Asking for a € 1 donation - Let's do this!, by Dive Jedi on Feb 3, 2019 11:02:29 GMT 1, Goodmorning, my Irish friend Pascal in Maasin, Philippines started Star Apple Foundation that runs a soup kitchen for the children living on and around the garbage dump in Maasin, Philippines. starapple.ph/whatwedo.htmlWhen super typhoon Yolanda / Hayan hit Tacloban he was one of the first to go there and build houses for the victims - with his own crew and his own money. The Soup Kitchen is in need of a good scale, so they can monitor the weight of the kids. And they do not want to spend any money that was donated for food. SO LET'S SHOW THE POWER OF THE FORUM HERE !!When some old fart gives away a poster we can get a list together of a 100+ people in 3 days. Let's help some children in need. Any surplus donated will go towards food. I am not asking for 10, 20 or 50 euro per person here. Let's all donate £1 , €1 or $1 per person.
We can make a difference here with less then the price of a cup of coffee. Here's the link :fundrazr.com/01SEwf?ref=ab_82sWd5_ab_AiGAI5qmgi4AiGAI5qmgi4Start your weekend well! Many thanks, Jedi Goodmorning everyone!
And what a great day it is. The sun is shining here. I open my laptop and the goal has been reached.
Many thanks to everyone that contributed. Always have said there's good folks here!
But if you see this thread now for the first time and think :
Hey, what's going on here ? ? ? People are being nice on the forum ! ? ! And I missed out ? !
Not to worry. There is no FOMO in helping a great cause! So if you still would like to contribute, please do so. I can assure you every cent will be spend to the benefit of the kids.
Probably on food, but I'm not gonna make the classic mistake by telling from Holland what people on the other side of the globe need. I trust their judgement.
So if you would still like to make a donation, please do so. Much appreciated!

Asking for a € 1 donation - Let's do this!, by Dive Jedi on Feb 3, 2019 14:36:36 GMT 1, Only just seen this Jedi, I hope the contribution helps. It most certainly does!
A big thank you to all contributors so far again. Even though we broke the scale goal , every extra euro will help a family.
Either with food, medicine or sadly sometimes with a proper funeral.
I'm a sales guy, so when I used to get a target of 300, I set my goals to 500. Very pleased with all the support so far, but hopefully there's a few members that want to join. You'll feel good. Look at all those happy faces above.
And I'll shut up - for now.

Let's see if we can reach 400 before midnight.

Many members went before you and are skipping about now all day. Even Zippy got a bounce in his step!
It's a great cause - run by volunteers. Help 'm out.

Asking for a € 1 donation - Let's do this!, by pascalstarapple on Feb 5, 2019 1:25:34 GMT 1, Hello everybody at UAA I am Pascal, the founder of Star Apple Foundation, and a good friend of 'Jedi' since 2010. He will be here next week.
I would like to thank all UAA members who donated the request for funding for a proper scales. We have gone through 3 cheap scales in the past few years. Some lost their calibration, others just broke.
I have been overwhelmed by the response from UAA members. Almost all the donations came from here. We had already reached our goal after 36 hours of being shown here, on this thread.
I can assure you that all the donations above the original €300 will go towards small deeds that we do on a weekly basis. Some are a little bit sensitive, so we do not publish on social media. Because of the over subscription, I will be able to tell a mother that we will pay for the processing of here child's birth certificate. This is just an example of requests we get and often have to turn down.
I will order the scales today. Yipee
Kind Regards Pascal Canning Star Apple Foundation

Just a short update for members that see this for the first time. The scale has been purchased. But Star Apple does many other things in the community they can always use some funds for. The surplus here is being used to arrange a birth certificate for a very poor family. Sometimes they also buy medicine if necessary.
I was planning to go there to take some pics of the scale in action, but have been so busy diving last week I didn't have a chance yet. But I will! Hopefully soon.

Asking for a € 1 donation - Let's do this!, by Dive Jedi on Apr 5, 2019 12:19:32 GMT 1, Finally got around to visit the garbage dump where Star Apple provides meals for the children. They have other locations where they do as well. I even got to help a bit - although I'm sure I just slowed them down.
Great work - rather disturbing just to imagine your own kid would grow up here.... Or that we tend to worry about creases in our pretty pieces of paper. Puts things in perspective….
Quite amazing Pascal knows all these kids, moms, dads and grandma's by name and how they are doing. Didn't see the weight scale in action, since they weigh them only every 2 or 3 months. But to see these kids in pretty good health and well spirited shows this is money well spent.
