Yue Minjun ๐จ๐ณ Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by jakek on Sept 23, 2008 23:48:07 GMT 1, If you've studied murakami then that leads nicely to to chiho aoshima, mr, and aya takano - all very different but represented by murakami's kaikai kiki company. of the three i really like takano's work but the other 2 seems to be more popular among collectors. give me a shout if you want and i'll try and dig out some links.

Bingo!
yes zhang's pretty cool. So's Yue. These guys are leading the scene, and now most Chinese artists are following their footsteps (imitating, in many ways) to reach fame and fortune... which is sad cuz, there are really more, much more in modern Chinese Art than art that "panders to the West" - this influx of big money is really corrupting the pool.
A walk down 798 and you'll see all the young ones, selling their "one trick", trying to lodge themselves on the international scene (ie. get their work exhibited anywhere, long as it's "western") - a few of them succeeded, many failed, but what a waste of creative energies...

Yue Minjun ๐จ๐ณ Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by johnnyh on Jun 9, 2014 16:33:35 GMT 1, Thanks. Where are the sculptures located? I want to see them. Any other art related thing you can recommend (besides 798 of course)? It's called the Today Art Museum Building 4, Pingod Community, No.32 Baiziwan Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100022
it's not massive but pretty decent and often has some good shows on. The Yue Min is right outside. But all around it are the other pieces you just have to look a bit and come across them there are a couple I have not shown. To the left of the museum is a few galleries and arty coffee shops and the Tea House I mentioned be careful of the tea house though it's very exspensive. There is a really good print and arty shop just beside the museum that does limited editions like Yue Min tea sets etc. it's def with a little trip out to not far in a cab inside the 3rd ring road. Not sure how well you know Beijing but everything evolves around what ring road your in so in side the 3rd is regarded as central. So if your Central will cost you 20/30 rmb max to get there in a cab and there is also a metro near by and 20 to go in
get hold of a time out and you can check the different shows on at the diff galleries and art areas.

Yue Minjun ๐จ๐ณ Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by lucky7 on Jun 10, 2014 9:51:36 GMT 1, Those Yue Minjuns look very cool. I used to like him but I think his quality has gone down a bit, but still. I try to look at TimeOut, but I'm a bit confused by the layout. I've not seen any cool print shops and look forward to the one you mention. As for expensive coffee, for me its kind of part of the gallery and museum experience, its art's little cousin. So once in a while, an expensive cup is fun. I've been living here one year but still get lost . I'm on the 3rd ring but to the east, i guess this place is on the other side of town. Thank you for the explanation.

Thank you for the explanation. If your on the 3rd ring it's not to far from you. No it's not the coffee shop's there are a few there all ok. There is a traditional tea house with art in. That's the one that's pricey yes they have a few good prints there nothing mega. There used to be a great print shop at 798 but it's gone now. But keep your eye out on 798 as they sometimes or used to do some print shows. I got a couple from there and wish now had got more but was all a bit new to me then so was unsure. cheers enjoy

Hi Lucky 7, if you can't get info from Timeout (which normally has a section on galleries/shows etc) you could also check out the following websites that have info on what is going on around town:
SmartBeijing That's Beijing
I use the Shanghai equivalent of each of these down here and they normally get updated fairly regularly.
