Harland Miller • High on Hope Print, by met on Sept 12, 2019 21:13:35 GMT 1, And what about the god damn Amazon Rainforest burning.... prints, paper, prints, trees, prints, and more damn prints and trees... I hear they will release another charity print set next week for the Amazon Rainforest since they used so much paper for this set. The new set will also use paper... I'm starting to think Harland Miller's whole career is based off of Manifold prints. I don't hear good things about his OGs and now this, which has nothing to do with White Cube or Manifold. Side note: I love artist like Shepard and others who talk about saving the planet while making a killing off of prints.... prints have to be the absolute worst thing for this earth. I’m certain that prints are not worst thing for the earth, environmentally speaking.
If writing down things that are detrimental to our planet, I'd place ignorance high on the list. Along with hubris — including hubris resulting from ignorance of one's own ignorance, i.e. lack of self-awareness.
While we're at it, let's also add irresponsibility. This would cover the making of simplistic public assertions without bothering to carry out basic research beforehand.
__________
It's worth bearing in mind that a significant proportion of fine-art paper isn't actually paper, but made with cotton.
And even when fine-art paper is made with or includes wood pulp, the requirements of consistency, resilience and longevity mean that quality pulp is needed. As already mentioned by Dive Jedi, this will come from managed, sustainable forests (e.g. in Scandinavia). Random trees from tropical rainforests are not suited for such a purpose.
[Members who are genuinely concerned about the Amazon should focus instead on where our cheap hamburgers come from. Or where the soy used for animal feed is grown, to produce those cheap burgers.]
In case anyone wishes to read about sustainability of paper more generally, among the multiple sources available, here are two:
www.twosides.info/sustainable-products/
www.paperbecause.com/paper-is-sustainable/paper-truth-or-fiction
__________
On the subject of deforestation, the three-minute BBC video in the link below is worth a watch. I found it to be very accessible and informative.

The price went up To €8700 fo a while. Now back to €8700. Clearly not related to tiered pricing, as the normal price jumps are much higher

I know some of this goes to charity but I agree it’s high. Especially after the last Manifolds prints. They were not much more than this at the initial release.

It's a tricky one as it's not often you see a Harland Miller print available from source. It is an easy size to frame and hang, it's a family friendly message, it is a Penguin, colours are great.....might be one that people regret not buying....

It's a shame the edges aren't as messy/loose as the other penguin titles
Harland Miller bubble bursting?

I agree - I like this; price seems about right and I'm sure these will sell out in due course. People looking around for a classic HM print will realise that these represent about the best value available; is there a cheaper Penguin anywhere else?

I’m not buying, why would I buy at a price others only had to pay half of.
You can buy his prints on secondary for less.

Not sure if there's been a massive price rise over the last few months, but I think there's a fair few of his prints you can get for £9-12k. Maybe not the classic Penguin covers, but good ones, and bigger than this.

I just thought that as a penguin print you'll do well to find one secondary that size (albeit not the large ones) for £12k
Bet HM and his team aren't happy though!
