My Art Finds Thread, by Rouen Cathedral on Aug 21, 2019 14:24:25 GMT 1, With the Drop Thread being closed due to wanting separate threads for new releases I've decided to compile everything I've shared to date in regards to my finds over time in a new thread. I will continue to add to this thread as well. Since these aren't 'new' releases and more of a hidden finds thread I think it makes sense to keep them all together.
Anyways hope some collectors find some cool things in this thread to add to their collections!
EDIT: To avoid this from becoming a free for all like the other thread became. Please post any finds you have in a new thread. Especially if its a new release on the scene!

If anyone is interested in some nice offset lithos of Christo check out here. Not bad for signed lithos of some of his iconic work. Also some nice signed photos available as well.
I had a huge Gates one a while ago that I ended up parting with. Was very nice on some very nice paper.
This website also has a Rauschenberg section but too pricey for me!

Found the site for Galerie Maeght. Maeght was a big player in the production of some major lithographs or some major artists. Also, producer of a nice little art 'book', DERRIÈRE LE MIROIR.
Was intrigued by many of the listings on their e-boutique page and eventually narrowed in on this Calder issue.
Purchased it a couple weeks ago, you will see its now sold out (got the last one!). 45 euro for 8 original lithos by Calder and over 50 years old. There is also a signed version numbered out of 150 as many issues of Le Miroir had signed special editions to go along with the original versions. This is the unsigned version, but still quite impressive.
Its beautiful. Couple very quick images snapped after it arrived below. I'll post some better ones eventually. But the printing, colors, paper are all top notch.
In researching it appears some of these have been cut up and individual lithos framed up. Some very reputable galleries list these from anywhere between 300-600$ a lithograph. Seen some listed higher/seen some listed/sold for lower. Either way it give me heartburn at the thought of cutting this up! Also, I don't see myself reselling this, but anyway you look at it 45 euro for this seems like a good find to me!
All that said, the boutique has a wide range of these issues. With a large amount of different artists. Miro, Calder, Kandinsky, Braque, Chagall, etc etc. Note some are priced insanely, some appear to be original printings, some appear to be reprints. Some of the original printings don't contain original lithography. It is very confusing and not speaking french didn't help!, but feel free to take a look yourselves and find something nice.
www.maeght.com/editions/selection.asp?id=8
I recently just made another purchase for another Calder issue. I got the second to last one of this issue. Not bad for a couple more original lithographs and color lithographs from an original printing.
Lastly, be sure to check out the posters section. While at it I've picked up a couple original lithographs posters of Calder. Stock numbers are low on many of the Calders. I got the last one for one poster. They also have some other great artists! I stuck with mostly Calders, but were tempted by a couple others. Will post some images when they arrive.

Varying prices and some of the descriptions note a "personal autograph". Not sure if that means the poster is signed?
Not my cup of tea but figured I'd share as she's pretty well know especially her Dinner Party work.

Helen Frankenthaler: Reflections Prospectus
www.mcgilvery.com/pages/books/09786/helen-frankenthaler-kenneth-e-tyler/helen-frankenthaler-reflections-a-series-of-twelve-color-lithographs
Some info regarding these below: "Tyler publications were issued as prospectuses for their limited-edition original prints. I do not believe any were sold commercially. Since they were intended for their own mailing list, the printing would have been limited to that number plus some excess for future inquiries. It is that overstock that I acquired in 2004, when Ken and his wife retired and closed the workshop in Mt. Kisco. The plates in this publication are in exceptionally high-resolution color offset lithograph that doubtless was printed in-house. The paper is a very smooth 100-lb. or higher weight. It is possibly heavily calendered, or it is coated with a very matte surface. I cannot tell for certain without damaging one of the plates."

Joan Miro Lithograph
FC Barcelona 1974. Special Edition Poster
Lithograph in colors on guarro paper
Limited Edition of 1500 (all numbered with the FC’s stamp, year of edition and plate signed)
Available for $170ish
Link: www.galeriajoangaspar.com/eshop/en/miro-joan/82-miro-joan-fc-barcelona-1974-special-edition.html
Some background I’ve been able to find on these prints:
Image from original painting by Miro in 1974. Image was then imprinted in three different versions. -One edition of 50 - without lettering and hand signed and numbered by Miro on Arches paper.
-One edition of 1500 (link above) - with lettering - numbered with marks as noted above on guarro paper
-One edition of 50,000 (more on this below) - with lettering - unnumbered on poster paper
Link to some background:
www.joanmiro.co.uk/barcelona/
Note:
There also appears to be later editions from a printing in 2001 in which prints are numbered out of edition 1000 and without lettering - I’ve seen sales for these in the $200-400 range on secondary sites.
There also appears to be another edition from a printing in 2007 in which the prints are numbered out of edition of 999 and without lettering - (size may also be different) - I’ve seen sales for these in $100-300 range.
Honestly, I did not concern myself with researching these other editions of 999 or 1000 that much...
I have not been able to find much pertaining to the edition /50 and the edition /1500 except for this sale:
www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/joan-miro-1893-1983-futbol-club-barcelona-5407575-details.aspx
Confirmed sale for $900+ from Christies auction in 2011. Note this is from the edition of 1500, but the sheet trimmed at the lower margin, lacking the text, some creases, a few minor scratches at the lower right of the subject, unexamined out of the frame
And for some images of the poster that I received today! Condition isn’t perfect - small creases and foxing and rough edges but I wasn’t expecting a pristine post thats 44 years old.
As mentioned above (the unnumbered version):
Joan Miro Offset Lithograph
FC Barcelona 1974. Poster Edition
Offset Lithograph on Poster Paper
Edition of 50,000
Available for $60ish
Link: www.galeriajoangaspar.com/eshop/en/miro-joan/83-miro-joan-fc-barcelona-1974.html
Huge edition, but doesn’t seem that prevalent or that common as the edition size would suggest. I'd assume a large amount of these haven’t lasted through the years.

My Art Finds Thread, by ca on Aug 21, 2019 15:46:15 GMT 1, I'm confused, do we now have to create our own personal threads to showcase finds or can we have one here as long as it's not new releases?

My understanding was that was for new releases and mainly for artists in the urban/street world that are heavily traffic'd here. These are finds from works or things mostly from decades ago. I don't think they each deserve their own thread as many wouldn't apply to artists listed on this site. Maybe I'm wrong and I guess I'll hear about it if I am... :-) That thread was the same... old releases, hidden on websites for years and missed.
Only it got misused for new drops a few times recently.

Unless you’re using the forum to buy and sell, it’s hard to remain motivated to contribute when it’s becoming increasingly clear that the opinions / concerns / suggestions of the members are of little interest to the owner.
Of course I can’t speak for anyone else, but that’s how I feel about it anyway.

Right and I think that was the problem. It morphed yo what is being released currently.

My Art Finds Thread, by Rouen Cathedral on Aug 21, 2019 20:15:03 GMT 1, Found Art #11:
Helen Frankenthaler Hand Pulled Serigraph Poster
Beginnings, Lincoln Center Poster
41? Color silkscreen print
Edition of 500?
Signed in screen
36”x 44”
Available for $100.
www.kingandmcgaw.com/prints/helen-frankenthaler/beginnings-1994-132385?ref=history#132385::media:0
A little background I’ve found:
Frankenthaler did a series of images with Lincoln Center List Poster and Print Program (Printed by Brand X editions) in which she released an editioned signed and numbered print (sans lettering) and then they created a poster version (with lettering) from the same screens, in an edition of about 500. You can find some of the other posters randomly (ebay, 1st dibs, chairish, etc. etc.) in varying pricing and limited availability. Personally, some of the images are nicer than others.
To my knowledge King and McGraw has about 9 more of this poster in their stock.
For $100 I don’t know how this could be beat. If these are indeed from original screens and hand pulled silkscreen and when comparing to the signed/numbered editions that sell for $8-20K I think this is a pretty good deal.

This poster is BEAUTIFUL. The colors are amazing and the quality is impressive. Very thick poster paper. Oh and by the way its HUGE! Below are some images.

High quality posters of some of the biggest artists out there. Some signed available (although not sure on pricing of these). Printed in the 1000-1500 edition size range. Although I would venture less then that for my #1 below due to printing style.
But the two I find the best:
1. Robert Indiana 1978 Original Silkscreen - $50 The ink has a distinct feel and age to it (mine had some slight scuffing). But the colors on these are amazing.
2. Jasper Johns 1985 original plate signed offset lithograph - $50 Haven't received this one yet, but from the images it looks quite nice and I could imagine framing by hiding the text and it would present quite nicely.
