New Pose Print?, by davievegas on Feb 9, 2018 9:42:52 GMT 1, Seems people are wising up. Great sign It's almost like you're rooting for him to fail... Antagonizing is a horrible quality. Already stated this particular re print shouldnt be supported in a form of another edition. Love the guys work but greed is not a flattering thing anyone should get behind. No matter how much you like/collect the artist. This particular run is a disgrace and a money grab. I wont support that and neither should you. Imagine you are a graphics designer and was contracted by a company to make them something as simple as a logo. You make the logo and your work is done. You get hired by another company and take the same logo and slap different colors on it and try and sell that to the new company for a more expensive price. Do not think that would go to well. No different with this drop. This re print is even more expensive then the original print.

New Pose Print?, by davievegas on Feb 9, 2018 9:57:24 GMT 1, Seems people are wising up. Great sign Still sold out within minutes... That means what exactly what now a days? The original image was his top 3 most popular image sold to date for him. You know how many people wanted this image? Of course people bought it. Thats like saying a re print of Burn or Blot in print form with diff color ways would not sell out. Brainwash does this all the time but yet sells out still. We all know how most people feel about him on this board so that re print crap should be looked upon as garbage lazy sales tactics. But money talks and if people will buy poop in a can because the hype is strong enough then gosh darnit it is what it is. Will never make it right.

Iโm assuming the same way.

New Pose Print?, by Villain Dillon on Feb 9, 2018 17:19:59 GMT 1, I purchased the original run of DUDE directly from Roger Gastman when he opened the "Work In Progress" pop-up on Black Friday in 2015. I've been following POSE's graffiti for over a decade now and was always a huge fan of his pieces - his economy of line in his street pieces are excellent and think that he translates that style to his fine art work.
As for the reprints that he does I have some lingering sentiments. He's free to do whatever he wants and should not be compared to someone who creates unoriginal images for others, per the example given about the "logo." With that being said, I think it's a little bizarre and IMO very uninspiring/unimaginative to release the same image in a different colorway several years later. I see how his approach makes collectors not want to purchase any more of his work. For many of us, dare I say most, we purchase a piece with the understanding that the image and it's run are final, and if there is to be an additional variant, that it be released together with the original. There's a certain zest that goes along with a purchase when it's limited and knowing that there are only so many in collections.
The last thing I would want would be for POSE to fail or be unsuccessful, but I do not think this approach to print releases/images is sustainable.

Iโll ask you same question. Iโm sure you feel the same about banksys sales end rerelease.

New Pose Print?, by Villain Dillon on Feb 9, 2018 17:54:06 GMT 1, Iโll ask you same question. Iโm sure you feel the same about banksys sales end rerelease. I believe there are some key differences. If I'm not mistaken, POW mentioned that they were reprinted soon after the first run (I could be wrong about this), they were released a decade later, the newer edition is signed, the signed edition of 500 is a reworked image, whereas POSE simply changes the colors (and in this case the title of the print from DUDE --> GENT), and lastly, the rerelease of prints has become characteristic of POSE, which I do not think can be said for Banksy.
With that said, I think a collector should be cognizant of the possibilty that POSE will reprint an image.

Did banksy not print girl with balloon AP's in different colors after the fact? And Choose Your Weapon AP's?
Or were those all printed at the same time? Seriously asking, because I don't know.
Same for murakami, because a large majority of his prints look exactly the same but are different shapes or colors.

There are huge false equivalence problems here, starting with the fact that graphic designers are contracted to do work for a company, and those contracts state who owns the rights to the work produced - usually the company. Buyers of art have no such agreement, most of the time, and artists almost always retain the rights to their work, allowing them to change and release new versions of images if they so choose.

New Pose Print?, by kwatis on Feb 10, 2018 0:32:53 GMT 1, It is not my intention to be fueling the flames of discontent that exist in this thread.
I can see the validity from both sides of this discussion. Yes, it might make some collectors unhappy that an image that they purchased originally gets a makeover and is released later. And yet, collectors like myself appreciate the variation and approach to improving something and updating it to a current or different color palette. Still other collectors, those specifically that missed out on the first version, jump at the chance of getting to own a piece that they might have been looking to add, but without the inflated prices of secondary markets.
Many artists work in series, both originals and in prints. Ultimately the artist knows their market and understands it is impossible to please everyone at the same time. I think POSE is working thru composition/color/imagery the best way he sees fit. If that means that one print release image gets updated to look like a HPM variant that existed beforehand, then that's his prerogative. And as a consumer, its our prerogative to purchase or pass.
In my opinion it was smart to do reprints of previous editions. With Doll, that was a print first released by Jonathan LeVine Gallery and honestly looked nothing like how his current prints with POP look. Seems like he just wanted to give it the POP!NK treatment.
I guess at the end of the day, the artist will do whatever they want. Its a job that has no rules. Or if there are rules, they are self-imposed by the artist.

What else has pose re released?
And your differences are nonsense. Doesnโt matter what the time line was on the banksy piece. So banksy adding two figures > pose working with different colors. Honestly poses change shows more artistic merit to me. Banksy added two figures. Pose creates a whole new color pallet that works.
Looking through the Banksy colored glasses!
Id be interested in hearing about these muli colored aps that every banksy fan drool over...

New Pose Print?, by Villain Dillon on Feb 10, 2018 2:18:06 GMT 1, I believe there are some key differences. You were the one who brought Banksy up in the first place and I answered with an answer I found appropriate - if you didn't I'm ok with disagreeing. I've never collected Banksy so I'm probably the wrong person to lend insight in the first place.
I never said that the new color palette didn't work.
I believe Pose has rereleased Doll to answer your first question. My overall sentiment is that he's a great painter and has many other great paintings to turn into prints -- would love to see "STUDY" turned into a print for example.

New Pose Print?, by lg2771 on Feb 10, 2018 3:04:51 GMT 1, The most interesting thing about this re-release (there isn't much, since it's business as usual) is the change in title.
I mean itโs sort of a different print. With the blonde hair on top it looks more of a rich country club type than the previous, hence gent. The previous top hair was background to the piece while the hair on top is the most prominent part for me. Two different meanings in my opinion.
