Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by Happy Shopper on Dec 11, 2018 10:37:50 GMT 1, There are very few real "street artists" these days. Few do anything illegal... Or very interesting anymore.
But there's new artists that people are collecting.

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2018 11:15:57 GMT 1, Urban art has lost its way. It used to be about subversion and rebellion; a reaction against the art establishment. Nowadays, it's more about making money. Even relatively unknown artists are beginning to charge silly prices for their art.
Urban art is becoming a bit old hat these days. Personally, I'm waiting for the next big thing. It's long overdue.

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by Lroy on Dec 11, 2018 13:08:41 GMT 1, The problem is that we you are telling the truth ( as you nobokov) , about incredible prices for the launch of weak or redundancy prints, you look as a guy that is always criticizing artists, that you are making bashing, that you are moaning or resentful etc .. As punk has done for the rock n roll and solo guitars we can say f.. all this old generation now ( is there is a new one anyway ?) Artists only play on the hype and the moment , and put crazy , yes crazy prices for prints that wonโt be take value ( for those wanting to sell them ) in few years. Anyway, editions are simply too much expensive and boring most of the times... At the end, I winder If first graffiti writers are not the most interesting... too many academic paintings now ...

Some new artists are great too. And Sweettooff, and Paul Insect are still up and good !

Cripta Djan is a great example of an artist who has been doing illegal (and dangerous) art for years and continues to do so.

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by Deleted on Dec 13, 2018 16:36:27 GMT 1, for me its about originality
no one is close to banksy in terms of cleverness/ making people think consistently.....
totally get the print market comments- by my math invader made $1m in LA on prints alone.
Fairy has so many prints out its hard to keep track, and feels like he's undermining his own "brand" in some respects (but even thinking about it as a "brand" feels SO wrong)
artists like Add Fuel, Pejac are amazing, and real original talent there, but likewise tons of people who copy and try to make a quick buck, which is disappointing.

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by jbelleit on Dec 13, 2018 17:03:23 GMT 1, I would say Urban Art is growing...
I have learned of more artists in 2018, read more about art (in general) and older artists in 2018, bought more art in 2018, discussed art with friends who don't follow art in 2018, been to more museums in 2018...
For example...In the last month or two, I have been learning about Dee Dee (Was Here). I like that she (or he...I don't think gender has been confirmed) still pastes up NYC all the time. She(he) loves that fans post pics of themselves with the art. The art remains funky and colorful yet with a message to be interpreted by the viewer. I think she(he) has been around for 8 years or so. But I am just learning and following Dee Dee now.
But what do I know? Though I hope it is not dead...I enjoy urban/street art immensely...

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by dreadnatty on Dec 13, 2018 17:12:18 GMT 1, I disagree with you as a whole (that street art is on its last legs) but I just wanted to share my thoughts on the forums. A lot of people I know that used to frequent this site, don't anymore (well don't post anyway) due to a lot of discussion about money/flips etc. And EB activity is down because the site has been a piece of s**t for a good 12 months now - they're supposedly in the process of re-hauling it entirely. 100%....the non stop talk of money/politics/flipping/for sale by people who contribute nothing and owner banning of long time knowledgeable members have pushed people away. Ownership made this place what it is.

I believe some of it has to do with the manner in which people address each other on here. But there are still a great number of decent sorts on here still.

I will just add, that there is a lot of suscribing for givaways and no participating too

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by sleepyl on Dec 13, 2018 18:38:06 GMT 1, Or maybe because our taste in art (regardless of the form of Art) just evolves over time and you've now moved out of Urban Art. Most of the artists I was vaguely interested in when I got into Urban Art don't catch my attention anymore. Partly because some artists are repetitive but sometimes I wonder if's that's because some of us are ... maybe a bit bored and need that content need for novelty?
Anyway, I discovered many great artists in 2018.
On a side note, I'm positive POSE will renew himself. As per his own words, "50% of his time is spent making experimental work" that he doesn't show. Check his IG, it's quite cool, I like his tries with textures. Disclaimer: I own a few prints from POSE.

Was 2018 the year that killed Street Art collecting?, by sczoso on Dec 19, 2018 21:32:38 GMT 1, Increasing print prices, kaws commercial collaborations, flood of terrible Invader edition, rehashes by Pose, faile, and Conor Harrington, Shepard Fairey christmas ornaments, Pejac open editions. Also, activity seems to have died on this forum and EB. The whole scene feels to be on its last legs in my opinion. Anyone agree?
If itโs officially dead, please let owners of Kaws/Banksy/Invader prints know that I am paying retail haha

And I'm sorry but it does get funny when you can see the car crash coming from around the corner, in the fog, at night, with your eyes closed.
