Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by acme on Jan 15, 2019 17:16:24 GMT 1, I lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK
End of March 2017 I sold a print through Ebay UK, at that time UK started the Brexit with article 50. I lost 200€ in the process through the currency exchange because I got paid in GBP. Six weeks ago I sold two more prints through Ebay UK, I got paid in GBP again but exchanged it right away for Euro. I don't want to loose more money while the Brexit happens. Ebay Uk was a good marketplace, buyer from all over the world were looking on Ebay UK, same as sellers. As an advice I would not let GBP sit in your paypal account. I did that just in case a good opportunity arise to buy something in the UK, either through Ebay or gallaries, but since the GBP is going down, I stopped leaving GBP in my account.
Today I pulled my remaining auctions from Ebay UK, just to be save. I will keep looking for some nice cheaper deals in the next few weeks as some sellers don't change their prices so the more the GBP tanks the cheaper the prints are.
Does anyone had the same experience? Are you guys changing the prices on the forum and/or Ebay? How do you do the payment process converting GBP to EU?

Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by gd79 on Jan 15, 2019 21:50:36 GMT 1, To be fair, you didn't lose 200 quid because of eBay. You lost it because you made the implicit choice to hold sterling.
Be thankful - you can come here on holiday and make it all back on your spending. We have to wear the cheap sterling.

Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by acme on Jan 16, 2019 1:22:07 GMT 1, True it wasn't Ebay's fault, but Ebay is a big platform for the secondary market. I just wanted to raise the questions how to proceed in finding buyers and sellers. I was always looking for buying and selling in the UK, through Ebay, Expressobeans, and the forum, but with the Brexit and nobody knows what's coming next I have to think where to go now or how to handle payment and do pricing. And not to leave GBP in my accounts for now, even if I want to buy art in the UK.
I really never cared so much about currency, but with payments up to 1-3K I just lost money with the GBP.

I'm not sure I understand your trouble here. What country are you in? If you live in, say, France, then sell items on the French e-bay site and show the price in euros and say you will ship worldwide. This will still show up on the ebay UK site (and others). Then buyers will pay you in Euros even if they live in the UK. That way, the buyer pays the currency conversion fees not you the seller. Or have I misunderstood you?

Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by moron on Jan 16, 2019 14:15:27 GMT 1, time to start flipping currencies! People are dumping bitcoin and buying gold plus banks dumping their bitcoin holdings.
Ebay fees for selling art are very high considering Ebay does no more work when someone sells a ten dollar artwork internationally or a ten thousand dollar artwork.
I do not see how logically Ebay can justify it but there again. They are only interested in making a profit.
Exchange fees is where the banks etc make money and as the saying goes, "everyone gets their cut"

Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by daniel3886 on Jan 16, 2019 21:54:08 GMT 1, I have used either Transfer Wise when paying, or for receiving/sending larger amounts City Forex. Both company’s rates are substantially better than those offered by PayPal/banks/credit cards. Especially on larger transactions.

Lost 200€ by selling on EBAY UK because of the Brexit, by acme on Jan 19, 2019 22:19:24 GMT 1, I guess not selling through ebay is the first thing to do and yes I prefer Transferwise as well. Though Paypal has buyer protection which was handy in the past. How about Paddle8? What happens if I buy art and it arrives damaged, is there some kind of buyer protection in place?
