Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by guest2 on Jun 20, 2008 21:58:34 GMT 1, Nice print Seth! What is a "heart" proof, HC and BAT??? Heart Print is given away as a gift, quite often to someone that has helped with putting on a show, or to someone that will use it to raise money for charity. Not sure on the other two? Seth?
HC = Hors d'Commerce

BAT stands for 'bon ร tirer', meaning good for sale, and is the master image against which every print should be compared for quality.
And BDP stands for 'Back Door Print' meaning sold out the rear door as opposed to the front door.

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by guest2 on Jun 20, 2008 22:15:24 GMT 1, Hors de Commerce.
1) These prints in addition to the regular edition but are the same as the edition and are used as gifts or payments to those involved in the production of the edition. They are marked "HC" and are usually numbered but not always.
2) French meaning "outside of sale" and pronounced "Or de com-airce". A designation for prints not in the numbered series pulled for the use of the publisher, normally limited to 5 or 6.
3) Also known as HC prints. Prints not equal in quality to the edition that may have minor flaws. These usually aren't signed and are canceled in some way, such as a hole in a corner or a stamp indicating they are not for sale. These prints are used by sales people to show to potential clients.
4) An impression pulled outside the edition for the personal use of the master printer and the printer-collaborator, if any, or the publisher (the group or individual funding the project).
You decide.

Good knowledge Little Bird. It's nice to learn something on here.

Correct on all accounts! Had no clue last week but when you work with a master printer they explain all these things! I really like having all these numbers set in stone and on the COAs etc so that everyone knows exactly what is out there, the transparency is very important to me after a few difficult print experiences...

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by Carmichael Gallery on Jun 23, 2008 23:18:00 GMT 1, We are super excited to introduce the work of Jim Darling. He has been at it for years but this new style of his recently caught our eye. It's hard to get across in the pictures but as with the work of Know Hope these pieces are 3d in nature, but instead of layers of cardboard he is using wood.
"I'll take the pearls" Oil and mixed media on carved and layered wood 10"x 8" 2008 $800.00
"Window" Oil and mixed media on carved and layered wood 7.75" x 8" 2008 $800.00

Nice style, really like the top one. Hmm, a bit too pricey for me though, I think, for the small size. Really cool though.

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by Carmichael Gallery on Jul 1, 2008 16:51:35 GMT 1, Anyone who is on our mailing list is about to get this email. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know...
My Dear Friends, Family, Members of the Press and Everyone else in my address book,
Sorry for the mass email. Some of you have heard what is going on with Elisa (my wife) in Australia; her father was dying and she left the States in the middle of the immigration process to be by his side (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/father-dies-after-senseless-attack/2008/05/26/1211653939231.html), unfortunately due to the bureaucracy of our immigration system she is now stuck out of the country with no visa to return. Her father has passed away, but she could be stuck outside the US for six months to one year while we wait for all the different forms to be processed. I am reaching out one more time and sending even more emails with the hope that someone still might be able to help. All the folks we have been able to talk to have said it will take months to get her back into the US, even though we are married and her I-130 petition for a visa to be assigned has been approved (a big breakthrough we thought, but it turns out it is just the beginning of the process). We have talked to people at the consulate in Sydney, I've talked to my congressman's office, a friend of a friend wrote a letter to the US ambassador to Australia, we have talked to many different immigration attorneys, no one seems to be able to help. We are stuck in the system and right now I just want to get her home so that we can be together in this trying time and finish the immigration process here in the states. The emotional challenges of the whole situation are just overwhelming us.
Please forward this to anyone you know that might be able to help!
The complete back story is here:
To whom it may concern, My name is Seth Carmichael, I am a US citizen born in Washington DC. My wife, Elisa Victoria Gilsenan, is a British Citizen and permanent resident of Australia where her family has lived for the past ten years. She was going to college in the US and was in the United States on a student visa when we got married on August 28th of last year in Los Angeles where we have been living since she started school in 2005. This past February her father Brian Gilsenan was assaulted in Sydney while on his way home from an after work function (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/father-dies-after-senseless-attack/2008/05/26/1211653939231.html), he was seriously injured and spent the last few months in the hospital. He passed away on Saturday May 24th, 2008. Elisa and I went to see him immediately after the incident, when we retuned to the US she decided not to continue with school at this time which canceled her student visa so we started the immigration process by filing our I-130 petition. In May, Brian's health took a serious turn for the worse and Elisa needed to return to Sydney to be by his side. We called the US dept of homeland security and tried to request an exception to allow her to leave the States but they told us that all they could do is expedite her I-130. Obviously she still had to return to Australia and she did so. As I said Brian passed away on Saturday May 24th. I went to Australia Sunday the 25th to help settle his affairs and help Elisa with her Visa situation but we had no luck reaching the consulate in Sydney or anyone else that could help us with her Visa. I came back to the states and have been trying to get her back since June 1st, we have had several conversations with various consulate officials and many immigration lawyers but there seems to be no process for helping with this kind of a situation. I am hoping we can get Elisa back into the states as fast as possible so we can continue the immigration process that we have started here and put this horrible tragedy behind us. It seems so simple a request. If you have any ideas that might be helpful please contact me. Thank you so much. Sincerely,
Seth Carmichael

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by Carmichael Gallery on Jul 30, 2008 9:18:30 GMT 1, Carmichael Gallery Presents
move A head A solo exhibition by Amandalynn
Opening Reception: Saturday, August 2, 8PM - Midnight
1257 N. Labrea Ave. West Hollywood, CA 90038
Exhibition Dates: August 2 - 24, 2008
As a member of infamous West Coast graffiti crew, the Seventh Letter, Amandalynn is renowned for her murals of gorgeous, green-toned females, who lounge seductively on walls and doorways around San Francisco.
Many heads will move when California-based Amandalynn showcases her artwork in move A head at Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, transforming the space into a Victorian-inspired hall of beautiful headless portraits and sculpted and cast resin cameos, vases and jewelry. The inventive artist will also create a site-specific installation, collaborating with Los Angeles floral designer Renee Fontana to style an organic, colorful, and tactile juxtaposition of her artwork. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 2nd, 2008, from 8pm โ Midnight, with Amandalynn and Renee Fontana in attendance.
With artwork flavored with Amandalynnโs elegant, vivacious style and the distinctive rhythm of the street framed with Renee Fontanaโs exotic floral extensions, these young women emphasize the symbiotic relationship between art, design, and nature. Having collaborated in the past, the two women take the expected gallery setting and fashion it into an all-new fanciful space with their unique and practiced artistic senses. The green of Amandalynnโs most recognized artwork intertwines with Fontanaโs leafy designs resulting in a โfreshโ presentation that is simply stunning.

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by Carmichael Gallery on Aug 8, 2008 21:27:58 GMT 1, Carmichael Gallery Presents AUGUST GROUP EXHIBITION
You've Been Wasting Your Time Featuring New Works by Flip (Brazil), Hush (UK), Other (Canada) Exhibition Dates: August 16 โ September 14, 2008 Opening Reception: August 16th, 2008, 8PM โ Midnight
Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art is proud to present Youโve Been Wasting Your Time, a group show featuring Flip, Hush, and Other, three emerging young street artists from Brazil, the UK, and Canada, respectively. Employing expansive color palettes and innovative techniques, the trio collides to contribute an eclectic range of paintings, drawings, screen prints, works on wood, and mixed media collages inspired by their diverse cultural backgrounds. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2008, from 8pm โ Midnight. The exhibition will be open for viewing through Sunday, September 14th, 2008.
The depth and command of the artwork of Flip, Hush, and Other both challenges and seduces the viewer. Fascinated by the portrayal of the female form in art, Hush builds up and tears down layers of paint and images as he works, โletting the canvas and marks take their own path.โ His stylistic fusion of the East and West is enriched by his interpretation of the inherent power play in graffiti and street art. Flip, too, draws inspiration from Asia in his new body of work. Observing the relationship between human beings and nature, he plants a tranquility of communion beneath his passionate explosion of Japanese brushstrokes. A similar dichotomy prevails in the work of Other, who both provokes and calms in pieces that were composed within rattling train carriages and buzzing coffee shops. The ideas and characters he coaxes out of hiding โcome from blotches of paint and wet drips on paperโฆsort of like ink blots in psychology.โ
About The Artists FLIP - BRAZIL
Felipe โFlipโ Yung is hailed by many as one of the most talented Brazilian artists of his generation, having painted and exhibited his work throughout the streets and galleries of Brazil, Europe, and the US for over a decade. Away from the wall and canvas, he has also lent his distinctive style to the world of designer plush and vinyl toys.
HUSH - UK
The work of Hush has been described as a sensory assault of shape, color, and character. With his singular blend of anime, pop-infused imagery, graffiti, and graphic design, the Englishman who worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Hong Kong for a number of years attacks contemporary culture and established societal norms with an overwhelming proficiency and superb dry wit.
OTHER - CANADA
Even though the artist himself does not always accompany it, the artwork of Canadian painter Other travels by train through North America at all hours of the day. When not at work in his studio or exploring the world, the restless Other, who possesses โa nasty habit of scribbling on things that arenโt mineโ, wanders into deserted train yards where he renders highly-skilled etchings of mournful men and beautiful creatures onto the sides of freight trains, then stands back as his canvas awakens and disappears into the darkness.

The ideas and characters he coaxes out of hiding โcome from blotches of paint and wet drips on paperโฆsort of like ink blots in psychology.โ About The Artists FLIP - BRAZIL Felipe โFlipโ Yung is hailed by many as one of the most talented Brazilian artists of his generation, having painted and exhibited his work throughout the streets and galleries of Brazil, Europe, and the US for over a decade. Away from the wall and canvas, he has also lent his distinctive style to the world of designer plush and vinyl toys. HUSH - UK The work of Hush has been described as a sensory assault of shape, color, and character. With his singular blend of anime, pop-infused imagery, graffiti, and graphic design, the Englishman who worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Hong Kong for a number of years attacks contemporary culture and established societal norms with an overwhelming proficiency and superb dry wit. OTHER - CANADA Even though the artist himself does not always accompany it, the artwork of Canadian painter Other travels by train through North America at all hours of the day.

Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art, by Carmichael Gallery on Aug 29, 2008 22:01:59 GMT 1, I wanted to let everyone know that after three and a half months of government imposed exile my wife Elisa returned to the US yesterday. Since they told us it would take six months to a year at first we have to be very happy, but it has been a tough time nonetheless. We wanted to thank all of you for the kindness and support you have shown and understanding when I have been less responsive than I usually am!
Best,
Seth
