It actually looks really good in person. It was an ap along side the tennis prints and it seemed to get more attention.
Hell yeah it looks good. I love it

Still curious what happened to cest at the signing - from what I saw, he left with a pretty good load (was the only one who got a signed poster).

Jonas Wood โข VOTE, by cest on Nov 7, 2018 20:06:15 GMT 1, Background: I am in jersey for a month. Three weeks ago i called gagosian to hold some of the posters from the april show. This is before the event was announced. I had lined up going to an auction house to line stuff up, hit gagosian, and hit pace prints (nina/harring shows). <The weather sucked so i decided not to take art to the auction house i intended to.>
So, the instagram just announced a books signing event, no rules, or expectations up front. I added that as my last stop.
I wont bore you with the day that led up, but i got to the event (2 hours) early and they had posters out. One old out of print gagosian and the new ones from april (few dozen). I grabbed one of the new ones and one of the old ones. The manager then took the april posters on the floor and the one i had and took them to the back- saying he "wasnt sure they were selling those tonight" and he would let me know/he would talk to the owner if they could. This was slightly annoying, but whatever. Thee he left me was outrageously expensive, but i decided to keep it since i have no JW art on my walls.
The manager seemed clueless on limits for waht could be signed, excluding 2 rules no "outside" stuff could get signed and everything had to be endorsed. I have several jonas posters in my bag, but since they made the rule- cool.
So, I'm the second person in line and I am still waiting for them to tell me whether or not I could by one of the April posters to have signed. I task manager several times but he kept pushing it off pushing it off and now I'm standing in front of Jonas and he's like what do you want signed? I said I'm not sure because a manager doesn't know whether or not he wants to sell some posters. On the spot the owner besides he did not want to sell the posters and just books, but I could buy his several hundred dollar poster to have signed.
At that point I'm really annoyed, Jonas seems to be somewhat annoyed and I decided to have two books signed for members here, and one for a friend. I also bit the bullet and bought the poster. Trying to calculate my expenses for the month at the last minute, kept me from adding the $60 book which would have been a no-brainer if I could have had one of the April posters signed.
So I'm walking away not feeling great about the whole thing and i find a corner to put the books in my bag and pack up to leave. I turn around and the owner is standing next to the booth and clearly watching the person several people behind me getting a cut off the tennis ball wallpaper signed. <Really?>
Basically I spent the most amount of money out of anyone and I feel like I got shafted. So my two big gripes are : they did not have a plan to begin with- they had posters for sale then they didn't, and they had rules and did not enforce it. It would have been much easier if they had set expectations in the very beginning, saying it is strictly a book signing don't bring anything else to sign and don't expect there to be any posters.
Now, today I feel better about my purchase of the poster. I knew it was pretty scarce and out of print and I do like the design. I'm looking really hard for a signed April poster but I don't expect I'll find one at a reasonable cost. I'll just have to wait till the next event and see if someone could help me get one. I do regret not getting the book but mostly because my wife really really likes it and I'm kind of shocked because she does not like art books typically.

Hi Cest- I was a few spots behind you and didnโt realize!
I think in a lot of these cases with signings- the artist initially wants the staff to be the bad guy and set limitations as they didnโt expect how many people to expect. However, Jonas seemed like a super cool guy and the turnout wasnโt crazy.
If itโs any consolation, by you purchasing that poster and getting it signed- it set a precedent for everyone else and opened up the flood gates. So if it werenโt for you, everyone wouldnt have gotten other things signed. I was the one with the tennis ball wallpaper and got a hoops tote signed as well. So essentially- thank you! Iโve been plotting getting these signed for a year.
If it were not for you- a lot of people wouldโve been pretty disappointed with what they got signed. So essentially you brought a lot of joy to everyone else.
I do agree that they couldโve got an idea of how many people to expect at say 6:30- and couldโve been a bit more clear with expectations. They probably couldnโt get in touch with Jonas to get a clear direction beforehand.
All the best!

Show us the signed tennis balls ya butt
congrats!
Background: I am in jersey for a month. Three weeks ago i called gagosian to hold some of the posters from the april show. This is before the event was announced. I had lined up going to an auction house to line stuff up, hit gagosian, and hit pace prints (nina/harring shows). <The weather sucked so i decided not to take art to the auction house i intended to.> So, the instagram just announced a books signing event, no rules, or expectations up front. <Really?> Basically I spent the most amount of money out of anyone and I feel like I got shafted. I do regret not getting the book but mostly because my wife really really likes it and I'm kind of shocked because she does not like art books typically. knew i should've PM'd you to see if you had any squares left before that signing. that'll look great on the wall.
and i agree that karma can be a bit stubborn. they had jonas books on the shelves that they wouldn't sell for... no apparent reason. and these are books that are still in print, so they could've just sold it and got another one the next day.
i enjoyed the event though, was a nice night for me.

And Cest, understandable that you're annoyed now, but sure you'll be over it soon and then just happy with the great haul you got. Super jealous this wasn't somewhere near me. I have so many Jonas posters and stuff I'd love signed. Managed to buy one of the signed Tennis Court Drawings posters, which I'm really happy with, but would kill for a signed Voorlinden.

I heard a guy from D4D talking to one of Jonas' friends at the book signing, and they were talking about how they couldn't sell the 'Vote' print to people outside the US because federal law prevents donations to PACs from anyone other than US citizens, or something along those lines.
I'm sure you'll get your money back though, if that's the concern. They're probably just really busy and likely a small operation.

They told me that they were slowly going through and reviewing orders -and it could take awhile . Didnโt sound like many involved in doing so

I'd put in a request now for D4D for a random amount (like $1,500), just in case they decide to release something else - they have a pretty good artist roster! Maybe he'll release another print with them since this one raised so much money (this is pure speculation).

Im thinking around 5-6k in the next six months. Totally drunk guesstimating. Prob 10k in 3-5 years.
I am waiting for that leveling too. Even though , when seeing it in person, it is impressive... It may not make the wall

A 30ish Euro-looking woman wearing the new Jonas Wood track suit! I pointed it out to my gf, who is completely unaware of who JW is (as would be many). She thought incredibly ugly.
