New Phlegm Print, by racket on Jan 22, 2018 18:54:08 GMT 1, ' Well this took a while. It's been an embarrassingly long time since i last did a newsletter. I painted a lot of walls became a hermit grew a big beard and almost ran away to live in the woods. I just didn't find enough studio time to make anything i really felt pushed my work forwards. I'm not a fan of selling work just for the sake of it. I have to be passionate and excited about what I'm making. That in my opinion is the only thing that can give art any real value at all.
So, I've expanded my studio and over the past year and I've managed to make some huge progress with my etching and engraving. In fact, this side of my work has just opened up in front of me lately. It's made me feel like every drawing I've ever done is just a rough sketch. So it's time for me to get busy building a good body of print work as an engraver and printmaker. I've been threatening to do it for the past two or three years so i guess it's about time.
This is the first print i've worked on since I've been developing different ways of drawing into the copper plate. Without getting too nerdy i'm partially engraving the line work as well as etching it. This results in a finer detail and also a more varied depth of line work.
This print is a copper plate etching i've called 'Tributary' printed with black Gamblin etching ink on 300gsm somerset satin white mould made paper. Edition of 200. The plate size is 29.5 by 25cm and has a 3cm torn edge border. Its signed, named, numbered and embossed with my monogram.
Its packed with detail and its a clean print with minimal plate tone. Just as a note for people used to buying more commercial prints and posters. This is a printing technique unchanged since early in the 16th century. Each print is hand inked and then delicately wiped back with cloths until just the image is left on the plate. Its then pushed through a heavy press and the image is embossed from the plate to the paper. It's a beautiful process that produces results closer to an original drawing than to a print. This also means every print has small individual plate marks. I'm a meticulous printmaker so no prints have any marks that interfere with the image quality itself at all.'

I thought it was fairly self explanatory. What part d I d n t you get? Hit a nerve? Most of his last release got flipped and botted by your crowd.

New Phlegm Print, by cmartin on Jan 23, 2018 3:51:06 GMT 1, I was really hoping he would include some of his awesome guys (do they have a name?) on his next print but this is really quite amazing. I will certainly be going for it. What do you guys expect the release to be like? Instant sell out? Is it fastest to check out or if you cart one are you good?

New Phlegm Print, by FЯ on Jan 24, 2018 1:42:03 GMT 1, This has been completely bogged down by the pow thread. Thats really short notice - 5pm today this comes out.
Judging by previous prints this is going to be special. Will probably fail but ill give it a go, its going to be tricky to get it.
His first print in 2-3 years must have the expresso bean lot wetting themselves

New Phlegm Print, by treweman on Jan 24, 2018 12:20:22 GMT 1, I frequent both forums (EB more admittedly) but Phelgm seems to have way more of a fan base here than there... Can only think of 4 or so blokes on EB that collect all his work. That 322 page thread over there on phlegm is funny reading 1. Hundreds (thousands?) of us are active on multiple art forums. When you trash talk EB, you are in essence slamming members on UAA. 2. So you read all 322 pages of the Phlegm thread on EB. In my book, that makes you the crazy uncle no one wants to be around, whether you joined EB or not. Oh, and just to be clear, threads on EB have 15 posts per page, and on UAA threads have 30 posts per page. So the 322 pages on EB is equivalent to 161 pages on UAA. So maybe you aren’t the crazy uncle, but just the spoiled kid who screams all the time. 3. A simple search for Stik (you do remember him?) turns up 736 THREADS on UAA - not posts, THREADS. And reading them isn’t “funny.” They start out like Leave It to Beaver or Ozzie and Harriet, but after three or four posts morph into Dark Mirror. If a few collectors on EB have a hard on for Phlegm - and most of them are UAA members as well - then the UAA members who adore Stik should heed the warning on the Viagra bottle: if this erection lasts more than four hours seek professional help. As a disclaimer, I have contributed quite a few posts on the EB Phlegm thread, and likewise I’ve posted quite a few times about Stik on this forum. I like both artists quite a bit.
Yes, you all touched a nerve. And it isn’t really a need to defend EB as much as a need to speak out against criticizing and belittling others to make ourselves feel good. Hell, I have to put up with Trump every day, and the last thing we all need is the same kind of thing here. More bots among EB members? Please ... pulled that out of your a.. How many times do I have to read on UAA that EB is more focused on sales and money? That certainly hasn’t been my experience being active on both boards, and a quick glance at available statistics doesn’t support that stereotype. Does EB like Phlegm more than UAA? Hell if I know, but I don’t think so. UAA is certainly more focused on street and urban art than EB, and Phlegm is a prolific street artist.
I, for one, greatly admire Phlegm and collect his art. I have no intention of buying this print - although I suspect it will be terrific in the flesh - because I’m targeting OGs.
Damn, I feel better now. Got tha out of my system.
