clear enough move?
